When Mary Anne Macleod, who later gave birth to The Donald, first emigrated to the U.S. from Scotland at age 18, she came with only $50 in her possession and a job as a domestic servant.

The new details about Macleod’s journey to the U.S. were brought to light by the Scottish newspaper The National this weekend, and are confirmed by public records from Ellis Island. They suggest that the story Trump has told about his mother in the past – that she came over to the U.S. on vacation and fell in love with Fred Trump, Donald’s real-estate magnate father – isn’t quite true.

Macleod was born in Tong – pronounced “tongue” – a small village on the remote Isle of Lewis, in northern Scotland.

On May 2, 1930, Macleod’s ship left Glasgow, Scotland for the week-and-a-half journey across the Atlantic.

She turned 18 years old the day before arriving in the Big Apple.

IN MEMORY OF VINO

One of my very dearest friends is going through a rough time because her cat “Vino” was sick and had to be euthanized.

You need to know that barely three months ago she went through the very same thing with her other cat, Camilla.

“Vino” was a feral kitten, adopted by my friend.

The chosen name was “Vino” because my friend enjoys her glasses of wine.

After I learned about “Vino’s” crossing, I found this graphic as I surfed through my Facebook timeline.

I thought of her immediately and tagged her on this graphic.

It felt to me that this is just exactly what my friend would want to be doing.

Safe passage, Mr. Vino.

Oh my, oh my …. how correct this quote is!

Some of you may know about my black cat , Kitty.

She’s been featured in some posts here.

One week ago, we decided to adopt a kitten on need. Friends had rescued her and weren’t able to continue their care. We “jumped in” and now have a new cat in the house.

Her name is Frida and she barely weighs 4 pounds.

The graphic reminds me of them.

The pictures that I have of the both of them aren’t the best.

Just this weekend were we able to get them together.

their bonding process is just beginning.

Just wish us luck.

Baltimore uprising not all about race

Since the killing of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer in Ferguson, Mo., eight months ago and subsequent riots, the discussion has been all about race, and rightly so.

Ferguson is two-thirds black, but the power structure — from city manager to judge to prosecuting attorney and clerks — was white. Just four of its 54 police officers were black. The Justice Department found overwhelming evidence of bigotry in policing.

But Baltimore, where riots erupted this week after the death of another young black man in police custody, doesn’t fit that cookie cutter. Its mayor is a black woman, as was her predecessor, and several black police commissioners have run the department, where half the officers are African American.

Yet Baltimore is the latest city to erupt in race-linked violence.
