Something to think about …. Religion?

~~June 22, 2014~~

religion is an organized collection of beliefscultural systems, and world views that relate humanity to an order of existence.

A critique of Geertz’s model by Talal Asad categorized religion as “an anthropological category.” Many religions have narrativessymbols, and sacred histories that are intended to explain the meaning of life and/or to explain the origin of life or the Universe. From their beliefs about the cosmos and human nature, people derive moralityethicsreligious laws or a preferred lifestyle. According to some estimates, there are roughly 4,200 religions in the world.

Many religions may have organized behaviorsclergy, a definition of what constitutes adherence or membership, holy places, and scriptures. The practice of a religion may also include ritualssermons, commemoration or veneration of a deitygods or goddessessacrificesfestivalsfeaststranceinitiationsfunerary servicesmatrimonial servicesmeditationprayermusicartdancepublic service or other aspects of human culture. Religions may also contain mythology.

The word religion is sometimes used interchangeably with faithbelief system or sometimes set of duties; however, in the words of Émile Durkheim, religion differs from private belief in that it is “something eminently social”.

A global 2012 poll reports that 59% of the world’s population is religious, and 36% are not religious, including 13% who are atheists, with a 9 percent decrease in religious belief from 2005. On average, women are more religious than men. Some people follow multiple religions or multiple religious principles at the same time, regardless of whether or not the religious principles they follow traditionally allow for syncretism.

My religion is very personal. I was raised Catholic for most of my formative years. As time has gone by, and things have changed, so have I.

My religion now is based on do no harm, love all, accept differences and embrace inequality. We all have something to offer.

We ALL are connected through HUMANITY!!

We ALL are ONE!!

To start the day …. Think before you act!!

~~May 31, 2014~~

Do we think before acting or do we act before thinking?

Have you ever done something you wish you could take back? Said something mean … wrote something inappropriate … behaved in a way that was disrespectful?

I’m sure you have or you wouldn’t be human.

However, in today’s society some of these behaviors never go away, even if you tried to delete them.

They are documented in Facebook status updates, Instagram photos, Vine videos and on a number of other social media sites. And it only takes a second for your documented actions to go viral.

Social media is not the enemy.

It’s actually a fantastic venue to inspire and talk to others about what the Air Force has to offer, what it’s like to be part of something bigger than yourself, and what an honor it is to be an Airman. In your personal life, it’s a lifeline to friends near and far.

You, in fact, can be your own worst enemy.

Don’t become the subject of the next viral photo or video. Hold on to your personal self-worth and live by your core values daily.
