~LAWYER AND HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST~

I’ve had the honor and the pleasure of meeting Melanie.

She was an invited speaker to a local LGBTQ Orlando event back in 2013.

Since then I have maintained contact with her through social media and followed her continued efforts for the rights of the LGBTQ community in her current location in California and all over the world.

Her right to exercise her 1st amendment rights lead to cancellation of a speaking engagement at a Navy Pride event.

Reason: she has tweeted comments that are critical of the Drumpf administration!

SURPRISE!!

I’m trying to find a video that shows her interview in Joy Reid’s MSNBC show of June 23, 2018.

So far, no luck. I’m including a link to said interview.

Please, stop by and take a look … this is how ‘suppression’ begins.

We have already seen quite a few samples of such attempts.

I expect that this story will have another and, many several chapters!

“Her peers call her “a force of nature”

Melanie Nathan, a South Africa-born attorney, used her law school experience to assist African workers who were victims of apartheid in the 1980’s.

After immigrating to the U.S., she founded Private Courts, Inc., a mediation and human rights advocacy firm in Marin County, California.

She is also a prolific blogger and journalist who uses her writing “as a platform for my advocacy work …to get results such as helping LGBT asylum seekers.” It’s taken her to some controversial places: regular communication with the author of Uganda’s “Kill the Gays” bill, an investigation of “corrective rape” of lesbians in South Africa, which led to a Parliamentary Task team.

In addition to her blog, O-Blog-Dee-O-Blog-Da, she contributes to The Advocate, LGBTQ Nation and others. Nathan is co-producer of GAY U.S.A. the Movie, a documentary debunking the myths that impact gay rights.

“No American, least of all our own community, should sit back and allow prejudice and discrimination to continue. This is the final frontier of the civil rights movement in America,” Nathan argues.

“Each and every one of us has a duty to tell our stories, and not one ear should be spared.”

~Speaker at Navy Pride event cancelled for anti-Drumpf tweets~

Melanie and her attorney, Lisa Bloom, join Joy Reid on the MSNBC show to speak about the Navy rescinding her invitation to speak at said event.

Melanie was scheduled to speak at a Navy Pride event due to concerns about political statements made on Twitter.

“Although her comments and views are not inappropriate for a private citizen exercising their right ‘free speech’, they are inappropriate for our agency to endorse in a potential speaker for a command-sponsored event.”

KHAN, HUMAYUN SAQIB MUAZZAM

By this time we all know about him.

One of the many who have given their lives.

Let’s honor him and his family.

Muslim War Hero Sacrificed Himself for All Americans

Humayun Saqib Muazzam Khan (September 9, 1976 – June 8, 2004) was an American citizen and soldier. Born in the United Arab Emirates to Pakistani parents, he moved to the U.S. with his family as a young boy. He attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

On graduating in 2000, Khan was commissioned an officer in the United States Army and was deployed as a captain to Iraq during the Iraq War.

In 2004 he was killed in a suicide attack near Baqubah, Iraq, and was posthumously awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

What could be the final campaign ad from Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton in the home stretch of the campaign is the most devastating.

“In 2004, my son was stationed in Iraq,” Khan says at the beginning of the ad, folding his son’s dress uniform.

He saw a suicide bomber approaching his camp. My son moved forward to stop the bomber. When the bomb exploded, he saved everyone in his unit.

Only one American soldier died.

He was 27 years old, and he was a Muslim American, Khan continued, choking back tears. “I want to ask Mr. Trump, would my son have a place in your America?”

The ad features Khizr Khan – father of deceased Cpt. Humayun Khan, who was killed in Iraq – in his home, clutching the folded American flag he was given at his son’s funeral and staring quietly at a photo of his son.
