TRUMP BUMPER STICKER

We continue to see the hate, bigotry, xenophobia that has been a product of the presidential candidate for the GOP.

Advances have been made in many of the social issues that have been in contention for many years.

This is one that touches me very personally.

Too close for comfort.

There’s no way that I can stand with this particular ‘man’.

I know my choice!

My main concern now is what could happen after November 8th.

An open Pandora’s Box, of this caliber, is very hard to close.

A sticker supporting Trump’s presidency has been released and it shows a stick figure filled in with the confederate flag beating up another stick figure filled in with the pride flag.

PEPE THE FROG

Pepe the Frog has been labelled an “online hate symbol” by the Anti-Defamation League, placing it with the swastika, Confederate flag, and the KKK’s burning cross.

The “alt-right” (a group that sits at the crossover of 4Chan and neo-nazism) has adopted the cartoon frog as an unofficial icon and white supremacist have added Trump hair to the frog as they endorse his candidacy.

Donald Trump Jr. has tweeted that he is ‘honored to be grouped with’ Pepe, proving the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

CONFEDERATE FLAG

The “Confederate flag,” as it is colloquially referred to, was the flag used in battle by the Army of Northern Virginia during the Civil War.

The actual flag of the Confederate States of America featured red and white stripes offset by a blue canton (a term that usually describes a rectangular block in the upper-left corner of a flag) and white stars. The battle flag came into use in 1861, when Confederate Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard complained that the flag of the Confederacy appeared too similar to the American flag on the battlefield.

The battle flag, designed by secessionist William Porcher Miles, was incorporated into the second design of the Confederate flag and was also adopted as the Navy Jack, in 1863. The design remained a part of the Confederate flag until the fall of the Confederacy in 1865.

The origins and symbolism of the flag are the subject of heated debate.

The flag has long been divisive.

Descendants of Confederate soldiers who served in the Civil War argue that the flag is an emblem of their heritage. Others say it carries an insignia that is inextricably linked to racism and hate, especially since it has been adopted by many neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups.

Sitting in the front of the bus

Marriage equality is the law of the land

Rainbow flags abound

Removing the Confederate flag in South Carolina … remember Bree Newsome?

The outward symbols can be very easily removed.

It’s the thoughts and the feelings behind these that remain. There’s still a lot of work to do.

The Real Meaning of the Confederate Flag

For many years after the Civil War, the symbols of the Confederacy were not much seen outside local museums and burial grounds. The late general Robert E. Lee, a reluctant but revered Confederate hero, rejected any post-war fetishizing of the Stars and Bars, which had actually originated as the battle flag of his Army of Northern Virginia.

Lee believed it “wiser … not to keep open the sores of war.”

But such admonishments were cast aside by the exponents of white supremacy, whose own patriotism was certainly suspect. When the Ku Klux Klan and the Knights of the White Camellia were revived as racial terror organizations in the 1930’s and 1940’s, carrying out a spree of cowardly lynchings, their grand wizards found natural allies among the leaders of the German-American Bund — whose funding and fealty were eventually traced to Nazi headquarters in Berlin.

Indeed, the Klansmen burned their towering crosses alongside swastika banners at rallies sponsored by the Bund to attack President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

GOVERNOR NIKKI HALEY

Today was a very special day for many who fought for the Confederate flag to come down from the Capitol grounds in Charleston, South Carolina.

The precipitating event to bring this to fruition occurred on the evening of June 17, 2015.

A mass shooting took place at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in downtown Charleston, South Carolina, United States.

Nine people were killed, including the senior pastor, state senator Clementa C. Pinckney; a tenth victim survived. The congregation is one of the United States’ oldest black churches and has long been a site for community organization around civil rights.

Not living there, I’m not privy to the state’s politics, debates and local discussions. I’ve seen this political “personality” on the news recently. I’ve seen her impassioned expressions about the removal of this symbol of hate, racism and slavery.

Come to find out … it’s all a political ruse. She had no option and to “look good” in the many eyes that were watching, she had tried to be a spokeperson to do what was right. HortyRex©

Hypocrite

I’m so sick of Nikki Haley getting so many accolades for undoing something that should never have been done in the first place.

She won the Governorship partly because her opponent wanted to take down the Confederate flag but she supported its presence.

Now she’s talking like this very compassionate person who just wants blah, blah, blah.

THE DAY THE FLAG CAME DOWN IN SOUTH CAROLINA

As the confederate flag is taken down from the Capitol grounds of Charleston, South Carolina, it’s important to honor the “Charleston9”.

This event shouldn’t be remembered by the perpetrator.

The nine victims should be honored and remembered … by name.

Confederate flag pulled from SC capitol grounds by activists

An activist group claimed responsibility for taking the flag down. Witnesses said two people were arrested by authorities almost immediately after one of them scaled the flag pole on the north side of the State House grounds and pulled the Confederate banner down.

The state Bureau of Protective Services confirmed it had arrested two people at the State House about 6:15 a.m. Those arrested were Brittany Ann Byuarim Newsome, a 30-year-old Raleigh resident, and James Ian Tyson, a 30-year-old Charlotte resident.

They are charged with defacing state property, a misdemeanor that carries penalties of up to three years in prison or a fine of up to $5,000 or both.

UNCLE SAM: THE TIME HAS COME

A strong push to remove the Confederate battle flag from Capitol grounds in South Carolina and Alabama — as well as the shelves of major retailers — was sparked by the racially motivated killings of nine people inside a historic black church last week.

Long a controversial symbol, the flag can be seen in photos of the accused shooter, Dylann Roof. Roof, 21, used a “Stars and Bars” license plate holder on his car and can be seen waving the battle flag in other shots. Roof’s apparent embrace of the flag has energized its opponents and caused some politicians to rethink their previous support for its use.

Over the years, the Confederate battle flag has come to mean different things to different people in politics and pop culture. To many, it is emblematic of slavery, racism and the bloody battles that made the Civil War the deadliest conflict in U.S. history. But supporters of the flag say they see it as a memorial to slain Confederate soldiers.

In a long-sought victory for the gay rights movement, the Supreme Court ruled by a 5-to-4 vote on Friday, June 26, that the Constitution guarantees a right to same-sex marriage.
