Something to think about …. “#BlackLivesMatter … vs … #AllLivesMatter”!!

~~August 10, 2015~~

The Shadow of Crisis has NOT Passed
2014 was a year that saw profound injustice, and extraordinary resilience. Homicides at the hands of police sparked massive protests, meaning that America could no longer ignore bitter truths of the Black experience.

Among many, Gabriella Naverez, a queer Black woman was killed at 22 years old, unarmed. 37 year old Tanisha Anderson’s family dialed 911 for medical assistance. Instead, Cleveland police officers took her life.  Anyia Parker, a Black trans woman was gunned down in East Hollywood. This brutal attack was caught on camera, yet her murder, like so many murders of Black trans women, have gone unanswered.

This country must abandon the lie that the deep psychological wounds of slavery, racism and structural oppression are figments of the Black imagination. The time to address these wounds is now.

The movement was co-founded by three black activists: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi.

Black Lives Matter is an American activist grassroots movement that can be traced back to the July 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Florida shooting death of African-American teen Trayvon Martin.

It received fresh impetus from the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown, an African-American teen, and the death of Eric Garner, as well as the acquittals of both of the officers who killed them. The Black Lives Matter movement also speaks out and organizes against police brutality against African-Americans in the United States.

Some of the unarmed African-Americans who died at the hands of law enforcement have had their deaths protested by the movement, including Tamir Rice, Eric Harris, Walter Scott, and Freddie Gray (whose death sparked the 2015 Baltimore protests).

Something to think about …. “Do you see the problem?”

~~May 13, 2015~~

Black Lives Matter is a primarily American movement and hashtag (#BlackLivesMatter) that started after the July 2013 acquittal of George Zimmerman in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. It received fresh impetus from the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown.

The movement has received worldwide media attention due to its massive scope and ongoing existence.

Protesters and protest organizers have met with President Barack Obama and other prominent leaders to demand an end to what they view as police brutality, mass incarceration of African-Americans, and militarization of many U.S. police departments.

It was co-founded by three black activists: Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi.

The shooting of Walter Scott by a white policeman was recorded by bystander Feidin Santana, who contacted a local activist involved with Black Lives Matter; they contacted Scott’s family to receive the video. This led to the police officer’s arrest.

Thoughts for the day …. #146: “Misbehaving vs. Looting”!!

~~April 30, 2015~~

Black People Riot Over Injustice; White People Riot Over Pumpkins and Football

When ______ (fill in the name) was killed, there were riots. Those riots were no different from riots back in the day when black people got fed up with the injustice handed to them by the same people who were supposed to protect them.

When black people riot, it’s because of injustice—and that isn’t condoning the rioting that leaves black communities in shambles.

But let’s look at events in two white communities.

Yes, there were riots. No, they were not rioting about injustice. I’m quite sure that some of those who rioted don’t even care about the death of black men at the hands of police.

What were these white people rioting over?

#BlackLivesMatter …. It’s a movement with a mission!!

~~January 16, 2015~~

This is Not a Moment, but a Movement

“#BlackLivesMatter was created in 2012 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was post-humously placed on trial for his own murder.

Rooted in the experiences of Black people in this country who actively resist our de-humanization, #BlackLivesMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society. Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes.

It goes beyond the narrow nationalism that can be prevalent within Black communities, which merely call on Black people to love Black, live Black and buy Black, keeping straight Black men in the front of the movement while our sisters, queer and trans and disabled folk take up roles in the background or not at all.  Black Lives Matter affirms the lives of Black queer and trans folks, disabled folks, black-undocumented folks, folks with records, women and all Black lives along the gender spectrum.  It centers those that have been marginalized within Black liberation movements.  It is a tactic to rebuild the Black liberation movement.

When we say Black Lives Matter, we are broadening the conversation around state violence to include all of the ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state.  We are talking about the ways in which Black lives are deprived of our basic human rights and dignity.  How Black poverty and genocide is state violence.  How 2.8 million Black people are locked in cages in this country is state violence.  How Black women bearing the burden of a relentless assault on our children and our families is state violence.  How Black queer and trans folks bear a unique burden from a hetero-patriarchal society that disposes of us like garbage and simultaneously fetishizes us and profits off of us, and that is state violence.

How 500,000 Black people in the US are undocumented immigrants and relegated to the shadows. How Black girls are used as negotiating chips during times of conflict and war.  How Black folks living with disabilities and different abilities bear the burden of state sponsored Darwinian experiments that attempt to squeeze us into boxes of normality defined by white supremacy, and that is state violence.

#BlackLivesMatter is working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically and intentionally targeted for demise.

We affirm our contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression.  We have put our sweat equity and love for Black people into creating a political project – taking the hashtag off of social media and into the streets.

The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives striving for liberation.”

Anonymous Takes on the KKK in Ferguson …. “#OpKKK”!!

~~November 18, 2014~~

From a report via Newsweek

Members of the self-styled tech-revolution group Anonymous have apparently seized control of several Twitter accounts and websites belonging to members of the Ku Klux Klan in retaliation for threats made against protesters in Ferguson, Missouri.

The group of so-called hacktivists has successfully targeted websites belonging to such organizations as the Church of Scientology, the government of Zimbabwe and corporate sites belonging to Visa, MasterCard and PayPal in the past.

The hackjob, given the hashtag #OpKKK by the group, began Sunday on as the first part of a two-part “op,” as Anonymous calls its hacking activities. The second part, called #HoodsOff, involves the “doxing” of KKK members in and around St. Louis.

In its typically over the top style, Anonymous announced the attack with a YouTube video. “We are not attacking you because of what you believe in, as we fight for freedom of speech,” the video says. “We are attacking you because of your threats to use lethal force against us at the Ferguson protests.”

This spat between Anonymous and the Klan comes as Ferguson is on edge, just emerging from months of intense, racially charged protests following the shooting death of Brown by Wilson. The grand jury tasked with deciding whether Wilson will face criminal charges shooting is expected to announce its decision sometime this week.

~~ANONYMOUS Vs Ku Klux Klan #OpKKK~~

~~Published on Nov 16, 2014~~

“KKK it has came to our unfortunate attention that you have been interfering with Anonymous.

We are not attacking you because of what you believe in as we fight for freedom of speech. We are attacking you because of what you did to our brothers and sisters at the Ferguson protest on the 12th of November.

Due to your actions we have started Operation KKK. The aim of our operation is nothing more than Cyber Warfare. Anything you upload will be taken down, anything you use to promote the KKK will be shut down. DDos attacks have already been sent and have infiltrated your servers over the past 2 days. d0x’s have also been launched on leaders of the KKK. All information retrieved will be given to the public.

You messed with our family and now we will mess with yours.

Let the cyber war begin.

We are legion.
We do not forgive
We do not forget
Ku Klux Klan you should have expect us.”
