On November 15, Thursday’s episode of The Ellen Show, the Former First Lady made an impromptu trip to Costco where her new book Becoming just happens to be on sale.

Not one to shy away from attention, DeGeneres was quick to announce Obama’s presence in the store, whipping out a megaphone and yelling,

“We have Michelle Obama! Michelle Obama! She’ll be signing books!” …

as screaming shoppers flocked to meet them.

Despite DeGeneres’ attempts to embarrass Obama, she made up for it by ending with the crowd chanting “We miss the Obamas.” Don’t we all?

M’gosh, I found this video just now, traversing through the pages of Facebook. Sometimes there’s good information posted there.

The reason this called my attention is because my oldest granddaughter has been having problems in school since she began. Currently she’s in 9th grade. It’s quite the effort to get her interested and perform adequately in school.

This may be the reason!!

People’s first experience of the system is often profoundly alienating. This is not the fault of their teachers but of the system itself, which assesses us for a particular kind of intelligence. We pass or fail on ridiculously narrow criteria.

I was lucky at school because I had the kind of intelligence that they were looking for – linear, analytical, hyperlexic.

It was only after leaving school that I realized that in other respects I was a complete dummy. Give me any spatial task and I fall to pieces. I stumble over cognitive tasks that other people can perform in their sleep.

If a kid like that is failing, it’s not the kid’s fault. The fault is with the system. As I say, I don’t blame the teachers because they have to teach to the system. Plenty of teachers desperately want to do creative things with the children, to discover their different intelligences, but they are forbidden to do so.

That child in the rockpools: if the system has failed to recognize his intelligence, the system has failed. If an intelligent child fails the tests designed to assess a different kind of intelligence, they become alienated. Not just from school, but from the system as a whole.

The danger is that they then become alienated from public life, alienated from society. Eventually alienated from themselves.

We know that there was a feud between these two ‘officials’.

There’s one right side and one correct side to this feud.

I know which one I side with.

John McCain’s body has lain in state at both the Capitol Rotunda and in Phoenix, and now it’s the day of his funeral. Every broadcast channel and every cable news network will be covering it as the dignitaries file in. Cindy McCain, their daughters, even John McCain’s 106 year old mother are already seated.

There’s McCain’s friend and fellow Vietnam Veteran, ex SecState and near-running mate, John Kerry. Lindsey Graham, of course. All the other current and past Senators and House members. Sarah and Todd Palin will be there, Joe Lieberman.

Then the top military brass.

Fellow vets from his time in the Navy. Then the current and former heads of the FBI, CIA, NSA. Haspel, Hayden, Panetta, Petraeus, Brennan, Pompeo, Tenet, Webster, Gates, Woolsey, Deutch, Goss, Wray, Comey, Mueller, etc.

Then in March the diplomats. Tillerson, Albright, Kissinger, Baker, Powell, Rice. Then the foreign heads of state. Prime Minister Trudeau. Chancellor Merkel. Prime Minister May. President Macron. President Peña Nieto.

In come the past Executives, Bush 41 (maybe), Dan Quayle, Bill & Hillary Clinton. Probably Chelsea too. Al Gore. Bush 43, Laura and their daughters. Dick Cheney. Joe Biden. The crowd is hushed as Barack and Michelle Obama are seated.

The service is absolutely PACKED.

Love him or hate him, everyone who’s anyone in Politik Americana is there to pay their last respects to the “Maverick.” Well, almost everyone.

Meanwhile, back at the White House …

Donald Trump won’t be at the funeral. John McCain left a specific request: He asked for George W. Bush and Barack Obama to eulogize him – and that Donald Trump, current president of these United States, from his own party yet  – NOT attend his funeral.

As far as I know, this is an absolute first in history. And just about as stinging a rebuke as anything I can conceive of. Donald Trump, whose number one drive in life is to be the center of attention whenever possible, will be confined to watching it on television along with the rest of us commoners. He won’t be sitting in the pews alongside his favorite sycophants, Mike Pence, Rand Paul and Devin Nunes, taking in that rarified air, being a part of history.

And the worst part for poor Donald? There’s that loser, Barack Obama, eulogizing McCain … a role traditionally reserved for the *sitting* POTUS. Hey! Aren’t I the POTUS? And OMG! Hillary Clinton is there too! What about her emails!? So unfair!

All this is being broadcast to his base by Fox News, as Donald pops open another Diet Coke and yells obscenities at Melania. Oh, the humanity! Whatever did he do to deserve such an indignity?

How about what DIDN’T he do to deserve it?

Okay, so I’m putting the cart before the horse here. But other than Obama’s roast of Trump at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner seven years ago, I don’t think anything anyone has ever done to Trump will infuriate him as much as this.

Leaving instructions to bar Trump from his funeral is no mere “slight.” This is a personal, calculated statement by a dying man. John McCain, with whom I agreed maybe 10% of the time, really trumped Trump with this one. He won’t show his fury of course, at least not overtly. But he won’t be able to resist expressing it in other ways. By his tweets shalt thou know his wrath.

Well played, Senator. Very well played.

On behalf of a grateful nation, thank you for your service. And for sticking it to this narcissistic fascist for all the world to see, one final and historic time.”

I started reading the book ‘The Dangerous Case of Donald Trump‘ where 27 psychiatrists and mental health experts assess a president. Being in the medical field for all my professional life, I can say that this book is very well written and rather than fictional, story-telling, biographical, it presents medical facts. It is serious and alarming information.

I will also be reading Keith’s new book too.

Don Quijote, fully titled The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha (Spanish: El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha), is a Spanish novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

Published in two volumes, in 1605 and 1615, Don Quijote is considered one of the most influential works of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon. Seattle Public Library topples world record domino book chain

Even in this day of e-everything and iGadgets, Seattle has a pretty vibrant public library scene. As a way to promote the library’s Summer Reading Program, the Seattle Public Library teamed up with a couple college students and created what they say is the world record for the largest domino book chain.

You can see all 2,131 books fall in this impressive video posted Monday, February 9, 2015.

Bravo to the librarians that had to put all those books back on their shelves!

SEATTLE, WA, USA — The Seattle Public Library kicked off its summer reading season by toppling 2,131 books that are part of an upcoming book sale; it took 27 volunteers and seven hours to set the new world record for the Longest Book Domino Chain, according to the World Record Academy: http://www.worldrecordacademy.com/.

The world record attempt was setup by 27 volunteers on the third floor of the Seattle Central Library with one portion of the books spelling “read.” At one point, a book had to fall from a shelf to the floor to continue the domino chain.

“We had to be packed up and out of the building by midnight,” Amy Twito, the Library’s youth program manager, said in a statement. “Everyone was so happy that we were able to break the record.”

It took seven hours to set the chain up in its entirety – however the volunteers had to go through the agony of five failed attempts when the chain was set off too early by accident.

The library brought in two college students, Luke Greenway and Laura D’Asaro, to design and execute the chain, along with 27 volunteers who set up the 2,131 books.

The books used were either donated or are out of date, and are now being sold by the Friends of Seattle Public Library to help raise money for library programs and services.
