I caught up with my recorded Ellen’s shows. I was looking forward to Michelle Obama’s visit. She was there for the whole hour.

This is what quality, class, dignity, kindness really is.

 Both of them have fun every time they are together.

On November 15, Thursday’s episode of The Ellen Show, the Former First Lady made an impromptu trip to Costco where her new book Becoming just happens to be on sale.

Not one to shy away from attention, DeGeneres was quick to announce Obama’s presence in the store, whipping out a megaphone and yelling,

“We have Michelle Obama! Michelle Obama! She’ll be signing books!” …

as screaming shoppers flocked to meet them.

Despite DeGeneres’ attempts to embarrass Obama, she made up for it by ending with the crowd chanting “We miss the Obamas.” Don’t we all?

SAYING GOODBYE IS NEVER EASY

I vividly remember that night in Chicago when this young family walked unto the stage, into a huge crowd of people mesmerized by the fact that Barack Obama had been elected President of the United States.

I remember Michelle’s black and red dress.

I remember the two young girls walking along, hand in hand, with their parents.

What could they have been thinking?

Today is, technically, their last day in the White House.

I’m sure that by now they have already packed and moved along.

It wasn’t a perfect presidency.

Many goals were accomplished, many weren’t.

The fact remains that advancement in many causes was achieved.

I say goodbye, from the heart, to this family who offered their unqualified, sincere service to this country.

Fare thee well, Obamas!

REPLACING A PRESIDENT

There are so many other quotes to choose from.

I chose these three because they seem to resonate, in my humble opinion, with some of the many topics that always should be under consideration when governing any country.

Military spending, social well-being, permanent state of war, equality for all citizens, discouraging hate and violence, represent all citizens, repairing broken “systems”: education, health, finance.

I’m very much aware that there are many other considerations.

These are only a few.

The welfare of the nation and the world is paramount.

Deep thinking is needed.

Everyone’s future is at stake.

President Obama gave a somber denouncement of the 2016 presidential race’s escalating chaos Saturday, just as the aftershocks of violent clashes between Donald Trump supporters and protesters in Chicago were felt across the country.

“Our leaders — those who aspire to be our leaders — should be trying to bring us together and not turning us against one another and speak out against violence and reject efforts to spread fear or turn us against one another,” the president told supporters at a fundraiser in Dallas.

“And if they refuse to do that, they don’t deserve our support.”

“We should be teaching them how to disagree without being disagreeable and how to engage and how to analyze facts,” Mr. Obama went on, to wild applause.

“And how to be honest and truthful. And admit if you make a mistake. And teach them that politics at its best is about a battle of ideas and resolving our differences without encouraging or resorting to violence.”

RESPECT FOR THE OFFICE OF PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

“The office of the President, no matter who sits in the oval office, deserves our respect. If we so belittle the office through excessive partisanship we lessen the authority that the office deserves.

The President of the United States is our leader, our chief executive, the person who the rest of the world looks to as representing the United States.

How far do we take partisanship before it becomes demeaning to the office? Is our political system so warped that what is best for the country becomes less important than partisan gain? The phrase the loyal opposition, is important to consider, in that it implies that a person from the opposition party is still loyal to their oath and their nation while still opposing when it is appropriate what the opposition party or in this case the President of the United States has done.

Is anything fair game? Is it okay to lie about them? Is it okay to personally attack the wife of the President or his or her children, or even the dog?

I was always taught that we needed to “respect the office” of the President of the United States.
