To start the day …. ” Dragon Age: Inquisition”!!

~~November 22, 2014~~

I’m not a gamer, nor do I follow any of them. I must confess that I have no clue about the games that are mentioned below. I do follow Lindsey Stirling … I believe she has great talent, chemistry and artistic presence.

I found this video this morning. It’s perfect for a gray, cool rainy Saturday morning when you stay home and “play games”.

If you’ve ever wanted to watch an incredibly-talented violinist destroy a High Dragon with just the power of her music, then you should probably watch Lindsey Stirling magic her away through the main theme from Dragon Age: Inquisition.

From Malukah to Taylor Davis, gamers are some of the most musical fans in geek culture.

Lindsey Stirling is one of the most popular of these musicians, using her violin skills to take music from games like Halo and Assassin’s Creed III to stunning new levels through the way she plays and the way she produces her YouTube videos.

There’s no better example of this than her latest cover of the main theme from BioWare’s new Dragon Age: Inquisition. Not only does she give a great performance, but with the help of digital studio Everdream she’s even able to take on a dragon with her violin. Stirling posted the video online Tuesday, coinciding with Inquisition’s release, and it’s already been viewed more than a million times.

Perhaps it should come as no surprise that video game music inspires musicians in this way. The produces of many iconic game soundtracks wanted to engross gamers and get them emotionally involved with the story. Dragon Age’s music is no exception. Still, it’s always amazing to see fans use their talents to give audio tracks their own unique spin.

The Hunger Games …. “Mockingjay Part 1”!!

~~November 21, 2014~~

The day arrived!!

The movie started yesterday evening. They had a marathon of the previous movies and the premiere of the new one. I missed that. But nobody could keep me away today. I went to the 11 AM showing.

But I’m not partial. I’m an ardent fan of this trilogy … even more sore after reading the books. I think that the acting, imagery, costumes, production and action is excellent. But then again, I’m not partial. I found this third installment to be a bit “dark” but it went along with the plot and the story line.

The Hunger Games is a 2008 science fiction novel by the American writer Suzanne Collins. It is written in the voice of 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives in the post-apocalyptic nation of Panem in North America.

The Capitol, a highly advanced metropolis, exercises political control over the rest of the nation. The Hunger Games are an annual event in which one boy and one girl aged 12–18 from each of the twelve districts surrounding the Capitol are selected by lottery to compete in a televised battle to the death.

The Hunger Games takes place in a nation known as Panem, established in North America after the destruction of the continent’s civilization by an unknown apocalyptic event. The nation consists of the wealthy Capitol and twelve surrounding, poorer districts united under the Capitol’s control. District 12, where the book begins, is located in the coal-rich region that was formerly known as Appalachia.

As punishment for a past rebellion against the Capitol, in which a 13th district was destroyed, one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 from each district are selected by an annual lottery to participate in the Hunger Games, an event in which the participants (or “tributes”) must fight to the death in an outdoor arena controlled by the Capitol, until only one individual remains.

The story is narrated by 16-year-old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th annual Hunger Games in place of her younger sister, Primrose. The male tribute chosen from District 12 is Peeta Mellark, a former schoolmate of Katniss who once gave her bread from his family’s bakery when her family was starving.

This time around, Katniss is the focus of a mass rebellion against the Capitol in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 and things are about to get crazy. We’ve seen a series of teaser trailers that show President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in mid-propaganda speech when District 13 abruptly interrupts with a threat that the Mockingjay is back!

Everyone is rallying around our heroine to lead the rebellion. Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is convinced everyone will follow Katniss, since she is the symbol of the Mockingjay, but District 13′s President Coin (Julianne Moore) isn’t so sure.

“No else can do this but her,” Plutarch declares. He’s right.

President Snow threatens that any symbols of the Mockingjay is forbidden and his men and the rebel forces go head-to-head in deadly, action-packed-battles.

NAPCAN …. Children see, children do!!

Children See, Children Do

This Video Will Make You Rethink How You Act Around Others

With the way most of us live our lives these days — giving zero f*cks — we often forget that there are young ones around watching.

I’m not saying that everyone should be a perfect role model in life, but if you’re responsible for a child, then you should act like an adult and strive to set a good example.

While our kids will likely end up just like us, there’s no reason you should be smoking, drinking or fighting in front of them.

This quick, 60 second PSA makes all of us think about our immoral behavior and puts into perspective what we’re really doing. Turn down for what? Turn down for the children.

NAPCAN’s latest campaign for a Child Friendly Australia

NAPCAN, Australia’s National Association for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, launched a thought-provoking television/cinema campaign this year with “Children See, Children Do”. The 90 second spot features children following adults, mimicking their habits. At first the pattern appears to be innocuous, talking on a mobile phone while walking through a city square, making a call on a public telephone, waiting behind the yellow line in a railway station. The behavior becomes more insidious with a girl copying a woman’s smoking habits on an escalator. A boy follows as a grown man carelessly knocks a struggling mother’s bag off her shoulder. We see examples of litter, drunken behaviour, road rage, racism and cruelty to animals. A woman yells at her baby, accompanied by her older daughter. A man is joined by his son as he verbally and physically abuses his wife.
