At the end of the day … “Celine: The Colour of My Love”!!

~~January 15, 2016~~

A SONG TO EXPRESS FEELINGS

The Colour of my Love is my third Celine Dion CD. With its release in 1993, she was becoming stronger and stronger in her popularity in America.

I had all her previous CD’s.

I was an ardent fan!

There was no stopping Celine then.

She crossed over into the American music scene.

When I buy a CD, I always look through the accompanying flyer/information.

Many times the lyrics to the songs are included, the credits to the writers and producers and many “thank you’s” to those involved in the project.

As I read the credits, I found a treasure.

I think that was her intention.

She wanted the world to know about her love for René.

CELINE

“So many wonderful people who have worked so hard and supported me so much to make this album possible. Words alone cannot express my appreciation … I’m truly grateful for their encouragement and belief. I’d like to thank them all.”

She goes on, listing those who helped. She also thanks her parents. At the end of her message, you can read the most important part.

The most endearing and important thank you is this one:

“René …. for so many years I’ve kept our special dream locked away inside my heart. But now, it’s getting too powerful to keep inside of me.

So, after all these years, let me

“paint the truth, show how I feel, try to make you completely real”….

René, you are the colour of my love.”

The Colour of My Love is the third English-language studio album by Canadian recording artist Celine Dion. It was released by Columbia Records/550 Music on 9 November 1993. The songs were produced mainly by David Foster, Ric Wake, Guy Roche, Walter Afanasieff and Christopher Neil, and four of them were written by Diane Warren. The album features two cover versions of “The Power of Love” and “When I Fall in Love.”

After its release, The Colour of My Love received generally mixed reviews from music critics but became a commercial success, topping the charts in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and few other European countries, and reaching top ten elsewhere, including number four in the United States.

Celine Dion’s version of this song became a popular favorite.

PARTIAL LYRICS

I’ll draw the years all passing by
So much to learn so much to try
And with this ring our lives will start
Swearing that we’ll never part
I offer what you cannot buy
Devoted love until we die ….

We hope you enjoy our arrangement of Chris Medina’s tune, “What Are Words.”

We were inspired by this song because it was originally written as a tribute to Chris’ fiance who suffered a brain injury as the result of a car accident. Chris wouldn’t abandon her when she needed him most — the lyrics are beautiful, filled with poetic promises.

Listen to the original song and learn more about the story here: https://goo.gl/xpHqwB

We would also like to give a HUGE THANK YOU to Peter Hollens and his angel wife, Evynne whose transcendent voices gave this arrangement wings.

Thanks again for watching!!!

Gloria Estefan Breaks Vertebra in Crash as Truck Hits Band Bus
March 21, 1990

SCRANTON, Pa. — Singer Gloria Estefan of the group Miami Sound Machine suffered a broken vertebra Tuesday when a truck ran into the band’s bus on a snow-covered highway in the Pocono Mountains, authorities said.

The accident occurred on Interstate 380 near Tobyhanna, state police said. The group was headed for Syracuse, N.Y., for a concert scheduled for that night. The rest of the band had already arrived.

~~COMING OUT OF THE DARK~~

In 1990 Gloria Estefan and her family were involved in a major motor accident when the Estefan’s tour bus crashed with a tractor trailer in Pennsylvania. Her husband and son received minor injuries but Gloria was critically injured with a broken vertebra. She took a year to recover and this song was written by her about her recovery.

The title was inspired by a phrase her husband had written on a piece of paper as a helicopter transported her for delicate surgery to repair her broken back.

It was the first song that Gloria performed and also the first single she released after her near-fatal accident. She debuted the song at the American Music Awards, held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, on January 29, 1991.

~Song History~

This is the first single released after Estefan’s tragic accident — an 18-wheeler rammed her tour bus, nearly causing the singer’s death — when her “Get on Your Feet Tour” was in progress. It is also the first song that Estefan performed publicly after recovering. The song is inspired by the near-fatal accident and also is dedicated to Emilio Estefan, Jr., Gloria’s husband, who was with her until this dark time ended for the Estefans and their fans.

The song is a soul ballad which includes the use of a choir. Among the voices in the choir are Gloria’s colleague, the Cuban singer Jon Secada, and the R&B singer Betty Wright.

Madam C. J. Walker …. know who she is?

~~November 26, 2014~~

Entrepreneur, philanthropist, and civil rights advocate Madam C.J. Walker famously became the first female self-made millionaire in America. Born in 1867 as Sarah Breedlove in Delta, Louisiana, Walker was the first child in her family born into freedom following the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation; Walker’s parents and elder siblings had been slaves on the Madison Parish plantation. Orphaned by age 7, Walker was married and then widowed by the time she was 20.

Seeking more opportunities for herself and her young daughter, Walker moved to St. Louis where she began experimenting with home remedies to treat scalp diseases. Due to a widespread lack of indoor plumbing and infrequent bathing, many people at the time, including Walker, suffered from scalp diseases and hair loss. Over time, she developed her own line of hair products especially designed to meet the needs of black women and founded the Madam C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company.

To promote her hair products, she embarked on a sales drive throughout the South, holding demonstrations and selling her goods door to door. In 1908, she opened a college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to train “hair culturists.” Within two years, she moved to Indianapolis to set up her national headquarters and began training other African American women in setting up their own businesses, often as licensed Walker Agents selling her line of hair care products. At its peak, her company employed over 3,000 people.

Mad11

Walker was active in the social and political issues of the day, including joining leaders of the NAACP in their efforts to make lynching a federal crime. She also made many financial contributions to help support African American schools, organizations, orphanages, and retirement homes, among them the largest contribution to preserve the Washington, DC home of the famous abolitionist Frederick Douglass.

By the time of her death at age 51, this pioneering businesswoman had become the first American woman to become a self-made millionaire. Well-known for both her diligence and perseverance, Walker once stated, “There is no royal flower-strewn path to success. And if there is, I have not found it – for if I have accomplished anything in life it is because I have been willing to work hard.”

~~Early life~~

Attenborough was born on 29 August 1923 in Cambridge, England, the eldest of three sons of Mary Attenborough (née Clegg), a founding member of the Marriage Guidance Council, and Frederick Levi Attenborough, a scholar and academic administrator who was a fellow at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and wrote a standard text on Anglo-Saxon law. Attenborough was educated at Wyggeston Grammar School for Boys in Leicester and studied at RADA.

R4

In September 1939, the Attenboroughs took in two German-Jewish refugee girls, Helga and Irene Bejach (aged 9 and 11 respectively), who lived with them in College House and were adopted by the family after the war when it was discovered that their parents had been killed. They moved to America in the 1950s and lived with an uncle, where they married and took American citizenship. They are both now deceased.

During the Second World War, Attenborough served in the Royal Air Force. After initial pilot training he was seconded to the newly formed RAF Film Unit at Pinewood Studios, under the command of Flight Lieutenant John Boulting (whose brother Peter Cotes would later direct Attenborough in the play The Mousetrap) where he appeared with Edward G. Robinson in the propaganda film Journey Together (1943).

He then volunteered to fly with the Film Unit and after further training, where he sustained permanent ear damage, qualified as a sergeant, flying on several missions over Europe filming from the rear gunner’s position to record the outcome of Bomber Command sorties.

~Health~

In August 2008 Attenborough entered hospital with heart problems and was fitted with a pacemaker. In December 2008 he suffered a fall at his home after a stroke,] and was admitted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, southwest London. He went into a coma, but came out of it within a few days.
