For the Oct. 15, 2018, TIME cover on the impact of Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony and the significance of her voice, we used Ford’s words to create her portrait.

As Haley Sweetland Edwards writes in the accompanying story, “the moment Dr. Christine Blasey Ford walked into the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, raised her right hand and swore to tell the truth, it was clear to millions of Americans that something momentous was about to unfold.”

Using words and phrases from Ford’s testimony, San Francisco-based artist John Mavroudis recreated her likeness by drawing each letter by hand.

“This particular process is like putting a jigsaw puzzle together, but with an infinite number of possibilities,” says Mavroudis.

“I started with an image of Ford and then drew the words in where they might be appropriate.”

“The memory quotes would be attached to her forehead area, and the quotes about wanting to help I placed on her hand. The hand could be seen as welcoming, but also deflecting,” Mavroudis said.

“It’s a fascinating process to watch the face take shape, while hoping that you’ve captured the essence.”

“While My Guitar Gently Weeps” is a song by the English rock band the Beatles from their 1968 double album The Beatles (also known as “the White Album“). It was written by George Harrison, the band’s lead guitarist. The song serves as a comment on the disharmony within the Beatles following their return from studying Transcendental Meditation in India in early 1968.

This lack of camaraderie was reflected in the band’s initial apathy towards the composition, which Harrison countered by inviting his friend and occasional collaborator, Eric Clapton, to contribute to the recording.

Tuesday night, May 1, 2018, on “The Voice,” Team Alicia Keys took a break from the competition to rock out to The Rolling Stones‘ “Gimme Shelter” during the live Top 11 results episode.

Britton Buchanan, Christiana Danielle and Jackie Foster accompanied their Grammy-winning coach Keys in an energetic rendition of the rock classic in front of the other judges and the lively studio audience.

“Gimme Shelter” was written by the Rolling Stones’ lead vocalist Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards, the band’s primary songwriting team. Richards began working on the song’s signature opening riff in London whilst Jagger was away filming Performance. As released, the song begins with Richards performing a guitar intro, soon joined by Jagger’s lead vocal.

Of Let It Bleed‘s bleak world view, Jagger said in a 1995 interview with Rolling Stone magazine:

Well, it’s a very rough, very violent era. The Vietnam War. Violence on the screens, pillage and burning. And Vietnam was not war as we knew it in the conventional sense. The thing about Vietnam was that it wasn’t like World War II, and it wasn’t like Korea, and it wasn’t like the Gulf War. It was a real nasty war, and people didn’t like it.

People objected and people didn’t want to fight it …

That’s a kind of end-of-the-world song, really.

I must confess that I have been in a funk since the elections of
November 8, 2016. I have experienced a gamut of emotions ranging from anger, disbelief, desperation, bafflement and so much more.

I saw no way out until the Parkland students in Florida began their movement.

I am rooting for them.

I’m rooting for the young people of this country. 

They will be the ones to effect change. It’s their time. The old dinosaurs in government will see the effect of the young on them.

I have their backs!!

Pentatonix, the a cappella quartet, released their latest album of covers, PTX Presents: Top Pop Vol. 1 on Friday (April 13). The group has followed the premiere of the album with a new video – this time for their take on Ed Sheeran’s”Perfect”.

For “Perfect“, the well-dressed singers harmonize in various rooms of a muted old-school building as baritone Scott Hoying takes lead.

At the video’s peak, cellist Kevin Olusola’s solo leads to a ballerina pirouetting, right before the group joins in on the swoon of a chorus.

After recently announcing a huge North American tour, booming acapella group Pentatonix are back again with their latest visual, for their insane mash up of Dua Lipa’s recent smash “New Rules” and Aaliyah’s 1998 classic “Are You That Somebody?”

The video, which takes place in a lavish hotel room over looking a serene city-scape, begins with a single shot, panning from member to member, as the group builds a sleek blend of both song’s beats, before singer Scott Hoying bounces back and forth from Aaliyah to Dua Lipa.

The group all meet up at the chorus, as a stream of harmony pours over the vocalized production, “I’ve got new rules, I count ’em/Are you that somebody? Tell me you’re that Somebody,” they croon on the hook.

Pentatonix has put their signature a cappella spin on the Camila Cabello’s smash, releasing their own version Friday (Feb. 23, 2018), complete with a corresponding music video.

The video is set in a living room, as the quintet sings its way through the breakthrough hit, backed by no instruments, but with some additional beatboxing.

Notably, the group is without founding member Avi Kaplan, who has since been replaced by Matt Sallee, responsible for half of the beatboxing for this rendition.

~Millions Of People Are Floored When Bon Jovi Sings “Hallelujah”~

Back in 2007, Bon Jovi performed a stripped-down rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” – and it’s been seen by more than 43 million people ever since!

He sings it with such emotion, it’s hard not to tear up and press repeat over and over and over again.

It seems every performer likes to put their own spin on the classic song. Bon Jovi’s version is more raw but just as compelling.

It doesn’t hurt that the song and its lyrics are pure genius.

I remember as if it was yesterday.

I watched Ellen’s sitcom religiously.

I followed all her antics and was waiting for that one episode.

Did you expect it to turn into all of this?,” Oprah Winfrey asked Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show that aired on the afternoon of April 30, 1997.

Two weeks earlier, a Time cover had debuted, featuring DeGeneres and the instantly famous words “Yep, I’m Gay.”

On April 25, DeGeneres spoke to Diane Sawyer on 20/20 and said, “I decided this was not going to be something that I was going to live the rest of my life being ashamed of.”

Hours after the Oprah interview aired, DeGeneres’s charismatic bookstore owner character, Ellen Morgan, followed suit, coming out as gay in a one-hour, two-part episode of her sitcom Ellen. “The Puppy Episode” was watched by an estimated 44 million people, nearly three times the show’s usual ratings.

It’s been 20 years since that April.

DeGeneres has hosted her own daytime talk show, also called Ellen, for nearly 14 years. She’s hosted the Oscars, won the Presidential Medal of Freedom, starred in two blockbuster cartoons, and all the while lived openly as a gay woman.
