Donald Trump to black voters: ‘What do you have to lose?’

For weeks, Donald Trump has argued he’s the candidate of black America, capable of changing the “hellish” conditions – crime, drugs, deadly gun violence – that afflict their communities. Unlike Hillary Clinton and the Democrats, Trump contends, he won’t take their votes for granted, and his pitch has its own catch phrase:

“What the hell have you got to lose?”

In the first presidential debate with Clinton, however, Trump’s recruitment of black voters – and, arguably, his attempts to court moderate whites uncomfortable with suggestions he’s a bigot – exploded on a minefield of pointed questions about his racially charged past.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has made a direct appeal to African-American voters, saying “What do you have to lose?”

Mr. Trump told a nearly all-white audience in Michigan that black voters “are living in poverty” and their “schools are no good”.

AMERICA WASN’T WHITE INITIALLY

This country has never been ALL white!

The degree of obvious racism and white supremacy sentiment, which has always been hiding in the wings of this society, has come forth and continued to grow.

Mexicans, Muslims, Latinos and many other people of color have been the target of plenty vitriolic comments.

When whites arrived in this country, they had to “dispose” of the “red man”.

The policies of this belief have continued undaunted.

The current political climate has done nothing to stop it.

It reminds me of “Manifest Destiny”.

It seems to me that ‘the way’ has been lost!

In the 19th century, manifest destiny was a widely held belief in the United States that its settlers were destined to expand across North America.

Historians broadly agree that there are three basic themes to manifest destiny:

The special virtues of the American people and their institutions
The mission of the United States to redeem and remake the west in the image of agrarian America
