Mary Louise “Meryl” Streep (born June 22, 1949) is an American actress of stage and screen, and philanthropist. Cited in the media as the “best actress of her generation” – a designation to which she objects – Streep is particularly known for her versatility in her roles, transformation into the characters she plays, and her accent adaptation.

This is a list of awards and nominations for Meryl Streep. Streep has been recognized with multiple awards and nominations for her work in film, television, and music.

She holds the record for the most Academy Award nominations of any actor, having been nominated 20 times since her first nomination in 1979 for her performance in The Deer Hunter (sixteen for Best Actress and four for Best Supporting Actress). She holds eight more nominations than both Katharine Hepburn and Jack Nicholson, who are tied in second place. With her third Oscar win for her performance as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady (2011) in 2012, Streep became the fifth actor to win three competitive acting Academy Awards, after Walter Brennan, Katharine Hepburn (who has four in total), Ingrid Bergman, and Jack Nicholson. Daniel Day-Lewis has since become the sixth actor to achieve this.

THE FOOTBALL GAG

Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me

This simple act, portrayed in a comic strip, has always been a part of my life.

It’s a matter of trust.

When you trust, you run the risk of having the “football” pulled from you and you will fall flat on your butt.

All at your own expense.

Think about it.

Apply it to the current political climate.

The football gag is a joke that has been featured many times in Charles M. Schulz’s comic strip, Peanuts.

There have been several variations on the joke over the years.

The football gag has also been included in some Peanuts animated television specials.

The characters involved in the gag are Charlie Brown and Lucy van Pelt.

Lucy tells Charlie Brown that she will hold a football while he kicks it.

Charlie Brown usually refuses to kick it at first, not trusting Lucy.

Lucy then says something to persuade Charlie Brown to trust her.

Charlie Brown runs up to kick the ball, but at the very last second before he can kick it, Lucy removes the ball and Charlie Brown flies into the air, before falling down and hurting himself.

The gag usually ends with Lucy pointing out to Charlie Brown that he should not have trusted her.

Colin Kaepernick will sit again during tonight’s National Anthem

Here’s what I know – he will likely sit alone.

In fact, I doubt one player will ever join him in this, but what I do know is this …

MILLIONS of Americans will be joining him in spirit as we protest injustice in this nation.

I, for one, will never stand again for that damn anthem.

Jackie Robinson made the same commitment.

It is based on a lie and written by a bigoted slaveholding man who originally celebrated the murder of slaves in the song itself.

I pass.

I had never watched any American political convention.

They were too much for me.

This confirmation was obvious when the RNC happened last week.

However, I watched bits and pieces of this one on Monday.

What a breath of fresh air!

Last night was awesome ….

Watch Celebrities Sing ‘Fight Song’ at the Democratic Convention

A group of celebrities performed an a cappella version of Hillary Clinton’s campaign song for a video showed at the Democratic national convention Tuesday night, July 26, though it was not exactly pitch perfect.

Introduced by actress Elizabeth Banks, who also hosted the second night of the convention, the three-minute video featured actors and musicians—not all of whom could hit the notes exactly—performing Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song,” a popular pop song adopted by the Clinton campaign at its rallies.

The video drew on Banks’ role in the a cappella “Pitch Perfect” movies while referencing the popular will.i.am-produced “Yes We Can” video from 2008 featuring celebrities singing along to a Barack Obama speech.

A number of the “Pitch Perfect” cast pitched in, including singer-songwriter Ester Dean, Ben Platt, Kelley Jakle, Hana Mae Lee, Shelley Regner and John Michael Higgins. Actresses America Ferrera and Eva Longoria, two Clinton surrogates who spoke at the Democratic convention, also make appearances.

WHAT IS A SIN?

The following doesn’t describe my personal beliefs. While looking for information to go with the graphic above, I found a site that describes sin as quoted below. If being gay is a sin and should meet with punishment, it follows to this reasoning, that all other offenses should meet a similar fate, I would say.

For such a small word, a lot is packed into the meaning of sin. The Bible describes sin as the breaking, or transgression, of God’s law. It is also defined as disobedience or rebellion against God, as well as independence from God. The original translation means “to miss the mark” of God’s holy standard of righteousness.

While the basic origin of sin is unclear, it’s known that it came into the world when the serpent, Satan, tempted Adam and Eve and they disobeyed God. The essence of the problem stemmed from the human desire to be like God. All sin, therefore, has its roots in idolatry — the attempt to put something or someone in the place of the Creator.

Most often, that someone is one’s own self. While God allows sin, he is not the author of sin. All sins are an offense to God and they separate us from him

I know Christmas day is over. The new year will begin tomorrow. The meaning of this song applies to any time of the year.

BELIEVE

Today is a special day … it’s the day when the year ends. We’ve had all kinds of experiences …. good or bad, happy or sad.  Our world has gone through many changes in many ways. 

It’s time to hope, to plan, to envision … better things!

Jacqueline Marie “Jackie” Evancho (born April 9, 2000) is an American classical crossover singer who gained wide recognition at an early age and, since 2009, has issued an EP and five albums, including a platinum and gold album and three Billboard 200 top 10 debuts.

Evancho is the ambassador for Mission: Humane, a U.S. Humane Society program that encourages children to help protect animals. A national cotillion organization listed her as one of the “ten best-mannered people of 2011”. From late 2012 to 2014, she toured the U.S., performing songs from her fourth full-length album, Songs from the Silver Screen, released in October 2012, which was Evancho’s third top-ten album debut. In 2013 she also headlined benefit concerts at Carnegie Hall and the LDS Conference Center.

She appeared in the 2013 Robert Redford film The Company You Keep, modeled for Guess Kids clothing, among others, and has appeared on behalf of such charities as One Drop Foundation. Christmas is fast approaching. There are four days left before the holiday is upon us. This has been quite the year. As it comes to an end, we hope that this new coming year be better in many aspects.

“It Is What It Is” will feature a special song every night as the countdown approaches.

“Believe” is a 2004 song from the Christmas-themed performance capture film The Polar Express. The words and music were written by Glen Ballard and Alan Silvestri, and the song was performed by Josh Groban.

The Polar Express is a 2004 American motion capture computer-animated musical Christmas fantasy film based on the children’s book of the same title by Chris Van Allsburg. Written, produced, and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film featured human characters animated using the live action performance capture technique, with the exception of the dancing waiters who dispense hot chocolate on the train, because their feats were impossible for live actors to achieve. The Polar Express is listed in the Guinness World Book of Records in 2006 as the first all-digital capture film. This is Castle Rock Entertainment’s first animated film.

This was Michael Jeter’s last acting role, and the film was dedicated to his memory.
