Michael Bublé joined James Corden in the Carpool Karaoke lane to support a cause near and dear to his heart. First broadcast in the UK as part of a Stand Up to Cancer special, the Canadian crooner spoke to the Late Late Show host about his son Noah, who was previously diagnosed with cancer in 2016.

Bublé said that when they received the news about his son Noah’s cancer diagnosis in 2016, his “whole life ended.”

“It’s so hard to have to acknowledge it because it’s so painful to talk about,” he said.

Holding back tears, he talked about what his family went through and how all of them moved to California to get the best treatment for Noah, who has since been in remission.

MB4

“When this all started, I became the strength to somehow pull us and lift us and to be positive,” Buble told Corden.

“When they got the cancer out and the chemo was done and they said, ‘We did it, it’s good, he’s okay,’ I fell, I just fell. My wife picks me up now.”

Bublé encouraged viewers to contribute to Stand Up to Cancer before he and Corden ended the emotional Carpool Karaoke session with a stirring rendition of “Home.”

Streisand revealed that she’d failed her written driver’s test three times while attempting to get her license renewed

“I was so nervous, a little bit like I am now because I have you in the car,” she told Corden. She also said that she hasn’t been driving a lot lately because her mind “is twirling” and she recently found herself driving the wrong way on the highway. “This is not what I need to hear right now,” her fellow passenger jokes.

“I thought, ‘That’s it, I’m not driving anymore,'” she said, adding, “But you’re lucky.”

“If this is how I go out, I’ll take it,” Corden jokes. “Corden died at the hands of Barbra Streisand. ‘Is she OK?’ She’s fine, thank god.”

When asked about the current political climate and how she’s coping, Streisand explained that that’s why she created the album, which is fittingly titled Walls.

The Tony winner and late-night host offers his own version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein favorite

This was the first time the popular sketch aired in primetime (as part of his third Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special) and therefore, he welcomed a host of CBS stars as guest performers in the troupe.

Oscar winner and Tony nominee Allison Janney and Anna Faris of Mom, Kunal Nayyar of The Big Bang Theory, and Iain Armitage of Young Sheldon took part in the presentation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical.

Watch as Janney and Corden both take on the role of Maria and the cast performs standards as “The Sound of Music,” “My Favorite Things,” “The Lonely Goatheard,” and “Do Re Mi.”

James Corden has set a very high standard with his Carpool Karaoke TV pieces. Only a million or two viewers watch him on CBS’ The Late Late Show when it’s broadcast, but YouTube and other social media sites extend Corden’s reach phenomenally.

A new one showcasing Sir Paul McCartney stands above all others.

SCORCHING SPEECH

They say there’s truth in jest.

More than anything, it’s evident here.

Yet, the seriousness of Jon’s words can’t be overlooked.

HortyRex©

RedLineBThis week, like most weeks in the Drumpf era, has been filled with harrowing headlines: the Supreme Court upheld Drumpf’s Muslim travel ban, Supreme Court Justice – Anthony Kennedy – announced his retirement, and on Thursday, there was a mass shooting at the Capital Gazette. And that’s not even mentioning the continued stories of asylum-seeking children who have been separated from their parents, with no clear plan as to how to reunite them.

In the face of such a deluge, it can be hard to know how to process everything – but on Thursday night’s Late Show, Stephen Colbert welcomed a guest who could help, at least a little.

And as Jon Stewart climbed out from under the comedian’s desk, it quickly became clear that this would be one of his more scorching appearances.

wrong, but to join in calling it right,” the former Daily Show host said on Thursday’s Late Show, June 28.

“This we cannot do. And by not yielding, we will prevail.”

‘Architecture Built to Heal’ …. “Memorial to Peace and Justice Built In Alabama …. National Memorial to Peace and Justice …. “!!

~~April 9, 2018~~

NATIONAL LYNCHING MEMORIAL

Memorial Honoring Lynching Victims Being Built In Alabama

 “Architecture that’s built to heal”

The Memorial to Peace and Justice, informally known as the National Lynching Memorial, is a national memorial planned to commemorate the victims of lynching in America, and is expected to open in Montgomery, Alabama in April 2018. The memorial is to be built in the downtown area of the state capital by the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit based in Montgomery. Also planned is a museum, From Enslavement to Mass Incarceration, to be built near the Montgomery site where slaves were auctioned at market.

The monument “will consist of hundreds of floating concrete columns that will represent each county in the United States and contain the names of more than 4,000 lynching victims”.

It is designed by MASS Design Group from Boston, and will be built on six acres purchased by EJI. According to the EJI, there were over 4000 documented lynchings of black victims between 1877 and 1950; the purpose of the monument is to name and thereby honor them.

Outside of the structure in the surrounding field is another set of columns identical to the ones hanging in the Memorial. These columns, however, are not meant to stay at the Memorial. The outside pillars are intended to be temporary because The Equal Justice Initiative is asking each of the counties which these columns represent to come and claim their monument. They hope that with the claiming of the pillars, there will be a way to see which counties have representatives willing to confront the horrors of their past, and to strive to move forward, and which do not.

Equal Justice Initiative Lynching Museum, Montgomery Alabama Opens in 2018

This memorial honors the thousands of African Americans who were lynched between 1877 to 1950

Wes Johnson was about 18 years old when he was murdered in a cotton field in southern Alabama. It was 1937, and according to newspaper reports at the time, a mob of men had dragged him from his jail cell before he could stand trial for the charge against him: assaulting a white woman. Today, only one photograph is known to exist of Johnson, a single picture to preserve his image for posterity – his lifeless body hanging from a tree.

Bryan Stevenson wants to honor the legacy of Johnson, and thousands like him, with a new memorial for victims of lynching in America. Stevenson is a lawyer and founder of the Equal Justice Initiative, a non-profit organization that investigates the lynchings of African Americans. To commemorate the victims whose cases they’ve examined, the organization recently bought six acres of land in Montgomery, Alabama and constructed a memorial.

Last night, April 8, 2018, on 60 MinutesOprah Winfrey gets an early look at the memorial, which will open to the public on April 26. The memorial contains 805 steel markers, one for each county where lynchings occurred for more than 70 years following the Civil War.

The markers are suspended in air to evoke the horror of being hanged.

Parkland shooting survivors talk gun control and conspiracies on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

~DAVID CANFIELD~

February 23, 2018
Three survivors of the mass shooting last Wednesday, February 14, at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, joined Ellen DeGeneres on Friday. February 23, to continue spreading their advocacy of stricter gun laws.

DeGeneres was joined by Emma González, Cameron Kasky and Jaclyn Corin, all of whom have made major public appearances over the past week, to discuss the conversation that the Parkland tragedy (wherein 17 people were killed) has sparked and what’s being done to keep it going and to turn it into real policy change. “You all are amazing,” the host said to them at the beginning of the segment.

Ell1

The students touched on a variety of topics, including their widely-watched CNN Town Hall on Wednesday evening in which, among other highlights, Kasky confronted Senator Marco Rubio and asked him directly whether he’d continue accepting money from the National Rifle Association.

As DeGeneres continued to praise the students’ efforts, González clarified that it was her school that gave her the tools to make sense of and respond to the tragedy.

“We are thankful to have been in a school that educated us almost perfectly to handle this situation,” she said.

Kasky added that he’s felt some guilt for what it took to spur him to activism.

“I wish I had been able to be a part of this before I had to feel it at home,” he said. “I almost feel guilty … It took us feeling that anguish for us to get involved, but we’re here now. But we just have to keep going and realize that we’re here to fight the good fight.”

He later quipped, in regard to the conspiracy theorists accusing students like González and Kasky of being paid actors on behalf of anti-gun efforts, “If you’ve seen me act in school productions, you know I’m not somebody who deserves any money for acting.”

When it came to getting her wife Ellen DeGeneres a 60th birthday present to remember, Portia de Rossi went absolutely wild

Courtney Thompson

For us mere mortals, a nice bag or dinner at a fancy restaurant would do, but when you’re trying to buy a gift for someone who has everything and then some, gift ideas are a little more tricky.

At least, that’s what you’ve got to assume after Portia de Rossi, 45, gave wife Ellen DeGeneres her very own namesake gorilla conservation centre to celebrate her 60th birthday.

And because an elaborate birthday present doesn’t really count unless millions of people know about it, Portia made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to give Ellen the gift.

Introducing the gift, Portia said she wanted to give her something that “represents who you are and what you really care about. And not just now, but what you’ve always cared about. What you were influenced by and what has made you the amazing person that you are today”.

So she made a donation to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund so large that it will fund the creation of a permanent home, the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund, in Rwanda for the organization that protects endangered mountain gorillas.

THE AWFUL AFTERMATH

(I FOUND THE VIDEO)

~AMERICAN CITIZENS IN CRISIS~

Last Sunday, November 5, CBS 60 Minutes reported on the aftermath of Hurricane María. I watched it and my heart continued to sink.

I was looking for the video to share it with you. I found it through Facebook.

Today is the 53rd day after the hurricane hit.

Progress has been slow and the spotlight of the main stream media has moved on to other events.

Let the video speak for itself!

(I don’t agree with all the provided in the video. The visual are all true).

Puerto Ricans in the island have endured the longest blackout in American history following a direct hit from Hurricane Maria. Due to a multitude of factors, some say the lights won’t be coming back on anytime soon.

It’s safe to say that of all the places in the country, the one that is suffering the most right now is the hurricane-ravaged island of Puerto Rico.

Most people probably don’t think of it as being part of the United States, but the people who live in Puerto Rico certainly do. It’s been a territory since 1898, and its 3.4 million people are U.S. citizens.

For the past 53 days, most of them have been without power, the longest blackout in American history.

FEMA says it has distributed more food and water there than any disaster its ever been involved in. Damages could reach $90 billion and Puerto Rico is already bankrupt. There has been some finger pointing about the speed and effectiveness of the relief and recovery effort, but the misery there has much more to do with nature.

When Hurricane María arrived on the morning of September 20th, it was largely unheralded and never projected to hit the continental United States, which was already suffering hurricane fatigue. But the storm tore into Puerto Rico with sustained winds of 155 miles an hour and then began a slow 12-hour crawl across the countryside, with the center of the storm enveloping the entire island.

HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN PUERTO RICO

CBS 60 MINUTES OVERTIME

This past Sunday, November 5, CBS Television had a special segment detailing information about many Puerto Ricans, American citizens, having endured the longest blackout in American history following a direct hit from Hurricane María. I’ve been looking for this special on YouTube to share it with you.

The situation in Puerto Rico is still dire.

It seems that the segment presented in the regular show isn’t available yet. I will keep looking and share it when I find it.

During my search, I found this 60 Minutes Overtime presented on November 5 by Brit McCandless Farmer.

Take a look, please!

Forty-eight days today, after Hurricane María hit the island, ‘60 Minutes‘ found its citizens trying to make do without water or power – and frequently losing hope

Every day and night in San Juan, there are blackouts. But having electricity at all is a privilege, since most of the island is still without power.

“At night, it really quiets down because it’s dark,” says 60 Minutes associate producer Jack Weingart.

“The street lights are out, and most homes and businesses are also dark. So at night, you just hear this constant humming of the generators.”

Weingart, along with producers Graham Messick and Michael Karzis and associate producer Vanessa Fica, recently traveled to Puerto Rico with correspondent Steve Kroft to report this week for 60 Minutes.

As they traveled throughout the island, the dire status on the ground surprised them most.

“It’s really still in an emergency mode,” Karzis says.

“They haven’t graduated into a relief mode or recovery.”

RedLineBPRM9

Vanessa Fica and Jack Weingart
 CBS NEWS

But what does this exodus mean to an already crippled island?

“It means a territory, which is already fiscally circling the drain, having the tax base erode even further,” Karzis says.

“It does not help that you’re losing otherwise qualified professionals or a labor force that is dwindling. And what you’re left with are folks that are older, and are collecting pensions at this point or young kids.”

Almost seven weeks after the storm, producer Graham Messick says, it feels like some Puerto Ricans have given up.

“They’d lost hope,” he says. “And it’s like a state of suspended animation. People were just waiting for the power to come on. There’s just nothing to do. It’s boring. It’s hot. It’s uncomfortable.”

“And there are no answers. “

The video was produced by Will Croxton. It was edited by Will Croxton and Sarah Shafer Prediger.
