The Electoral College is a process, not a place.

The founding fathers established it in the Constitution as a compromise between election of the President by a vote in Congress and election of the President by a popular vote of qualified citizens.

The Electoral College process consists of the selection of the electors, the meeting of the electors where they vote for President and Vice President, and the counting of the electoral votes by Congress.

The Electoral College consists of 538 electors.

A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President. Your state’s entitled allotment of electors equals the number of members in its Congressional delegation: one for each member in the House of Representatives plus two for your Senators.

Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis is the personification of religious idiocy. She has become a face for those in this country who honestly believe that their religion trumps our laws; those who think the Bible is more legally binding than our Constitution. She’s someone who thinks her rights are being violated because she’s being ordered not to infringe on the Constitutional rights of others – as per our Supreme Court and our Constitution.

It’s just lunacy. She has absolutely no legal leg on which to stand, yet she’s still trying to fight this in court – even though the highest court in the land already ruled on same-sex marriage months ago. What she’s essentially trying to do is challenge the Supreme Court’s decision back to the very same Supreme Court that made the decision in the first place.

Her job is to issue marriage licenses in accordance with the State of Kentucky which is bound to the Constitution of the United States of America. If she wants to become an anti-gay marriage advocate, she needs to quit her job and go join some hate group filled with knuckle-dragging fools like herself. She has no right (nor does any other business owner or government employee) to deny service to anyone based on religious beliefs.

Using your religion to try to justify denying Americans their Constitutional rights isn’t “religious freedom” – it’s discrimination.

And yes, it’s as simple as that.

“What law says the text of the TPP must remain secret? It seems like a case of mass hypnosis. People claiming they can’t say what’s in the TPP trade agreement. And mainstream media accept this premise.”

That’s right, there is nothing that justifies keeping the TPP text secret. The reason it’s secret is because if people knew what was written, in totality, there might be an uprising. But from what we know of portions of leaked texts, the TPP is not good. And multinational corporations like Monsanto are up to no-good.

One example: A provision of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) “trade” deal called Investor-State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) would allow Monsanto to sue any nation bound by the TPP contract (Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States, and Vietnam) for potential lost profits as a result of GMO or pesticide regulations.

Have GMO labeling or cultivation bans within your borders? Get ready to go to court. Monsanto’s court, that is. With ISDS, Monsanto can take its case before an international corporate court where their corporate lawyers are the judges. And the ruling can’t be challenged in the defending nation’s courts.

Fast Track (formally known as Trade Promotion Authority – TPA) is a power given to the President by Congress and would allow the President to push the TPP deal through without any Congressional debate or public review. The U.S. House could be moving forward with a vote on Fast Track soon.

Law 53 of 1948 — better known as the Gag Law (Spanish: Ley de La Mordaza) — was an act enacted by the Puerto Rico legislature of 1948 with the purpose of suppressing the independence movement in Puerto Rico.

The act made it a crime to own or display a Puerto Rican flag, to sing a patriotic tune, to speak or write of independence, or meet with anyone, or hold any assembly, in favor of Puerto Rican independence.

It was passed by a legislature overwhelmingly dominated by members of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), which supported developing an alternative political status for the island. The bill was signed into law on June 10, 1948 by Jesús T. Piñero, the United States-appointed governor. Opponents tried to have the law declared unconstitutional by the United States Supreme Court, but did not succeed.

The law remained in force for nine years until 1957 when it was repealed on the basis that it was unconstitutional as protected by freedom of speech within Article II of the Constitution of Puerto Rico and the First Amendment of Constitution of the United States.
