AWAY FOR A FEW DAYS

I was away from active blogging for a bit.

I wasn’t away from the world.

Maybe I should’ve been.

But, if I was, I would’ve missed the “donald’s” ascent, the #CecilTheLion outrage, the Empire State Building’s #RacingExtinction, the Fox News debate debacle, the Planned Parenthood controversy, the continued bombing in Yemen, the death of a toddler in Palestine .. and so much more.

Sometimes I wonder if it would’ve have been better for me.

Yet, I can’t disconnect. I need to know.

I need to be aware.

I need to be informed .. if only to share in this humble spot. Could any of us totally disconnect?

I wonder …. Anyhoo, I’m back!

U.S. Americans uphold the ideal that everyone “is created equal” and has the same rights. This includes women as well as men of all ethnic and cultural groups living in the U.S. There are even laws that protect this “right to equality” in its various forms.

The general lack of deference to people in authority is one example of equality. Titles, such as “sir” and “madam” are seldom used. Managers, directors, presidents and even university instructors are often addressed by their first or given name.

Some people are gay. Get over it!

The slogan was originally launched in November 2007 by Dr Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman as part of Stonewall’s Education for All campaign to tackle homophobic bullying in schools.

After the launch, 600 billboard panels, kindly donated by Titan Outdoor Advertising Ltd, depicted this legend in giant, tabloid-style capital letters, on a bright red background at sights in England, Scotland and Wales. In September 2009 the simple, striking poster campaign appeared on 20 major railway stations advertising screens and on 3,500 interior bus panels in November 2009 for Anti-Bullying week.

POEM

Close your eyes and spread your wings.
Make a wish and dream good dreams.
Don’t ever say, you’ll never tell.
Cause life is short and very frail.
Just be still and take a look.

Before you know it, you’ll be hooked.
Then once in a blink of an eye
you’ll soon realize it was all a lie.
Up you look and there they’re gone.

Why two days feel so long?
What was once there has disappeared.
Now, love is the one thing to fear.
Why say go when it was no?
You open your eyes only to find,
what lied there was your sign.

So close your eyes and spread your wings.
Make a good wish and LIVE your dreams!

No future is set in stone, pages are blank make the story how you want it to be don’t listen to what other people may say.

It’s your life live it the way you want. Don’t be scared or worried about the future focus on now and here what’s going on.

Worry about the present and what you have now because you never know when one day it will all disappear.

The world we live in is changing …. in some parts of the world. In others, it seems to be going back in time. 

Almost 11% of Americans acknowledge some same-sex attraction — and about 19 million Americans have participated in same-sex sexual encounters. There are LGBT individuals in the military, raising families, and getting married. Over the years, churches have grown more accepting of same-sex couples. Why not celebrate them?

I find this so petty and ironic …. I’m glad it’s done …. at least on paper.

“Don’t ask, don’t tell” (DADT) was the official United States policy on service by gays and lesbians in the military instituted by the Clinton Administration in February 28, 1994, when Department of Defense Directive 1304.26 issued on December 21, 1993, took effect, lasting until September 20, 2011.

The policy prohibited military personnel from discriminating against or harassing closeted homosexual or bisexual service members or applicants, while barring openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual persons from military service. This relaxation of legal restrictions on service by gays and lesbians in the armed forces was mandated by United States federal law Pub.L. 103–160 (10 U.S.C. § 654), which was signed November 30, 1993.

The policy prohibited people who “demonstrate a propensity or intent to engage in homosexual acts” from serving in the armed forces of the United States, because their presence “would create an unacceptable risk to the high standards of morale, good order and discipline, and unit cohesion that are the essence of military capability”.
