Why do I Blog? …. “My Very Personal Perspective …. “!!

~~January 18, 2017~~

I retired from my full time job as a physician with the Veterans Administration in February 2013.

I knew I was going to have plenty of time on my hands and wanted to find something to do.

It was almost by chance that I started blogging.

With the help of a very dear friend, Ra-Mazing, this platform was set up.

This is part of what my ‘about‘ says on this blog:

“I want to offer any knowledge that I have to anyone “out there” who is interested. My views are liberal in almost every sense. My knowledge is “eclectic” – a bit of everything.

Music and reading are my passion.

Blogging has also become a very interesting endeavor. Metaphysical topics attract me. I’m interested in news – reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse – the “wrongly” affected.

My intention is to bring this knowledge to an understandable level and to help anyone in need.”

We ALL are ONE!!

My intentions are truly to share any knowledge I have with anyone who is willing to listen.

However, it seems to me, that almost all I post about now is related to this ‘man‘ who has been chosen by Russia to be the in-coming president of the country I live in.

You may not believe me but, even though it looks different, I’m tired of his antics.

I don’t want to focus only on him.

However, the lighthearted part of me seems to have taken a back seat in view of the seriousness of what we face.

Plenty of times I wonder why I stay on this track.

I received an answer today!

A dear friend, from across the oceans, sent me this message today, and with his permission, I’m sharing this with you!

He made my day!

Hi, Horty

Just thought I’d let you know that you are in my thoughts and that I’m proud of how you have registered your disgust and displeasure at the imminent installation of Fuckface von Clownstick as leader of the (currently) free world.
I really feel for you and your fellow sane Americans and I’m glad there are so many of you with principles and a conscience; it’s people like you who are the true hope for the future.

Know that you have my undying admiration, for your staunch defense of your country in the face of such ignorance and hate and I’m very glad to call you my friend.

Stay strong and continue to resist the odious rhetoric of Orange Donnie and his cronies and be sure that you will always have support from those of us who value love and compassion above stupidity and jingoism.

At least I know, that there’s someone, somewhere, who understands, maybe values and learns from, the information that I’m trying to share as I post.

I feel a degree of validation from his words.

And, as such, I have truly thanked him!

At the end of the day …. “David Bowie’s Tributes …. across the ocean”!!

~~February 26, 2016~~

I first saw and posted about Lady Gaga’s performance honoring David Bowie at the 2016 Grammy’s. I thought it was well done and showcased David’s music and Lady Gaga’s talent.

Today I say Bowie’s tribute performed by Lorde at the BRITS Award in London.

I don’t particularly agree with detractor who say that Lorde’s performance was better than Gaga’s. I think it’s a matter of preference in styles.

I can understand a sense of “ownership” in view of the fact that David was British.

I have included links for both performances in this post.

Check them out and you be the judge.

I can say that I liked both of them.

The main purpose was honoring a British musical icon:

Mr. David Bowie.

Lorde’s tribute to David Bowie, Brit Awards 2016: ‘heartbreaking’

Neil McCormick, music critic
24 FEBRUARY 2016
Well, the Brits got something right. Their tribute to Bowie was powerful and affecting, showing up Lady Gaga’s Grammy award extravaganza for the superficial, soulless travesty it was.

Nineteen-year-old New Zealand songstress Lorde delivered a sombre version of one of David Bowie’s greatest songs, Life On Mars, backed by musicians who played with Bowie for decades.

With Mike Garson on piano, Gail Anne Dorsey on bass, Gerry Leonard and Earl Slick on guitars, they delivered a dark, moody rendering of a big, complex song of one of that classic that was all the more emotional for its sense of dignity and restraint.

Lady Gaga at the Grammys last week went so over the top, her ridiculous mash-up of 10 hits turned into a Bowie cabaret medley that was really all about Gaga, putting the focus on costume changes and digital computer effects sponsored by Intel.

~5 Ways Lorde’s David Bowie Tribute Was Better Than Lady Gaga’s~

~Published on Feb 24, 2016~

Lorde later recalled the event in a moving letter written after his death,

“That night something changed in me – I felt a calmness grow, a sureness.
I think in those brief moments, he heralded me into my next new life,
an old rock and roll alien angel in a perfect grey suit.
I realised everything I’d ever done, or would do from then on,
would be done like maybe he was watching.
I realized I was proud of my spiky strangeness because he had been proud of his.”

It was backed by Bowie’s band

Lorde knew that one outfit was good enough

It had Bowie’s stamp of approval

It was actually about Bowie

“American Oxygen” …. new song by Rihanna!!

~~April 17, 2015~~

Is Rihanna’s American Oxygen an anthem for Eric Garner?

I became aware of this new song thanks to a very dear blogger friend, from across the ocean. I don’t really follow Rihanna but it seems to me that maybe the time of songs addressing social issues (like in the 60’s) could be coming back.

Thank you Miss Kitty.

If Rihanna was looking to make a splash with her new single American Oxygen, she exceeded expectations by creating a tsunami of talk and controversy. Commenting on the idea of the American dream (or lack thereof), the song simultaneously serves as both a biting commentary and patriotic anthem, and is a wild departure from her previous single, Bitch Better Have My Money.

This track is from a more “serious” Rihanna – a Rihanna that has something to say. To prove it, the video for American Oxygen features quick clips of footage from the most emotional moments in US history.

Intercut with images of the American flag, you see film of the burning twin towers on September 11, Ku Klux Klan horsemen galloping past smoldering crosses, and even a glimpse of Martin Luther King Jr’s corpse laying in a coffin. Also in the mix, however, is footage of patriotic accomplishments as well – whether it’s space ships rocketing into the air or the flag raising over Iwo Jima.

Put them all together and it’s hard to tell exactly what Rihanna is trying to say – but maybe that’s the point.

Breathe out, breathe in
American oxygen
Every breath I breathe
Chasin’ this American Dream

We sweat for a nickel and a dime
Turn it into an empire
Breathe in, this feeling
American, American oxygen
American oxygen

This is the new America
We are the new America

The layered meaning of American Oxygen is largely thanks to its two creative masterminds, one of whom is Kanye West; a man who instead of running away from controversy has a penchant to speed unflinchingly towards it. The other is Alex da Kid, the multitalented producer and songwriter behind hits as varied as rock anthem Radioactive by Imagine Dragons and BoB’s 2009 smash Airplanes.

He also happens to be the force behind one of the biggest hits of Rihanna’s career, her No 1 hit Love the Way You Lie. Sam Harris from rock band X Ambassadors, South African songwriter Candice Pillay, and Rihanna herself also share songwriting credits.
