This was one fun dance.

Awesome choreography by Lindsey.

Great job by both dancers.

I’m keeping an eye on these two … among several others, they are contenders.

I love this show …. when the talent is so good.

Thoughts for today, #245 …. “Planet Earth is a Sacred Site”!!

PlanetEarth

~September 22, 2015~~

PLANET EARTH IS A SACRED SITE

The earth is the planet given to us by God to live on.

Despite what scientists might have us believe, it is the only planet in our solar system that humanity can comfortably inhabit.

The earth is a paradise for the creatures that live on it. Every species on earth has its place in the circle of life. Human beings need food, clothing, shelter to survive.

All of these are provided in ample supply on God’s green earth.

It is an unfortunate fact the we have not taken good care of the land that has been placed in our guardianship. Hopefully, it is not too late.

At the end of the day …. Alex Boyé: “Circle of Life”!!

Alex Boye performs Disney’s ‘Circle of Life‘ in Africa

Recording artist Alex Boye released a music video Thursday, January 15, featuring a cover of “The Circle of Life” from Disney’s “The Lion King.” The video, which was filmed in Kenya, also features two African artists.

Boye explained in the video description that many of his fans have asked him to perform “The Circle of Life,” but it didn’t seem right until Grant Victor co-founder Burt Matthews invited him to travel to Kenya.

“When I received a call from Burt Matthews to accompany him with his company to Kenya to do some humanitarian work, including the building of a brand-new school in Boyani, the song ‘The Circle of Life‘ was just screaming out to me,” Boye wrote.

In the video, Boye also explains that all proceeds from downloaded copies of the song will go to Koins for Kenya, a charity that provides better educational opportunities for those in Kenya.

Words that make me think … LABELS!!

NoLabel

~~July 11, 2014~~

Labels are plugins that automate stereotypical thinking.  We hear or see a familiar label and we have instantaneous recall of a fully developed opinion, completely colored with our own emotional paintbrush.

Labeling theory is the theory of how the self-identity and behavior of individuals may be determined or influenced by the terms used to describe or classify them.

It is associated with the concepts of self-fulfilling prophecy and stereotyping. Labeling theory holds that deviance is not inherent to an act, but instead focuses on the tendency of majorities to negatively label minorities or those seen as deviant from standard cultural norms. The theory was prominent during the 1960s and 1970s, and some modified versions of the theory have developed and are still currently popular. Unwanted descriptors or categorizations – including terms related to deviance, disability or diagnosis of a mental disorder – may be rejected on the basis that they are merely, often with attempts to adopt a more constructive language in its place. A stigma is defined as a powerfully negative label that changes a person’s self-concept and social identity.

Labeling theory is closely related to social-construction and symbolic-interaction analysis. Labeling theory was developed by sociologists during the 1960s. Howard Saul Becker’s book Outsiders was extremely influential in the development of this theory and its rise to popularity.

I could be labeled as:

Woman

White

Hispanic

Catholic/Spiritualist

Gay/Lesbian

Retired Doctor

Overweight/Obese

However, these labels don’t define me. I am more than that. What I am is inside of me. I am a human being and as such I should be treated.

This video explains the consequences of labeling and why it should be avoided whenever we become aware of it.

“Your perception of me should not change because of the labels you decide to attach to me.”
