HONORING PUERTO RICO

“That looks like a Puerto Rican statue of liberty on steroids.”

(a friend told me)

Some of you may know, others not.

I am a fan of tattoos, having a few of them myself.

I’m also Puerto Rican, born and raised, living in the mainland.

Since September 20, 2017, when Hurricane María battered and almost flattened my country, my personal feelings have come to the surface.

My heart and soul ache for Puerto Rico.

Today I visited my tattoo artist again for add ons, updates, coloring and, mostly, for completion.

Colors, shading, The ‘cemí’, the hibiscus flowers, the ‘Taíno coquí’ and the ‘Taíno sun‘ were completed.

It is still a bit swollen, it’s still a bit ‘shiny’.

The process is almost totally done.

Give a few weeks for skin healing and then another ‘sitting’ for any needed last detail.

My tattoo artist, Barefoot Stacy, is amazing!

Here it is!

This is a proud Boricua woman, holding her head up high, ready to hold her stand and give the good fight.

This happens in Puerto Rico every minute of every day.

The fortitude of the Puerto Rican woman has been tested during the trying times since Hurricane María battered the Island on September 20, 2018, a bit beyond six months ago today.

I wanted to share the ‘almost complete’ result with you today.

More will follow as it’s totally done.

Puerto Rico …. “🇵🇷 The Privatization Of An Island …. ‘Shock Doctrine’ at Work 🇵🇷 …. “!!

UNDER PRESSURE FROM WASHINGTON, DC

PUERTO RICO HAS STARTED A PRIVATIZATION PROCESS

Privatization and austerity are hitting a country rooted in systemic inequality

SHOCK DOCTRINE

This process was applied to Puerto Rico, my country, a long time ago.

It was progressing at a mostly unnoticed pace by those Puerto Ricans who weren’t ‘woke’ yet. There was a ‘hint’ of this process when the PROMESA Bill was signed into law.

The Puerto Rico Oversight, Management, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA) is a US federal law that established an oversight board, a process for restructuring debt, and expedited procedures for approving critical infrastructure projects in order to combat the Puerto Rican government-debt crisis.

~Wikipedia~

Hurricane María accelerated the process.

How to stop it?

I don’t know. I don’t think anyone knows!

~The Shock Doctrine~
The strategy by the world’s economic elites of imposing an extremely neoliberal economic regime on communities they control, using some form of shock: a natural disaster, a coup d’etat, a war, a financial crisis, etc.

Once the community has been crippled by this first shock, the economic “reforms” are imposed suddenly, creating a secondary blow.

Then, as the community begins to recover and fight back, the authorities use torture and police brutality to literally shock the community a third time.

In THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, Naomi Klein explodes the myth that the global free market triumphed democratically. Exposing the thinking, the money trail and the puppet strings behind the world-changing crises and wars of the last four decades.

The Shock Doctrine is the gripping story of how America’s “free market” policies have come to dominate the world – through the exploitation of disaster-shocked people and countries.

(Very interesting and gripping book. I highly recommend it.)

Today is the 121st day after Hurricane María battered Puerto Rico.

Two weeks before, 14 days, Irma grazed the island leaving one million of people without power.

Remember the paper towel toss?

THE AWFUL AFTERMATH

(I FOUND THE VIDEO)

~AMERICAN CITIZENS IN CRISIS~

Last Sunday, November 5, CBS 60 Minutes reported on the aftermath of Hurricane María. I watched it and my heart continued to sink.

I was looking for the video to share it with you. I found it through Facebook.

Today is the 53rd day after the hurricane hit.

Progress has been slow and the spotlight of the main stream media has moved on to other events.

Let the video speak for itself!

(I don’t agree with all the provided in the video. The visual are all true).

Puerto Ricans in the island have endured the longest blackout in American history following a direct hit from Hurricane Maria. Due to a multitude of factors, some say the lights won’t be coming back on anytime soon.

It’s safe to say that of all the places in the country, the one that is suffering the most right now is the hurricane-ravaged island of Puerto Rico.

Most people probably don’t think of it as being part of the United States, but the people who live in Puerto Rico certainly do. It’s been a territory since 1898, and its 3.4 million people are U.S. citizens.

For the past 53 days, most of them have been without power, the longest blackout in American history.

FEMA says it has distributed more food and water there than any disaster its ever been involved in. Damages could reach $90 billion and Puerto Rico is already bankrupt. There has been some finger pointing about the speed and effectiveness of the relief and recovery effort, but the misery there has much more to do with nature.

When Hurricane María arrived on the morning of September 20th, it was largely unheralded and never projected to hit the continental United States, which was already suffering hurricane fatigue. But the storm tore into Puerto Rico with sustained winds of 155 miles an hour and then began a slow 12-hour crawl across the countryside, with the center of the storm enveloping the entire island.

“I think the majority of people will hope to have their power up in — in January, maybe February.

I would predict there’s some people on that last mile that are gonna be close to spring or summer before they get those very, very last houses.”

MEET BADASS PUERTO RICAN WOMEN PROVING HIM WRONG

By Lisa Marie Segarra

(September 30, 2017)

So-Called President Donald Drumpf‘ criticized Puerto Rico Sunday morning on Twitter, claiming there is “poor leadership ability” among officials and that they “want everything to be done for them” after Hurricane Maria devastated the island.

The series of tweets against Puerto Rican officials began when Trump said Mayor of San Juan Carmen Yulín Cruz has been “nasty” to him after after allegedly being asked to act that way by Democrats.
