To start the day …. “Adele’s Birthday …. she turns 28 today …. “!!

~~May 5, 2016~~

There’s no denying it.

Adele is one of my favorite singers in the world.

I became aware of her as my oldest grand-daughter kept singing “Someone Like You”.

Since then, I’ve been one of the many fans who have followed her career.

With the release of her 3rd album, 25, Adele solidified her stature in the musical world.

She’s an awesome talent, a down to earth human being, a mother and a joy.

Here’s wishing her a happy birthday and many more.

Let’s review her career and successes with Wikipedia’s help.

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, MBE, (born 5 May 1988) is an English singer and songwriter. Graduating from the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in 2006, Adele was given a recording contract by XL Recordings after a friend posted her demo on Myspace the same year.

In 2007, she received the Brit Awards “Critics’ Choice” award and won the BBC Sound of 2008 poll.

Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 to commercial and critical success. It is certified seven times platinum in the UK, and double platinum in the US. An appearance she made on Saturday Night Live in late 2008 boosted her career in the US. At the 51st Annual Grammy Awards in 2009, Adele received the awards for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Adele released her second studio album, 21, in early 2011. The album was well received critically and surpassed the success of her debut, earning the singer numerous awards in 2012, including a record-tying six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year; two Brit Awards, including British Album of the Year, and three American Music Awards. The album has been certified 16 times platinum in the UK, and is the fourth best-selling album in the UK of all time. In the US it has held the top position longer than any album since 1985, and is certified Diamond.

The album has sold 31 million copies worldwide.

The success of 21 earned Adele numerous mentions in the Guinness Book of World Records.

She is the first woman in the history of the Billboard Hot 100 to have three simultaneous top 10 singles as a lead artist, and the first female artist to simultaneously have two albums in the top five of the Billboard 200 and two singles in the top five of the Billboard Hot 100. 21 is the longest-running number one album by a female solo artist in the history of the UK and US Album Charts.

In 2012, she released “Skyfall“, which she wrote and recorded for the James Bond film of the same name. The song won an Academy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song.

After taking a three-year break, Adele released her third studio album, 25, in 2015. It became the year’s best-selling album and broke first week sales records in the UK and US. The lead single, “Hello“, became the first song in the US to sell over one million digital copies within a week of its release.

In 2011 and 2012, Billboard named Adele Artist of the Year. In 2012, she was listed at number five on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women in Music.

At the end of the day …. “Adele’s New Song, ‘Hello,’ Is Finally Here”!!

~~October 26, 2-15~~

You knew it was coming, and here it is: Adele’s first new song in three years, “Hello,” has arrived just days after being teased during British X Factor.

As promised, it comes complete with a video directed by Xavier Dolan and co-starring Tristan Wilds (yes, from The Wire). It’s the first single off her long-awaited third album, 25, which Adele will officially bless us with on November 20.

Also, dive into our exploration of why Adele rebuffs technology in the song and its video.

When Adele’s new video for “Hello” was released on Friday, Oct. 23, plenty of fans had the same question:

Why does she have a flip phone?

As emotional and poignant as the video is, some viewers couldn’t help but zero in on the outdated piece of technology — with jokes like “It’s not just Adele’s comeback.

It’s the flip phone’s comeback too” and “A flip phone, Adele? Explains the lack of tweets.”

Director Xavier Dolan has a simple explanation for his choice to use a flip phone in the visual treatment for the song, which is the first single from Adele’s upcoming album 25.

Adele’s ‘Hello‘ music video director: ‘She deserves it all’

“I could see the GIF’s on Twitter,” he tells the Los Angeles Times. “I’m like, ‘Guys, get over it. It doesn’t matter.’

But the real explanation is that I never like filming modern phones or cars.

They’re so implanted in our lives that when you see them in movies you’re reminded you’re in reality.”

“If you see an iPhone or a Toyota in a movie, they’re anti-narrative, they take you out of the story,” Dolan continues. “If I put an iPhone or a modern car in a movie it feels like I’m making a commercial.”

Gotta love Bernie …. #25!!

~~March 13, 2015~~

Republicans seem to be itching for another war …. wonder why!

Born in 1941 in Brooklyn, Bernie was the younger of two sons in a modest-income family. After graduation from the University of Chicago in 1964, he moved to Vermont. Early in his career, Sanders was director of the American People’s Historical Society. Elected Mayor of Burlington by 10 votes in 1981, he served four terms.

Before his 1990 election as Vermont’s at-large member in Congress, Sanders lectured at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard and at Hamilton College in upstate New York.

IOTD …. “Image of the Day”, #25!!

~~September 26, 2014~~

Following the city’s fortified wall, El Paseo de la Princesa ends in La Puerta de San Juan.

Between 1634 and 1638, the city of San Juan was turned into an impregnable fortress with the building of its walls. Three of the wall’s five doors led into the city, two of them overlooking the ocean – San Justo y Pastor and San Juan. These massive doors were closed at night to protect the city and its residents from attacks by land or sea.

Out of the three, the only one that stands to this day is La Puerta de San Juan, once used by governors and religious authorities. Its structure houses a chapel, now closed off, that allowed for the celebration of mass even during times of attack. The scripture on top is taken from the Benedictus, a hymn found in the Gospel of Luke from the New Testament.

It reads in Latin “Benedictus qui venit in nomine domini” or “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord”.

(I could not just post the IOTD … I had to explain. This tugs at my heart. This is part of the history of my country, where I grew up.)

A dear blogger friend taught me about this concept.

You can find Michelle here:

IOTD is image of the day, a concept I came up with. I teach visual meditative therapy – or in easy terms – a mini mental holiday. For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”
