MOTHER DAUGHTER DUET

Touching and rare video of Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds singing together has resurfaced online

Tragically, both Carrie and Debbie passed away this week, with the Star Wars actress dying aged 60 following a heart attack on Tuesday, December 26, and her mother Debbie, 84, dying on Wednesday, December 28, after suffering a stroke.

Now, in what is thought to be one of the only videos of the pair singing together in public, a video of them performing a duet on The Oprah Winfrey Show following a joint interview in 2011 has emerged.

The recording sees the mother and daughter duo singing a medley of Al Jolson’s You Made Me Love You and Barbra Streisand’s Happy Days Are Here Again.

The bond between them is evident as they sing, making it a pretty special performance.

WEDDING RINGS

Here’s something about the history and symbolism behind the tradition of wearing a wedding ring and why, in most western cultures, it’s worn on the fourth finger of the left hand, otherwise known as the ring finger.

Wedding rings today are a billion dollar sentiment of love, but no one can really say for sure when this age old tradition actually started. Some believe that the oldest recorded exchange of wedding rings comes from ancient Egypt, about 4800 years ago. Sedges, rushes and reeds, growing alongside the well-known papyrus were twisted and braided into rings for fingers an other decorative ornaments worn by the women in those days.

The circle was the symbol of eternity, with no beginning or end, not only to the Egyptians, but many other ancient cultures. The hole in the center of the ring also had significance. It wasn’t just considered a space, but rather a gateway, or door; leading to things and events both known and unknown. To give someone a ring signifies never-ending and immortal love.

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. I currently live in Florida - since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs. I also worked for the government of Puerto Rico from 1979 through 1985 .... for a total of almost 40 years as a physician. I want to offer any knowledge that I have to anyone "out there" who is interested. My views are liberal in almost every sense. My knowledge is "eclectic" - a bit of everything. Music and reading are my passion. Blogging has also become a very interesting endeavor. Metaphysical topics attract me. I'm interested in news - reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse - the "wrongly" affected. My intention is to bring this knowledge to an understandable level and to help anyone in need. I'm open to questions and will answer them to the best of my ability.
