SYRIA’S WAR: CONVOLUTED AND COMPLICATED

Syria has been at the forefront of the news for several years.

We know about the war raging within its borders.

We have seen the many refugees leaving and running into uncertain conditions about their travels and their eventual destination.

This week, the situation attracted a huge spotlight due to the launching of Tomahawk missiles, early Friday, April 7, by the United States on a base in western Syria that the United States says was used to launch Tuesday’s chemical attack, April 4, which left nearly 100 people dead and hundreds more injured.

The video explains the many details, factions, alliances and ‘players’.

HE’S PEOTUS BECAUSE OF A “GLITCH” IN THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE

Fair and square he didn’t win. He doesn’t have a mandate. He lost the popular vote by more than 2.8 million votes.

Yet, even with this Russian stuff, he’s set to be POTUS.

He’s proven to be a racist, sexist, mysogynist, opportunistic, sneaky, slimy, xenophobic, egotist, sexual predator, vindictive bully.

Still plenty Americans voted for him. 

It’s going to be quite the bumpy ride!

When we arrive on this world, we are connected to Source. We are like a blank page on a notebook. There’s nothing written there. There are no rules yet established. It’s like an empty CD. There’s innocence, all is good and pleasurable. No boundaries or limits are in place.

There’s intense love and purity.

How long does this stage last?

As soon as we realize what is around us, after the mother figure ceases to be the center of attention, that’s when the outside world starts invading our small inside “world”.

I remember when I first held Angelika, my oldest grandchild, in my forearm (that’s how tiny she was). I looked into those big, brown eyes and saw nothing but bright light and wonder. I didn’t want to let her go. I didn’t want to see her grow. I knew then that this couldn’t be. Of course, she would grow up and start making her way in her world. 

As we all walk along our path we have experiences that leave their marks in our self. There’s pain generated through some experiences. There’s mistrust generated also. We may become bitter because of this.

Try with all our might to still believe that this is a beautiful world.

That’s our mission. 

Keeping this mission, during the days that we are living, is proving to be difficult. How can we remain soft, avoid hate and bitterness? How can we remain soft when all that surrounds us can have no other effect but to make us hard?

We see greed, dishonesty, conflict, prejudice, disease, inequality, persecution, racism, bullying, poverty, hunger, conflicts, war, killing … on a daily basis, be it at “home” or around the world. Try as hard as you can …. keep the faith, continue your journey and believe.

Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. ( November 11, 1922 – April 11, 2007) was an American writer. His works such as Cat’s Cradle (1963), Slaughterhouse-Five (1969), and Breakfast of Champions (1973) blend satire,gallows humor, and science fiction. As a citizen he was a lifelong supporter of the American Civil Liberties Union and a critical pacifist intellectual. He was known for his humanist beliefs and was honorary president of the American Humanist Association.

The New York Times headline at the time of Vonnegut’s passing called Vonnegut “the counterculture’s novelist”.

This has been a trying week. As a matter of fact, we are living in trying times. There’s so much havoc in our world. So many places where the environment and atmosphere isn’t inviting. There’s conflict, wars, injustice, prejudice, racism, need, hunger, poverty … the list is endless.

When the world around us is that way, there can’t be peace, quiet solace within our souls. 

It’s the weekend. Maybe there’s an opportunity to disconnect from the outside and connect from the inside. 

I know I’m trying to.

A bit of history on the artist

~~Ernesto Cortazar~~

Ernesto Cortazar (1940–2004) was a contemporary classical composer and pianist. He composed background music for more than 75 motion pictures. He also gained notoriety by topping the popularity on MP3.com – a leading music-sharing service, popular with independent musicians for promoting their work.

~~Life and musical career~~

Ernesto Cortazar II was born in Mexico City in 1940 into a family of composers.

Ernesto’s father, Ernesto Cortazar Sr., was an accomplished composer and was named president of the Society of Authors and Composers (SACM – Sociedad de Autores y Compositores de Mexico). Despite being orphaned at age 13, Ernesto continued with his studies by attending a music academy.

Ernesto Cortazar found even bigger fame being the #1 artist on the #1 music website in the world. Among 130,000 artists Ernesto lead the way with over 14,000,000 downloads to his compositions on MP3.com from 1999 to 2001 which would normally make one a multi-platinum artist by gold/platinum sales designation of the traditional music industry. His sites were visited by more than 4,000,000 viewers.

He established a website community which is translated to English, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and German.

In 2001, Ernesto moved from Los Angeles to Tampico, Mexico to live his last years near his family, where he died in 2004. His music legacy is continued by his two sons, Ernesto Cortazar III and Edgar Cortazar, who are successful songwriters on the Latin market.

EARTH

Earth, also known as “the Earth” and “the World” and sometimes referred to as the “Blue Planet”, the “Blue Marble“, Terra or “Gaia“, is the third-closest planet to the Sun, the densest planet in the Solar System, the largest of the Solar System’s four terrestrial planets and the only celestial body known to accommodate life.

It is home to millions of species, including a global population of humans, that are supported and nourished by its biosphere and minerals. The human population is grouped into around two-hundred independent sovereign states that interact, among other means, through diplomacy, conflict, travel, trade and media.

According to evidence from sources such as radiometric dating, Earth was formed around four and a half billion years ago. Within its first billion years, life appeared in its oceans and began to affect its atmosphere and surface, promoting the proliferation of aerobic as well as anaerobic organisms and causing the formation of the atmosphere’s ozone layer.

This layer and Earth’s magnetic field block the most life-threatening parts of the Sun’s radiation, so life was able to flourish on land as well as in water. Since then, Earth’s position in the Solar System, its physical properties and its geological history have allowed life to persist.

To start the day …. not in a nice way!

Once upon a time, Maryjane and I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate a bit of a social life to our family life. We were looking for people with similar interests. We were trying to establish our identity in this world that we live in. We wanted to have a more rounded life … family and a social life. 

We found a local group that seemed to be a perfect fit. 

We asked to join the group, were accepted and participated in their activities on a regular basis. We wholeheartedly felt part of the group and enjoyed many of their events. I shared my knowledge at several of the monthly meetings: telling our personal story and presenting information about the “chakras” and the importance of having breast exams and Pap smears done regularly.

We made good friends … at least we thought we had. 

~~Latina Lesbians of Central Florida (and all nationalities)~~

This group was established in June 2009. The city of Orlando lacked this kind of group. The need to create it was noticed by the founder Norma Crespo.

As a “transplant” from New York City and after her move to Florida, Norma noticed that there really wasn’t any kind of organization that would help bring together lesbians who were living in the Orlando area.

The Latin Lesbians of Central Florida is a fun “Meet Up Group” where Latinas and Womyn of all nationalities, their partners and friends come together for fun activities.

~~Interests~~
• Meeting with the purpose of getting to know each other on a personal basis
• Connecting with people with similar interests
• Providing information related to resources that are available to newcomers to the Orlando area
• Fun activities: dancing, bowling, biking, paint ball, beach parties, picnics, zip lining, pot luck parties, dinner with friends, art exhibits, educational activities

The idea is to get together, make new friends and just have a good time.

~~Activities conducted on a regular schedule~~
• Monthly meetings at The Center, Orlando … Mills Avenue
• Night at the movies
• Monthly dinner at a local restaurant … different ethnicity
• Lunch in the Hood … once a month
• Participating in special events like volunteering at local food banks

The group celebrated its 4th year anniversary in June 2013.

If any of you notice the absence of Maryjane and I, it’s because we have been asked to “resign immediately“.

To those “several members” that Norma has heard from, I thank you for the actions you have taken. It seems to have worked.

I normally don’t vent these kind of topics on FB but since I can’t contact Norma through any medium, I gather, I have been blocked. It’s cut and dry …. can’t make contact and can’t have a conversation, a very mature way of resolving this type of “conflict”. Continue to listen to the “several members” as you have.

Norma …. remember that this happened once before?? I refuse to play this game again. Since I have no other place to make contact ……
