DONALD, YOU’RE FIRED!

The largest Spanish-language broadcaster has decided to not air Donald Trump’s annual Miss USA pageant next month due to the presidential candidate’s recent comments on immigration.

“Today the entertainment division of #Univision Communications Inc. announced that it is ending the Company’s business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald J. Trump, based on his recent, insulting remarks about #Mexican #immigrants.

At Univision we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country.

We will not be airing the #MissUSApageant on July 12 or working on any other projects tied to the Trump #Organization.”

Thoughts for today, #166 …. “Simply Idiotic”!!

Does this sound familiar to you?

Seems to me that these are some of the talking points that have been used to rebuke opinions that differ from some of the members of the “other side of the isle”.

The President doesn’t know the Constitution

Scientists don’t know science

The Pope doesn’t know Christianity

Women don’t know what is best for women

It doesn’t matter where these thoughts come from. Just to even utter them to the general public is enough to know how much brain mass is between the ears of the person who dare to utter them.

Then the excuse is that “I was misunderstood, my words where taken out of context, that wasn’t what I meant”.

I am not making this up. I’ve heard it over the airwaves, I’ve seen it in the blogosphere. I wonder … do they really mean these thoughts? Are they training to bring the spotlight on them?

In my humble opinion, if that’s their objective, it’s failing miserably.

Something to think about … “The Office of the POTUS”!!

RESPECT FOR THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

“The office of the President, no matter who sits in the oval office, deserves our respect. If we so belittle the office through excessive partisanship we lessen the authority that the office deserves.

The President of the United States is our leader, our chief executive, the person who the rest of the world looks to as representing the United States.

How far do we take partisanship before it becomes demeaning to the office? Is our political system so warped that what is best for the country becomes less important than partisan gain? The phrase the loyal opposition, is important to consider, in that it implies that a person from the opposition party is still loyal to their oath and their nation while still opposing when it is appropriate what the opposition party or in this case the President of the United States has done.

Is anything fair game? Is it okay to lie about them? Is it okay to personally attack the wife of the President or his or her children, or even the dog?

What are the limitations?”

My thoughts on this topic are very personal to me and I understand that all are entitled to their own. I don’t mean for this post to be a political one. 

I was always taught that we needed to “respect the office” of the President of the United States. 

Without bringing politics and different ideologies into this, can anyone really say that this office has been respected since 2008 as is had always been before?

I wonder ….

I used the video presented below in another post today. However, as I listened and watched, I consider this to be such a powerful video that I believe it deserves a post of its own. If the event that any reader or visitor misses the previous post, this post will lead them to this educational and historical video about my country: Puerto Rico.

Puerto Rico, officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (Spanish: Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico, literally the Free Associated State of Puerto Rico), is a United States territory located in the northeastern Caribbean, east of the Dominican Republic, and west of both the United States Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands.

Puerto Rico is an archipelago that includes the main island of Puerto Rico and a number of smaller islands, the largest of which are Vieques, Culebra, and Mona. The main island of Puerto Rico is, by land area, the smallest of the Greater Antilles.

With around 3.5 million people, it ranks third in population among that group of four islands, which include Cuba, Hispaniola and Jamaica. The capital and largest city is San Juan. Due to its location, Puerto Rico has a tropical climate with warm weather year-round and does not observe daylight saving time. Its official languages are Spanish, which is prevalent, and English.

In 1904, President Theodore Roosevelt declared that the United States had to intervene in the internal affairs of Latin American. In his own words: “if any South American country misbehaves it should be spanked.”All US presidents that succeeded him have, in lesser or greater measure, continued to exercise their perceived right over a region often known as “America’s Backyard”.

After more than 400 years of Spanish colonial domination, in 1897 Puerto Rico was given the right to govern over its affairs. Only five months later, Spain and the US went to war over the last Spanish colonies in the region. American Forces occupied Puerto Rico.
The Treaty of Paris clearly established that all Puerto Rican affairs were to be decided by the United States Congress.

President Theodore Roosevelt recommended that Puerto Ricans become U.S. citizens.
Despite the overwhelming opposition from the Puerto Rican legislators, in March 1917 the US Congress decided that all Puerto Ricans were now US citizens; but only to be ruled and not be given the rights. Many Puerto Ricans were forced to fight in the America’s wars and many died.

Up to this day not much has changed, as that Treaty of Paris is still valid.
