ABHAY’S EARTH ANTHEM

The Earth Anthem penned by poet-diplomat Abhay K was translated into Portuguese and launched in Brasilia to commemorate World Environment Day.

Abhay had written the anthem in 2008, inspired by the Upanishads and the image of the Earth taken by the Apollo 17 crew. He penned it in Russia’s St Petersburg and so far it has been translated into 30 languages.

According to IANS, he said,

“Whichever country we come from, we all have our planet in common. A tribute to her in the form of an anthem, therefore, should be able to find favour with people from all countries. Such an anthem will not only connect all of us across the world through a common musical thread but will also inspire the next generation to put the planet before themselves.”

For his Earth Anthem, he was termed ‘inspiring’ by UNESCO, Habitat for Humanity, and many others. He has plans of continuing the the Earth Anthem project by collaborating with the world’s leading musicians and singers to create consecutive editions.

The heart-stopping anthem released on Monday,  March 19, by Lin Manuel Miranda and Ben Platt to celebrate the “March For Our Lives” gun violence prevention actions this weekend needs no introduction, only some background.

The three-minute song, “Found Tonight,” mashes up Miranda’s “Story Of Tonight” from his smash musical “Hamilton” and the song “You Will Be Found,” from Platt’s star turn in “Dear Evan Hansen,” by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

This means the song draws from one story about teenage revolutionaries, and another about teens triumphing over despair.

The song begins with a rewritten line from “Hamilton” – instead of “we may not live to sing our glory,”

Platt sings, “we may not yet have reached our glory.”

All the proceeds from downloads of the song go to “March For Our Lives,” a gun violence prevention demonstration that will take place on March 24 in Washington DC.

Platt’s extraordinary gift for vulnerability and vocal sublimity are on display here, as is Miranda’s once-in-a-generation passion.

I read somewhere that P!nk watched Whitney Houston’s performance of the national anthem.

It was a famous rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner” at Super Bowl XXV in 1991.

Since then P!nk wanted to sing then anthem at the super bowl.

… and that she did!

There was a time when listening to this anthem gave me chills.

Not anymore.

The reason I post this today is because P!nk sang at the superbowl and killed it.

P!nk took the grand stage at Super Bowl LII to sing the national anthem just before kickoff where she paid homage to her “idol,” Whitney Houston.

This Super Bowl holds a special significance to the Grammy-winning artist as she is a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, having spent the lead-up to the game posting snaps of her children and family rooting for the team.

Pink Nails the National Anthem Before Super Bowl LII, Despite the Flu

Despite a well-publicized battle with the flu in the days before Super Bowl LII, Philadelphia-area native Pink positively nailed the National Anthem.

Clad in a satiny white outfit and with bright blonde hair, the three-time Grammy winner was true to her badass image, removing a throat lozenge just before she began singing (and setting off a torrest of Internet memes in the process).

She played loose with the song’s timing, occasionally hitting a note just inside the tempo set by the accompanying orchestra, but hit every note with ease, at times breaking up a note or toying with the phrasing, possibly in an effort to sidestep the challenges of singing with the flu, but her voice was strong and on-point and she had little trouble holding notes.

I don’t know anything about football. It really doesn’t impress me much.

There’s a bunch of tough guys, placing hands up a player’s behind, shouting numbers, running into each other ending up on a heap of male muscle, increased testosterone and frequent stops.

The only interesting thing nowadays is the #TakeAKnee protest. 

By now, all fans and non-fans know about Pence’s costly, fake trip to Indiana. The cost of this charade has been calculated.

It seems like we’ll never know exactly how much it cost taxpayers to have Mike Pence abruptly leave a football game Sunday between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers.

But conservative estimates say it was at least $200,000 – and that’s for the air travel alone.

CNN did a back-of-the-envelope calculation and figured the flight from Las Vegas (where Pence attended a memorial service for the victims of the mass shooting) to Indianapolis and then to Los Angeles for a previously scheduled political event cost at least $242,500. The cost of a flight straight from Las Vegas to Los Angeles would have been around $45,000.

HISTORY BEHIND THE NATIONAL ANTHEM

I find it very interesting how, when any event takes place, I like to go back and look for the history behind it.

Why did the event take place?

Colin Kaepernick’s statement is such a situation for me.

I’m not a football fan. I’d never heard of Kaepernick.

I sure know about him now!

I have been following the stories about excessive force in law enforcement events since Trayvon Martin’s death. It really came to my full attention with Michael Brown’s death.

Since then, I’ve been up on follow up events, situations and details.

I followed Tamir Rice, Eric Garner, Sandra Bland, Alton Sterling, Philando Castile … many  more in between and many after.

I consider myself to be a fair, balanced individual.

There’s no doubt in my mind that these are instances of excessive police force.

Rather than de-escalation, it’s escalation.

It’s more prevalent within the African-American population.

This is the message that Keapernick is trying to bring to the forefront.

Seems to me he’s done a good job at calling attention to this matter.

Here’s some history behind that national anthem.

The Forgotten Verses of “The Star-Spangled Banner”

Do you know all the words to “The Star-Spangled Banner”?

Many people have difficulty memorizing the lyrics of the first verse of this song, which is commonly performed at sports events and other public gatherings. But did you know that there are three additional verses that we almost never hear?

In 1814, the poet and lyricist Francis Scott Key penned the lyrics to “The Star-Spangled Banner,” originally known as “Defense of Fort M’Henry.” During the War of 1812, Key witnessed the attacks on Baltimore and wrote the words based on his experiences this night. These lyrics were printed in local newspapers and set to the tune of an existing song called “Anacreon in Heaven,” and then officially arranged by John Philip Sousa. Key’s famous lyrics entered the world as a broadside ballad, or a song written on a topical subject, and printed for wide distribution.

More than a century later, in 1916, President Woodrow Wilson signed an executive order designating “The Star-Spangled Banner” as the national anthem, and in 1931, the US Congress confirmed the decision. The tune has kicked off ceremonies of national importance and athletic events ever since.

While the first verse of “The Star-Spangled Banner” is widely known by the American public, the last three verses are generally omitted in performances.

ANTHEM FOR OUR SORROW

We have all been reeling from the senseless killing that took place in a local gay bar in Orlando.

The word “PULSE” has acquired a new meaning.

I posted information related to this song a few days ago.

At the time, there was no official video.

I don’t think there’s one yet.

The video included below shows Melissa’ performing the song during her current tour.

I touches my heart and gives me the chills.

I have noe words … her lyrics are perfect.

In the wake of the unthinkable tragedy in Orlando, Melissa Etheridge found herself processing her pain with a guitar and pen in hand. And out of darkness, she brought a beautiful song entitled “Pulse” into the world.

But “Pulse” isn’t just a song, it’s a message of love, an anthem of understanding and a call to forgiveness.

Melissa shared this beautiful moment with us on stage the other night, and we wanted to share her message of love with all of you. We could all use a good cry right now…and a reminder that we are all in this together.

It’s been a long week.

It’s a beautiful, amazing, heartfelt song.

The legendary out singer initially wrote a song about Orlando to make herself less scared and angry.

But putting it out into the world, “feels like holding someone’s hand.”

Melissa Etheridge had just rolled into New York City on her tour bus Sunday mornin, June 12, when she heard the news about Orlando.

Like most LGBT people, she instantly felt helpless and uneasy.

“I found myself roaming around my apartment,” she tells The Advocate. After spending too much time staring at the nearby Freedom Tower, she picked up her guitar. “I knew that would make me feel better, and I just started writing.”

The result is “Pulse,” a rousing testament to humanity and love overcoming hate. In the song, Etheridge sings,

“I dream in a world that wants my soul / That tells me if I hate I can control / But I don’t believe it / I cannot conceive it / Because everybody has a pulse”

It’s earnest but beautiful; steadfastly positive against all odds.

Taino – Yo Soy Boricua Pa Que Tu Lo Sepas

“Yo soy Boricua, pa’que tu lo sepas!” (English: I am Puerto Rican, so that you know!) is a song composed in 1995 by Joel Bosch a.k.a. Taino released in various albums (Con Mi Corona, Numero Uno, Power Mix Latino).

“Yo soy Boricua, pa’que tu lo sepas” became the anthem of Puerto Ricans around the world.

To date, the song still identifies itself as the social statement of proud Puerto Ricans. It is constantly chanted at the NY Puerto Rican day parade, political events and sporting events to rally Puerto Rican athletes.

Lúgaro is running as an independent candidate

BRINGING A RAY OF HOPE TO MY COUNTRY

I heard about this incredible woman through a family member.

I started following her Facebook page and had the opportunity to meet her in person and to hear her speak.

Until that moment, I had high reservations about the future of Puerto Rico, my country.

This young woman gave me hope again.

There’s a possibility that things can turn for the better and the mess that is Puerto Rico now could be reversed.

There’s hope.

I found this musical video in the pages of her followers and fans.

Quite the anthem!!

It’s in Spanish but the words ring true.

The element of youth, Puerto Rican music and rhythm are all there.

My vote would be for Alexandra!!

Alexandra Lúgaro was born on June 10, 1981 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She graduated from the High School of the University of Puerto Rico at the age of 15 and was admitted to its Río Piedras Campus where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with triple concentration in Finance, Marketing and Economics and subsequently her Juris Doctor.

In 2014, she obtained her Masters of Laws (LL.M.) from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where she is currently finishing her Doctorate in Financial and Taxation Law.

She comes to work without any ties to individuals or entities and without fear of making the decisions that are necessary to improve Puerto Rico’s social and economic panorama. Decisions she will base on scientific research and planning to implement strategies in what she esteems must be the two priority areas to be worked with: Economy and Education.

Lúgaro is aware that running as an independent candidate is a huge challenge, but as a Puerto Rican and as a mother, she knows very well the kind of country where she wants her daughter to be educated and live in. She is convinced that we have the human and fiscal resources to get up, what we have to do is administer them correctly and that precisely, is her greatest area of expertise.
