‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’

IT BRINGS JOY TO MY HEART

To say that I’m an ardent fan of Mamma Mia isn’t enough.

First of all I love ABBA.

They were one of the musical groups of my time.

I ‘grew up’ listening to their music.

Time went by and the first movie came along. I couldn’t have enough of it. I’ve lost count of how many times I went to the theater to watch it. I even went to the ‘sing-a-long’ version.

Then the DVD came out and, of course, I ordered it.

Meryl Streep impressed me. So did the other members of the cast.

Well, of course I saw the prequel/sequel.

I loved it!!

Even learned about ABBA songs that I hadn’t heard. 

The story line, acting, the music, the photography, the colors … all of it, joyful, fun, heartwarming!!

“World of Dance” judge Jennifer Lopez and special guest Savion Glover mentored the Junior Team Division contestants during the Cut, and Lopez was a little worried that The Fabulous Sisters from Fukushima, Japan, didn’t have an entirely cohesive routine prepared. But she changed her tune when she saw their complete performance.

They were decked out in regal gold costumes and ruled ferociously from a throne. Imagine if Cersei Lannister from “Game of Thrones” blew up the Sept of Baelor with just the power of urban dance.

I thought it was really nice that Jennifer let you borrow her throne. Again, the way you dance the choreography is so amazing. The intensity, and then right when I thought, ‘Oh, this is a great routine,’ you all took a shot of espresso and just went into hyper mode. It was like ‘Whoa!’ The way you used your costume at the end: very simple, but very, very effective. It was one of those ‘ooh’ moments. It was so good.”

Jaxon Willard, a 16-year-old from American Fork, passed the first Qualifiers round of NBC’s “World of Dance” Season 2 with flying colors, completed the Duels and aced the Cut round of the competition.

“I’ve always been teased and bullied about my skin color, and so I would always suppress all my feelings and keep them inside until I discovered dancing, and so this song to me is kind of saying that it’s OK to be vulnerable and it’s OK to be sad,” Willard told the judges.

The American Fork native explained to the judges that his inspiration for the dance he performed was his experience as an African American growing up in a predominantly white community.

Willard’s self-choreographed dance to Kygo and Labrinth’s “Fragile” for the qualifiers,  “Surprise Yourself” by Jack Garratt for the duels and  “Higher” by The Score.

Glennis Grace (born as Glenda Hulita Elisabeth Batta, 19 June 1978, Amsterdam) is a singer from the Netherlands who in 2005 won the national selection in the Netherlands for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 for the nation. Grace’s song was the ballad “My Impossible Dream“, but she did not advance to the final.

She was discovered after she won a Dutch TV talent show where she performed Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time”. In April 2011 she reached the top of the Dutch singles chart with a rendition of “Afscheid”, a 1998 hit of the band Volumia!. She appeared on the 13th season of America’s Got Talent in 2018.

Her first performance on America’s Got Talent was a cover from Whitney Houston’s “Run To You”.

Earlier in the AGT season, the glamorous singer performed “Run to You” by Whitney Houston for her audition, then followed up with “Nothing Compares 2 U“.

Grace showed her earlier performances were no flukes when she nailed the inspiration song with a touch of soul and some crowd-pleasing power-notes.

Why is Welsh gold used for royal wedding rings?
The custom of using Welsh gold for wedding rings was started by the Queen Mother in 1923.

Welsh gold has been used for royal brides ever since.

The Queen Mother’s wedding ring, the Queen’s in 1947, Princess Margaret’s in 1960, the Princess Royal’s in 1973 and that of Diana, Princess of Wales in 1981 were all made from the same nugget.

The gold came from the Clogau St David’s mine at Bontddu in North Wales.

Simon Cowell gives opera singer Daniel Emmet an impossible challenge on ‘America’s Got Talent’

Classical crossover singer Daniel Emmet thought that he was sure to sail through his audition for “America’s Got Talent.”

But as we saw on the June 19 episode of “AGT,” head judge Simon Cowell had something else in mind for this 25-year-old singer, who intended to perform an original song that was a mashup of opera and pop. He had barely begun this tune, which came across as bland and boring, when judge Simon Cowell cut him off and requested that he sing a different song.

When Emmet admitted he had not come prepared with an alternate, Cowell seemed crossed. He dispatched him from the stage and gave him just one hour to learn another song, the Il Divo hit “Passera.”

The visibly nervous neophyte returned in the appointed 60 minutes and proceeded to wow the audience, the panel and even himself with his rendition of this Italian aria.

You may be wondering why this photograph, where you can’t even see the couple’s faces, is so great.

The bird’s eye view shot gained popularity after the wedding for two reasons:

First, if you look at the photo, you may be able to notice how their bodies create the shape of a heart. Aww, could it get more romantic than that?
Second, people are also referring to it as the “Diana’s View” photograph, as some saw the picture and imagined that this might be the view Diana would have of her son’s special day.’

One of the most impressive performers is Brynn Cartelli who turned 15 while competing in the show.

The Voice has crowned Brynn Cartelli its fourteenth-season champion
Brynn, a 15-year-old from Longmeadow, MA, competed on Kelly Clarkson’s team all season long and was declared champion of Season 14 of The Voice during Tuesday night’s live finale broadcast on NBC.

Not only was Brynn the youngest person in the competition this season, but she also made history by becoming the youngest The Voice finalist ever. (Brynn was only 14-years-old at the time of her Blind Audition).

Brynn had several solid performances over this week’s two-night finale event, but the poised artist’s catchy original song “Walk My Way” – written by Julia Michaels – probably pushed her over the edge when it came to home viewer voting.

“I am so lucky … I am literally just a cheerleader. Coaching this girl is a joke,” Kelly told Brynn during Monday night’s Top 4 performance show.

“Everything you have seen this girl do was her idea … It’s insane and I’m just so proud of you, not only because you’re the youngest ever to make it this far but because of the fact you are doing what you love and you do it so well and so effortlessly. It’s so captivating and inspiring to watch.”

Kelly will have some bragging rights on the show going forward, as she won her very first season serving as a coach on The Voice.

Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason becomes breakout star after royal wedding performance

England may have a new duke and duchess in Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, but in the process, classical music also got a new star.

Sheku Kanneh-Mason, a 19-year-old cellist from Nottingham, captivated the congregation and everyone watching the royal wedding, his music filling St. George’s Chapel. As for Sheku himself, he can be as quiet as a church mouse.

“To perform at anyone’s wedding is such an honor, but a wedding of that much significance is just so exciting,” he said.

Sheku has been playing since he was 6. His parents Stuart Mason and Kadie Kanneh say it was love at first sight.

“And as soon as he got a cello, that was it. We couldn’t get him off it,” Kadie said.

He has a nearly priceless Amati cello that’s more than 400 years old and is never out of his sight. Well, almost never.

“I wouldn’t take it out at night,” he said, laughing. “No, I leave it, I leave it in my room … It’s not that extreme.”

He’s studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London on a full scholarship, along with his older siblings. In fact, every one of Sheku’s six brothers and sisters have spent their life playing classical music.
