In spite of the political and daily problems the United Kingdom seems to be going through, it looks their concept of political advertisement goes along the correct path.

Can the US learn a lesson here?

“There’s a Rang-tan in my bedroom, and I don’t know what to do,” the British actress Emma Thompson says, lending her voice to a young girl in an animated advertisement for Iceland, a food retailer in Britain.

It turns out the “Rang-tan” is a baby orangutan that has lost its mother and the rain forest it once called home, and that it no longer has a place to live.

The story line might seem harmless enough, but the commercial wasn’t cleared this week to air on British TV because it was deemed to violate laws against political advertising.

The decision ignited a firestorm on social media in Britain and led to a wildly popular petition demanding that it be overturned. And to many in the United States, where more than $3 billion was spent on political advertising for the recent midterm elections, the reaction was total bafflement.

Really, many wondered, can political advertising be banned?

As of today, midterm elections in the USA are 17 days off.

Many Puerto Ricans moved to the mainland after Hurricane María devastated the island.

Guess what?

As American citizens, Puerto Ricans have the right to vote in elections in the mainland.

I’m sure many won’t forget about the weak response to the devastation.

I, for one, can’t get the image of Drumpf throwing paper towels to those gathered the see him, expecting … what?

I vote!

Arecibo Observatory
Arecibo Observatory in Puerto Rico is a part of the National Astronomy and Ionosphere Center. This national research center is operated by Cornell under a cooperative agreement with the National Science Foundation (NSF).

The observatory was conceived in 1960 by former Cornell electrical engineering professor William E. Gordon. It is the largest radio telescope in the world–the main reflector dish measures 330 meters (1000 feet) in diameter and covers an area of 18 acres.

Grotesque Spectacle in Jerusalem

The complicit first daughter and her shady husband are partying in Jerusalem while Palestinian people are being slaughtered

The juxtaposition of images of dead and wounded Palestinians and Ivanka Drumpf smiling in Jerusalem like a Zionist Marie Antoinette tell us a lot about America’s relationship to Israel right now

I can’t wrap my mind around this.

There’s no worse blind person than one blind person who doesn’t want to see. 

I can only see misery, self defense, preservation from the Palestinians and total disregard from the state of Israel. Israel has military grade weapons, has been encroaching in Palestine land, suffocating the Palestine nations in ways that I can only imagine.

In the meantime, the Drumpfs, the Netanyahus, the powerful, hawkish Jews and Zionist evangelicals take advantage of the lack of morals, values, policies and strategy of the

“Fool on the Hill“.

On Monday, May 14, Ivanka Drumpf, Jared Kushner and other leading lights of the Trumpist right gathered in Israel to celebrate the relocation of the American Embassy to Jerusalem, a gesture widely seen as a slap in the face to Palestinians who envision East Jerusalem as their future capital.

The event was grotesque

It was a consummation of the cynical alliance between hawkish Jews and Zionist evangelicals who believe that the return of Jews to Israel will usher in the apocalypse and the return of Christ, after which Jews who don’t convert will burn forever.

This spectacle, geared toward Drumpf’s Christian American base, coincided with a massacre about 40 miles away. Since March 30, there have been mass protests at the fence separating Gaza and Israel.

Gazans, facing an escalating humanitarian crisis due in large part to an Israeli blockade, are demanding the right to return to homes in Israel that their families were forced from at Israel’s founding.

TALK ABOUT DAVID AND GOLIATH

The demonstrators have been mostly but not entirely peaceful; Gazans have thrown rocks at Israeli soldiers and tried to fly flaming kites into Israel.

The Israeli military has responded with live gunfire as well as rubber bullets and tear gas. In clashes on Monday, at least 58 Palestinians were killed and thousands wounded, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.

Have you ever been grateful for something that you find aesthetically revolting?

The caustically violent “This Is America,” Donald Glover’s latest single and video under his musical moniker Childish Gambino, is exactly that.

The song, which blends jazz, hip-hop, and South African melodies to deliver a scheming-up mantra of “get your money, black man,” takes on an entirely different tone when paired with its Hiro Murai-directed music video that depicts Glover maniacally dancing while simultaneously murdering black people in pastoral tableaus.

Informative video but there were some other things I picked up/read about:

1. His pants are supposed to be similar to the basics of confederate army uniforms
2. SZA (the women at the end) is representing lady liberty passively watching this all going on, which is ironic since she’s the symbol of freedom.
3. The horse followed by the police car is a biblical reference “And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him.” – Revelation 6:8 “
4. The cars shown in the video are all 80s-90s make. They’re not like the typical rap cars you see in videos.
5. Kids on their cellphones represent how passive we are when things happen in front of us. There has been many occasions when something fatal could have been stopped, but people were too busy recording it on their phones.
Anyways! That’s a few takeaways I’ve had.

Good art always provokes thought and conversation.

I love how this video has done that.

TIME DOESN’T STOP FOR ANYTHING OR ANYONE

LIFE GOES ON

Hurricane María battered the American possession/colony of Puerto Rico on September 20, 2017.

Life in my country has forever been changed.

Even though this is not top news anymore, the 3 million + American citizens living there are hurting, suffering and dealing with their lives the best way they can.

~THE LADY IN READ WHO APPEARS IN THE VIDEO~

Jennifer González-Colón is the resident commissioner from Puerto Rico and is a Republican. She has served since Jan 3, 2017. González-Colón is next up for reelection in 2020.

Because Puerto Rico is a territory/colony of the United States, and not a state, its representative in the House of Representatives is a delegate, called the resident commissioner, with limited voting privileges – González-Colón can vote in committee but not on the House floor, including not on the final passage of bills. Delegates have a marginalized role in Congress and their constituents are not represented in Congress in the same manner as most citizens.

I don’t agree with her politics and I personally do not like her. 

(How can a woman, from an American colony, be a Republican, escapes my mind’s grasp!)
