The graphic says it all …. feeling foolish yet?

~~March 1, 2015~~

No, Being Gay Is Not a Choice …. as well as being black isn’t a choice either.

This is a topic very close to my heart, as many of you may know. I have seen this before circulating through cyberspace. Every time I see it, I wonder about the anatomy and functioning of the brain of any person who may write something similar or even think this way.

In my humble opinion it does a huge dis-service to the LGBT community as well as the Black community.

There can’t be anyone in this whole wide world who would willingly choose to life a lifestyle where they are singled out as being anything but normal.

Homosexual members of society can unfortunately expect to regularly be challenged, scrutinized and condemned by belligerent type who are seemingly convinced that homosexuality is a “lifestyle choice”.

There is overt discrimination, persecution and even death.

At the end of the day …. PETA: In the spirit of ‪the ‎SuperBowl‬!!

~~February 2, 2015~~

The long awaited day, February 2, came and went … thank god! I must confess that I’m not a fan .. not even for the ads or the half-time show. Yet, there is one ad that I have seen and wonder if it was actually aired. Somehow I don’t think it was.

I’m including it here because it portrays a topic that is very close to my heart and very important to me.

~The SeaWorld Bowl~

PETA’s 2015 Super Bowl Ad

~Published on Feb 1, 2015~

Not even two electrifying sportscasters can make SeaWorld’s practices look anything but cruel.

In the wild, orcas swim up to 100 miles every day and dive to depths of nearly 1,000 feet. But at SeaWorld, they are confined to an area only half the size of a football field, kept in chemically treated water, and forced to perform dumb tricks for food. Some orcas were torn away from their families in the wild. Others, born in captivity, were taken away from their frantic mothers when they were just babies.

Captivity can cause them to become neurotic, self-destructive, and downright dangerous — painfully injuring or killing themselves, other orcas, and even a human trainer. All animals at SeaWorld are deprived of everything natural and important to them and face a lifetime of barren concrete tanks and enclosures.

Don’t be fooled — don’t go to SeaWorld.

Will you help orcas?

And please urge SeaWorld to release the orcas, dolphins, penguins, and other animals imprisoned in its parks into sanctuaries:….

United States Coast Guard ….. Celebrating: August 4!!

~~August 6, 2014~~

This is a post very close to my heart. I have a nephew who has been in the branch of the Armed Forces for more than ten years. He has traveled, learned and grown by serving.

Today I celebrate with him.

~The proud family~

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is a branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the country’s seven uniformed services. The Coast Guard is a maritime, military, multi-mission service unique among the U.S. military branches for having a maritime law enforcement mission (with jurisdiction in both domestic and international waters) and a federal regulatory agency mission as part of its mission set.

It operates under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during peacetime, and can be transferred to the U.S. Department of the Navy by the U.S. President at any time, or by the U.S. Congress during times of war. To date, this has happened twice, in 1917 and 1941, during World War I and World War II, respectively.

Created by Congress on 4 August 1790 at the request of Alexander Hamilton as the “Revenue Marine“, it is the oldest continuous seagoing service of the United States, although the U.S. Navylists its founding as 1775, the formation of the Continental Navy. However, that was disbanded in 1785, and the modern U.S. Navy in its present form was founded in 1794. As Secretary of the Treasury, Hamilton headed the Revenue Marine, whose original purpose was that of a collector of customs duties in the nation’s seaports. By the 1860s the service was known as the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service and the term Revenue Marine gradually fell into disuse.

The Coast Guard was formed from the merger of the Revenue Cutter Service and the U.S. Life-Saving Service on 28 January 1915, as an organization under the U.S. Department of the Treasury. As one of the country’s five armed services, the Coast Guard has been involved in every war from 1790 up to the Iraq War and the War in Afghanistan. As of 2012 the Coast Guard had approximately 42,000 men and women on active duty, 7,900 reservists, 32,000 auxiliarists, and 8,700 full-time civilian employees. In terms of size, the U.S. Coast Guard by itself is the world’s 12th largest naval force.

The Coast Guard’s legal authority differs from the other four armed services: it operates simultaneously under Title 10 of the U.S. Code and its other organic authorities, e.g. Titles 6, 14, 19, 33, 46, etc. Because of its legal authority, the Coast Guard can conduct military operations under the U.S. Department of Defense or directly for the President in accordance with Title 14 USC 1–3. The Coast Guard’s enduring roles are maritime safety, security, and stewardship.

To carry out those roles the Coast Guard has 11 statutory missions as defined in 6 U.S.C. § 468, which include enforcing U.S. law in the world’s largest exclusive economic zone of 3.4 million square miles (8,800,000 km2).

The Coast Guard motto is Semper Paratus (English: Always ready).
