INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY

The tradition began with the first National Women’s Day in 1909 and its roots are in campaigning for better pay and voting rights.

What is this year’s theme?
The theme this year is #PressforProgress.

The website says:

“We can’t be complacent. Now, more than ever, there’s a strong call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity.

“A strong call to #PressforProgress. A strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.”

March 8 is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women

The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.

International Women’s Day (IWD) has been observed since in the early 1900’s – a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies.

International Women’s Day is a collective day of global celebration and a call for gender parity. No one government, NGO, charity, corporation, academic institution, women’s network or media hub is solely responsible for International Women’s Day.

Many organizations declare an annual IWD theme that supports their specific agenda or cause, and some of these are adopted more widely with relevance than others.

“The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights,” says world-renowned feminist, journalist and social and political activist Gloria Steinem.

Thus International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, International Women’s Day has been occurring for well over a century – and continues to grow from strength to strength.

Thoughts for today, #389 …. “The. Gay. Agenda. …. “!!

GayA

~~August 9, 2016~~

DISPARAGING DESCRIPTION

Looks familiar?

Homosexual agenda (or gay agenda) is a term introduced by sectors of the Christian right (primarily in the United States) as a disparaging way to describe the advocacy of cultural acceptance and normalization of non-heterosexual orientations and relationships.

The term refers to efforts to change government policies and laws on LGBT rights-related issues.

Additionally, it may be used by social conservatives and others to describe alleged goals of LGBT rights activists, such as recruiting heterosexuals into what they term a “homosexual lifestyle”.

“As it appears in … full read/full credit”

RBLine

To those who know, who belong to the LGBT community, this is a load of crap.

There’s no one in the community trying to “spread the word” or recruit others to become part of the “exclusive LGBTQ community”.

It’s a term made up to insult, isolate and disparage a group of citizens.

“term introduced by sectors of the Christian right (primarily in the United States)” …

Mainly in America!

At the end of the day …. “Brake The Box”!!

Break the Box Campaign

Break the Box Campaign Video

TAASA (The Texas Association Against Sexual Violence) was founded on a simple principle: to assist sexual assault survivors and to create a Texas free from sexual violence.

TAASA advocates for individual sexual assault survivors as well as sexual assault programs collectively. That advocacy takes many forms, from supporting legislation favorable to victims and strengthening laws against sexual predators, to advocating for increased funding for sexual assault programs at both the federal and state levels.

The Break The Box campaign is all about identifying and breaking free from gender stereotypes that can lead to sexual violence. But sexual violence isn’t just about rape or physical harassment. It begins when we hurt people through the words we use and attitudes we carry. Only by combating these stereotypes can we break free of the limits created by social expectations which are the result of strict gender roles.

TAASA’s goal is to lead the statewide community to be free of sexual violence

The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault is committed to ending sexual violence in Texas through education, prevention and advocacy. In the meantime, we desire to support survivors on their paths to hope, healing and justice.

TAASA is the voice of the sexual assault movement in Texas. We are a unifying force bringing together parties involved in and affected by sexual assault as a catalyst for change.

~~Break The Box~~

~~Published on Mar 5, 2013~~

Sexual violence isn’t just about rape or physical harassment. It begins when we hurt people through the words we use and attitudes we carry. Stereotypes of what it means to be a man or woman — for instance, boys should do physical activities and girls need to be “ladylike” — can limit our worth and potential, and create an unequal balance of power that perpetuates sexual violence.

In Texas alone, nearly 13% of all Texans have been sexually assaulted—that’s nearly two million people, 1 in 5 women and 1 in 20 men. While this remains a big problem, we can Break The Box in Texas. By pledging to do our part to stand up against rigid thinking that box women and men in, we can help to create a Texas free of sexual violence.

~~January 9, 2015~~

MISSION STATEMENT

The NOH8 Campaign is a charitable organization whose mission is to promote marriage, gender and human equality through education, advocacy, social media, and visual protest.

BlackBor

On November 4, 2008 Proposition 8 passed in California, amending the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage. The defeat provoked a groundswell of initiative within the GLBT community at a grassroots level, with many new political and protest organizations being formed in response.

The NOH8 Campaign is a photographic silent protest created by celebrity photographer Adam Bouska (http://www.bouska.net) and partner Jeff Parshley in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8. Photos feature subjects with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with “NOH8” painted on one cheek in protest.

Five years since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign has grown to nearly 33,000 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and many more.

While inspired by the passage of Prop 8, the scope of the NOH8 Campaign has grown to stand against discrimination and bullying of all kinds. The message of ‘No Hate’ can be interpreted and applied broadly, and speaks to each person in their own way.

The NOH8 Campaign has received overwhelming support from around the world, and has appeared in various local and national news programs and publications. The images are widely used on various social networking sites such asFacebook and Twitter to spread the message of equality.
