I’d been trying for lighthearted images to go along the Christmas spirit and the holidays.

However, due to the most recent development from the Republican front-runner for the 2016 Presidency, I feel the need to say a few short words:

Earlier today, (December 7, 2015), the candidate currently leading in the polls for the Republican presidential nomination called for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States.” That was, of course, Donald Trump. Clint Eastwood talked to invisible Obama

Back in 2012, the famous actor did something close to a standup routine at the RNC, asking questions of an imaginary President Obama in a chair next to the podium.

After grilling invisible Obama on jobs, Afghanistan, and more, Eastwood responded to the (rather rude) president: “I’m not gonna shut up.

It’s my turn.”

And later, pretending that Obama had asked him to relay an unpleasant message to Romney, Eastwood said:

“I’m not going to tell him to do that, he can’t do that to himself, you’re absolutely crazy.”

He rambled from topic to topic, knocking Obama along the way for flying around in a big plane and running negative ads. He called Joe Biden “the intellect of the Democratic Party. Kind of a grin with a body behind it.”

Who Will Be the Next Speaker?

Everyone thought it would be Kevin McCarthy

But the four-term congressman and second-ranking Republican in the House surprised everyone on Thursday by dropping out of the race to succeed John Boehner. The House Freedom Caucus, a group of the chamber’s conservative hard-liners, announced Wednesday it would support Representative Daniel Webster of Florida for speaker, casting doubt on whether McCarthy could get the 218 floor votes he would have needed to be elected later this month.

McCarthy, the immediate favorite for speaker, reportedly told members that he’s “not the right person” for the job.

So, who is?

In the meantime, Clint will have to repeat his action of talking to an empty chair.

Thomas E. Mann

Thomas E. Mann (born September 10, 1944) is the W. Averell Harriman Chair and a senior fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution. He primarily studies and speaks on elections in the United States, campaign finance reform, Senate and filibuster reform, Congress, redistricting, and political polarization.

He was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and attended the University of Florida, where in 1966 he received a B.A. in political science, then went on to get an M.A. (1968) and Ph.D. (1977) at the University of Michigan. He first went to Washington D.C. in 1969, where he worked as a Congressional Fellow in the offices of Senator Philip A. Hart and Representative James G. O’Hara, both Democrats.

Between 1987 and 1999, he was Director of Governance Studies at Brookings. Before that, Mann was executive director of the American Political Science Association.

Mann is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. He is a recipient of the American Political Science Association’s Frank J. Goodnow and Charles E. Merriam Awards.

2012 book of political analysis by Thomas E. Mann of the Brookings Institution and Norman J. Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute, published by Basic Books. The authors state that the current U.S. Congress has reached a state of basic gridlock due to both major American political parties moving to solidly left-wing and right-wing sides, leaving the center, and becoming “vehemently adversarial”. They also state that, with the advent of the Tea Party movement and other activist groups calling for ideological purity, that the U.S. Republican Party has particularly moved to a fringe position “unpersuaded by the conventional understanding of facts”.

I remember the first time someone explained to me what the word gay meant.
We were in middle school
Playing on the swing set behind Stoy Elementary
“He’s so gay,” she said
Bitter disgust poured out of her mouth with every syllable
I could not think as to why being happy could be such a horrible thing
And so I asked
My exact words being
“What’s so wrong with being happy?”
Now both my friends looked at me weird
“Don’t you know what gay means?”
“Doesn’t it mean to be happy?”
“You’re such a little kid, gay does not mean happy.

Gay is a boy who likes another boy”
I stood there wondering why it mattered so much that a boy liked another boy;
why it was such a distasteful thing.
And why it meant gay couldn’t still mean happy.

Mexican Piñata Maker Takes Revenge on Donald Trump

Dalton Javier Avalos Ramirez has given people a way to beat up on Donald Trump, and receive candy as a reward.

Ramirez, a craftsman from the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, told The Independent that after hearing Trump announce his candidacy for presidency — during which he alleged that Mexican immigrants were rapists bringing drugs and crime across the border — he was inspired to create a Donald Trump piñata.

He completed the task in a single day.

Ramirez told The Independent he’s received more than 10 orders since Friday. According to Fox News Latino, the piñatas are priced at 500 pesos apiece, or roughly $33.

“Today the entertainment division of #Univision Communications Inc. announced that it is ending the Company’s business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald J. Trump, based on his recent, insulting remarks about #Mexican #immigrants.

TERM LIMITS NEEDED FOR CONGRESS

“I’d like to address our state of affairs about our U.S. congressmen and the multitude of people running for our president’s job in our next election in the USA.

None of them has the backbone to address term limits for all congressmen. It was the best thing we ever did when we made a two-term limit for the president of the United States.

The only thing the congressmen think about, who have been in over two terms, is what do I need to do to be sure I have a secure retirement and a medical plan for the rest of my life for doing nothing.

If we kicked out all the congressmen that have exceeded two terms, the new blood that would take their place could not possibly be any worse than what we have now.

I think anyone running for president who would put two-term limits on his agenda and mean it would be our next president of the United States.”
