Let it never be said that P!nk doesn’t continue to challenge herself

As impressive as previous award-show aerial displays of hers may have been, it’s hard to compare them to what she did Sunday night, November 19, at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles.

P!nk brought her usual anti-gravity ballet to the award show, but this time it came from the JW Marriott Hotel in Los Angeles – many, many stories above the ground, all while performing her latest single, “Beautiful Trauma.”

Along with several dancers, the singer performed hanging by high wire while walking along the side of the the skyscraper, giving off a perspective making it look like they were gravity bound to it, while in reality they were suspended in midair hundreds of feet above the ground.

P!NK Collaborates With BANDALOOP
BANDALOOP friends who tuned in to the American Music Awards last night in the US spotted the global pioneers of vertical dance. Members of the dance company made a surprise appearance on the side of a downtown Los Angeles skyscraper with an iconic singer:

Grammy Award-winner P!NK.

Teams quietly convened from around the US at a guarded location in Los Angeles to bring a daring idea to fruition: coach a brand new Bandalooper to dance on the side of a building with the company for a performance being broadcast to millions in less than a week.

The result: fearless grace and beauty. P!NK and BANDALOOP dazzled with perspective changing dance, opening the hearts and minds of the audience – while P!NK sang her newest single “Beautiful Trauma” from the sky in a duet with BANDALOOP Associate Artistic Director Melecio Estrella.

“Coming Out of the Dark” … Gloria Estefan!!

~~January 28, 2015~~

Twenty four years to the day

Gloria María Milagrosa Fajardo García de Estefan (born September 1, 1957), known professionally as Gloria Estefan, is a Cuban American singer-songwriter, actress, and entrepreneur.

She is one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time, with an estimated 100 million records sold worldwide, including 31.5 million of those in the United States alone. She has won seven Grammy Awards and is the most successful crossover performer in Latin music to date.

“As it appears in … “

I remember this vividly. I felt a lump in my throat. I wondered what the future held for Gloria. She had successfully crossed over into the American music scene.

We all held our breath.

Gloria Estefan Breaks Vertebra in Crash as Truck Hits Band Bus
March 21, 1990

SCRANTON, Pa. — Singer Gloria Estefan of the group Miami Sound Machine suffered a broken vertebra Tuesday when a truck ran into the band’s bus on a snow-covered highway in the Pocono Mountains, authorities said.

The accident occurred on Interstate 380 near Tobyhanna, state police said. The group was headed for Syracuse, N.Y., for a concert scheduled for that night. The rest of the band had already arrived.

In 1990 Gloria Estefan and her family were involved in a major motor accident when the Estefan’s tour bus crashed with a tractor trailer in Pennsylvania. Her husband and son received minor injuries but Gloria was critically injured with a broken vertebra. She took a year to recover and this song was written by her about her recovery.

The title was inspired by a phrase her husband had written on a piece of paper as a helicopter transported her for delicate surgery to repair her broken back.

It was the first song that Gloria performed and also the first single she released after her near-fatal accident. She debuted the song at the American Music Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, on January 29, 1991.

~Song History~

This is the first single released after Estefan’s tragic accident — an 18-wheeler rammed her tour bus, nearly causing the singer’s death — when her “Get on Your Feet Tour” was in progress. It is also the first song that Estefan performed publicly after recovering. The song is inspired by the near-fatal accident and also is dedicated to Emilio Estefan, Jr., Gloria’s husband, who was with her until this dark time ended for the Estefans and their fans.

The song is a soul ballad which includes the use of a choir. Among the voices in the choir are Gloria’s colleague, the Cuban singer Jon Secada, and the R&B singer Betty Wright.
