The NOH8 Campaign (NOH8 meaning “No Hate”) is a charitable organization in the United States whose mission is to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest. The campaign was created as photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.
The phrase refers to “H8” (leet for ‘hate’), short for “Proposition H8” (pronounced “proposition hate”), a nickname used by critics of the proposition. The photos are featured on the campaign’s website, as well as various social networks, as well as a virtual world campaign in Second Life.

For some people it is very difficult for them to get their image right. I post an image a day for people to use in their mini mental vacay. Some are serious, some are silly, and some are just beautiful!”’

It was easy as pie. We were there by 11:40. The doors were opened at 12 o’clock. We received our released forms. Completed them and signed them.We got numbers 50 & 51.
Walked in, got our temporary tattoo on and waited for our number to be called. While we waited, I bought my obligatory “NOH8” T-shirt.
Once it was our turn, we posed and Adam took several poses. It was all very well organized.
Adam and Jeff were very professional, well prepared, quick and effective.
We were out by 12:30 PM.
Now we wait for the official photo from their Burbank Headquarters.

The images are widely used on various social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter to spread the message of equality. Some photographers and student groups have even set up their own photoshoots.The campaign photos have circulated on the internet and are appearing on many supporter’s social networking profiles. Both LGBT and non-LGBT people have participated in the photoshoots.
~HISTORY~
On November 4, 2008 Proposition 8 passed in California, amending the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The defeat provoked a groundswell of initiative within the LGBT community at a grassroots level, with many new political and protest organizations being formed in response.
The NOH8 Campaign was created in 2009 as a result of the amendment of Proposition 8. While initially inspired by Proposition 8, the scope of the NOH8 Campaign has expanded its main goals to fight discrimination and bullying universally as a means to spread a worldview of acceptance.
The NOH8 Campaign will team up with The Wedding Alliance for an open photo shoot at the The Parliament House on Saturday, May 9th! Stop by anytime between 12pm-3pm to pose for an official NOH8 photo by photographer Adam Bouska. No reservations needed!
Photos are first-come, first-served – and we move fast! Please arrive camera-ready with a plain white shirt to match the signature style of the NOH8 photos.

NOH8 Co-Founder Adam Bouska will photograph roughly 5-10 frames per person. One frame will be selected/edited by our team and made available within approximately eight weeks (timeline subject to change).
Funds raised by the NOH8 Campaign will be used to continue promoting and raising awareness for marriage and human equality as well as anti-discrimination and anti-bullying through NOH8’s interactive social media campaign. This includes bringing the campaign to other cities and countries around the world, creating and compiling images for our ongoing large-scale media campaign, and covering the costs of the daily operations and maintenance necessary to run this rapidly growing campaign out of our Burbank Headquarters.
A group of familiar faces speaking nine different languages from all over the world came together for our third NOH8 PSA to share their one simple message: I am human.
No matter what language you speak or what country you live in, everybody everywhere speaks the universal language of love. We are all human, and we deserve to be treated equally.

Adam Bouska (born October 31, 1983 in Decatur, Illinois) is an award winning American fashion photographer who runs a photography studio based out of West Hollywood, California. He is known for pictures of male models in particular, and is considered a rising ‘superstar photographer’ in the gay community.
NOH8 Campaign
In November 2008, in response to the narrow approval in California of Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage, Bouska and his partner, Jeff Parshley, founded the NOH8 Campaign to promote the overturn of this ban.
Planting Peace is a nonprofit humanitarian organization founded for the purpose of “spreading peace in a hurting world”. The organization specializes in diverse global causes, including orphanages in Haiti and India, international deworming efforts, rainforest preservation, and anti-bullying programs.
In 2007 Planting Peace founder Aaron Jackson was honored as a CNN Hero for his relief efforts deworming millions of children in Haiti. In March 2013 Planting Peace gained international attention when they created the Equality House, a rainbow-colored home located directly across the street from Westboro Baptist Church, an organization largely considered to be an anti-LGBT hate group.
