It is run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). “World Environment Day (WED) is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment.

Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.”

WHAT IS FRACKING?

Relatively new drilling technology – high-volume horizontal hydraulic fracturing (fracking) – now makes it possible to reach natural gas reserves that underlie many ares in the world.

Hydraulic fracturing is the use of sand, water, and chemicals injected at high pressures to blast open shale rock and release the trapped gas inside. Horizontal drilling (also called “directional drilling”) is just like it sounds: after the well drill reaches a certain vertical depth in the ground, the well is then drilled horizontally.

As with any industrial activity, the development of oil and gas involves risks to air, land, water, wildlife and communities.

The oil and gas drilling industry argues that horizontal fracking is safe because it has been around for 40 years, but that is not correct.

While the use of hydraulic fracturing to drill vertical wells has been around that long, horizontal drilling combined with hydraulic fracturing is very new and only began in Ohio in 2011. The use of horizontal fracking requires millions of gallons of fresh water, acres of land per well pad, and the use of undisclosed chemicals.

As this new combination of drilling technologies has ramped up nationwide, communities have seen a corresponding increase in harmful air emissions, water contamination, and serious problems associated with the disposal of horizontal fracking waste fluids.

Because fracking is so new, laws simply haven’t caught up. That’s why we’ve called on lawmakers to close the gaps in states’ law, and immediately put the necessary protections in place to protect the healthy and well being of all who call our world home.

Fracking explained in five minutes

Fracking is a controversial topic. On the one side the gas drilling companies, on the other citizen opposed to this drilling method. Politicians are also divided on the matter.
We try to take a neutral look on fracking. It is relevant for all of us, because of high prices for energy and the danger for our drinking water.

This video focuses mostly on the debate currently ongoing in Europe. In a lot of European countries there is a public outcry against fracking, especially in Germany. But the facts in this video are relevant to all of us.

Ricky Martin …. take a look at his tattoos!!!

I have been an ardent fan of Ricky Martin since his days with the boy band “Menudo“. He started singing with them as a young boy. I’ve followed his career almost like a “groupie“. I have seen his personal development into the human being that he is today: an awesome entertainer, a father, a proud gay man and an incredible human being. 

 

Enrique “Ricky” Martín Morales (born December 24, 1971), is a Puerto Rican pop musician, actor and author. Martin began his career at age twelve with the all-boy pop group Menudo; after five years with the group, he released several Spanish-language solo albums throughout the 1990’s. He also acted on stage and on TV in Mexico, becoming a modest star in the country. In 1994 he starred on the American TV soap opera General Hospital, playing a Puerto Rican singer.

In late 1999, after releasing several albums in Spanish, Martin performed “The Cup of Life” at the 41st Grammy Awards show, which became a catalyst in bringing Latin pop to the forefront of the U.S. music scene. Following its success, Martin released “Livin’ la Vida Loca” which helped him obtain enormous success worldwide and is generally seen as the song that began the Latin pop explosion of 1999 and made the transition of other Spanish-speaking artists into the English-speaking market easier. The song has sold over 8 million copies, making it one of the best selling singles of all time. His first English-language album (also titled Ricky Martin), has sold 22 million copies and is one of the best selling albums of all time.^[5][6][7] His other studio albums include: Me Amarás (1993), A Medio Vivir (1995), Vuelve (1998), Sound Loaded (2000), Almas del Silencio (2003), Life (2005), and Música + Alma + Sexo (2011).

Ricky Martin has several tattoo designs, mainly on his upper arms and shoulder area.

On his upper left arm is a naked woman, decorated in the four elements of nature, air, earth, fire and water. He also has a tattoo of a lovely lotus flower on the inside portion of his left bicep.

The tattoos on his right arm include, a beautiful script design written in the Aramaic language, of the sacred Lord’s Prayer, the design has a wonderful spiral style to it.

On his pelvis is a rather small rose wrapped around a sword, which was his very first tattoo design.

Another tattoo is of the “Om symbol”, which is a scared symbol in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism cultures, representing “Brahman” (to grow).

There’s another colorful one which can be seen wrapping the outside of his right leg.
