Streisand revealed that she’d failed her written driver’s test three times while attempting to get her license renewed

“I was so nervous, a little bit like I am now because I have you in the car,” she told Corden. She also said that she hasn’t been driving a lot lately because her mind “is twirling” and she recently found herself driving the wrong way on the highway. “This is not what I need to hear right now,” her fellow passenger jokes.

“I thought, ‘That’s it, I’m not driving anymore,'” she said, adding, “But you’re lucky.”

“If this is how I go out, I’ll take it,” Corden jokes. “Corden died at the hands of Barbra Streisand. ‘Is she OK?’ She’s fine, thank god.”

When asked about the current political climate and how she’s coping, Streisand explained that that’s why she created the album, which is fittingly titled Walls.

Barbra Streisand is always watching Drumpf 

When we spoke, she had just tweeted about him and read it aloud:

“All President Trump cares about is winning.

He said it during his campaign, and he says it now.

But what do we all lose as he wins?”

Streisand, no stranger to politics throughout her career, is releasing her first album of original songs since 2005, called Walls, on November 2.

Late last month, she released the album’s first single, “Don’t Lie to Me,” which is a direct address to the president. And on Tuesday, Streisand released the music video – the first she’s ever directed – complete with images of protests and even a sign somewhere in there that says “Stop Kavanaugh.”

“I’m just so concerned with our country and the world,” she said. “When I say in the song ‘we all lose,’ do we lose our integrity as a nation? Do we lose our reputation in the world? One of the songs talks about a beacon of light, and ‘Lady Liberty’ talked about the danger in the sound of silence, when people don’t speak up, when people don’t vote. And now we have a leader who can’t be trusted. The way he pushed Kavanaugh onto the Supreme Court to protect himself is unconscionable; we have a leader and now a Supreme Court justice who tells lies.”

She added that it’s the young people of this country who are already living out the message of her new album and who have already set the example of what good activism looks like.

“As I say in the booklet of the new album, I’ve been especially moved by the young people in the United States who have found their voice and are demanding to be heard,” she said.

“They’re more interested in building bridges than walls; they are the very definition of hope.

They’re on my mind, and I dedicate this album to them.”

Touching and rare video of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds singing together has resurfaced online

Tragically, both Carrie and Debbie passed away this week, with the Star Wars actress dying aged 60 following a heart attack on Tuesday, December 26,  and her mother Debbie, 84, dying on Wednesday, December 28, after suffering a stroke.

Now, in what is thought to be one of the only videos of the pair singing together in public, a video of them performing a duet on The Oprah Winfrey Show following a joint interview in 2011 has emerged.

The recording sees the mother and daughter duo singing  a medley of Al Jolson’s You Made Me Love You and Barbra Streisand’s Happy Days Are Here Again.

The bond between them is evident as they sing, making it a pretty special performance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!

This is my father, Jose F. Rexach-Catala.

Remembering my Dad …. today and always!!

He was born in the small town of Juncos, on the East coast of Puerto Rico in 1911. He was the oldest of 11 siblings. His origins were humble yet he made it and became a productive member of his family of origin and community.

As you can see, he was a dapper, dashing Puerto Rican fellow.

In the early 1930’s, he moved to New York City, like many others like him, in search of a better world and the so famous “American dream”.

He worked at anything that came his way and send funds to his family back home.

His younger brothers became engineers and created The Rexach Construction Company that was well known during the early years of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

Most importantly, he married my Mother and started a family of his own.

He was a great man, a joker, a prankster, an instigator ….. all qualities that I have inherited from him.

He made me who I am, he gave me all I have.

 Have a happy birthday and celebrate with all our loved ones wherever you are.

Dad … you’re my hero. Miss you!

“Send in the Clowns” is a song written by Stephen Sondheim for the 1973 musical A Little Night Music, an adaptation of Ingmar Bergman‘s film Smiles of a Summer Night. It is a ballad from Act II in which the character Desirée reflects on the ironies and disappointments of her life. Among other things, she looks back on an affair years earlier with the lawyer Fredrik. Meeting him after so long, she finds that he is now in an unconsummated marriage with a much younger woman. Desirée proposes marriage to rescue him from this situation, but he declines, citing his dedication to his bride. Reacting to his rejection, Desirée sings this song. The song is later reprised as a coda after Fredrik’s young wife runs away with his son, and Fredrik is finally free to accept Desirée’s offer.

Sondheim wrote the song specifically for the actress Glynis Johns, who created the role of Desirée on Broadway. The song is structured with four verses and a bridge, and uses a complex compound meter. It became Sondheim’s most popular song after Frank Sinatra recorded it in 1973 and Judy Collins‘ version charted in 1975 and 1977. Subsequently, Sarah Vaughan, Judi Dench, Grace Jones, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Zarah Leander, Tiger Lillies, Ray Conniff, Glenn Close, Cher and many other artists recorded the song and it became a jazz standard.

~~Meaning of title~~

The “clowns” in the title do not refer to circus clowns. Instead, they symbolize fools, as Sondheim explained in a 1990 interview:

I get a lot of letters over the years asking what the title means and what the song’s about; I never thought it would be in any way esoteric. I wanted to use theatrical imagery in the song, because she’s an actress, but it’s not supposed to be a circus. It’s a theater reference meaning “if the show isn’t going well, let’s send in the clowns”; in other words, “let’s do the jokes.” I always want to know, when I’m writing a song, what the end is going to be, so “Send in the Clowns” didn’t settle in until I got the notion, “Don’t bother, they’re here”, which means that “We are the fools.”

In a 2008 interview, Sondheim further clarified:

As I think of it now, the song could have been called “Send in the Fools”. I knew I was writing a song in which Desirée is saying, “aren’t we foolish” or “aren’t we fools?” Well, a synonym for fools is clowns, but “Send in the Fools” doesn’t have the same ring to it.
