When my band Green Day released our album American Idiot almost 13 years ago, we knew we were lobbing a grenade into the lap of the culture. Oh, the things ‘so-called President’ Drumpf will be greeted with this week when he visits London: demonstrators, a giant “Trump Baby” balloon – and a uniquely British musical protest.
For the past couple of weeks, a social media campaign has sought to make Green Day‘s classic 2004 jam “American Idiot” the No. 1 tune in the UK by the time Drumpf arrives Friday, July 13.

The “Get American Idiot to No.1 for Drumpf’s UK Visit” Facebook page has been advocating for some type of musical protest during a Drumpf visit to Britain pretty much since the start of his presidency. After Drumpf’s “working visit” – as opposed to a formal state visit – was announced in April, the effort went into overdrive.

The plan had been for Vice President Mike Pence to attend the Indianapolis Colts game at which Peyton Manning’s number was to be retired, a gala celebration of the former Colts quarterback’s contributions to Pence’s home state.

The former governor of Indiana and his wife, wearing a Manning No. 18 jersey, left Lucas Oil Stadium after the national anthem, following instructions from Drumpf after a number of San Francisco 49ers players, as they usually do, took a knee during the anthem.

“I asked @VP Pence to leave stadium if any players kneeled,” Drumpf posted on Twitter. “I am proud of him and @SecondLady Karen.”

The first rule of blatant political stunts is not to let on that they are blatant political stunts.

Pence was acting not out of spontaneous patriotism but out of blind loyalty to a president who reduces everyone around him to a sleazy character on a reality TV show.

Carmen Yulín Cruz Soto (born February 25, 1963) is a Puerto Rican politician who is serving as the current mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Drumpf’s response to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Puerto Rico has been roundly criticized as insufficient, with many calling it “Trump’s Katrina.” On Thursday, September 28, Elaine Duke, the acting Director of Homeland Security, added insult to injury by calling the situation a “good news story.”

This morning on CNN’s New Day, San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz took the Drumpf administration to task for their insensitivity.

The segment began when host Alisyn Camerota played a clip of Elaine Duke’s comments, where she said,

“I’m very satisfied.

I know it’s a hard storm to recover from, but the amount of progress that’s been made – and I really would appreciate any support that we get.

I know that it is really a good news story in terms of our ability to reach people, and the limited number of deaths that have taken place in such a devastating hurricane.”

Mayor Cruz took a moment to reply, visibly confused and emotional after hearing the comments

Then she responded:

‘Well, maybe from where she’s standing it’s a good news story. When you’re drinking from a creek, it’s not a good news story. When you don’t have food for a baby, it’s not a good news story. When you have to pull people down from their buildings because — I’m sorry, but that really upsets me, and frustrates me.

I would ask her to come down here and visit the towns, and then make a statement like that. Which, frankly, is an irresponsible statement, and at contrast with the statements of support that I’ve been getting since yesterday when I got that call from the White House.

‘Damn it, this is not a good news story!

This is a ‘people are dying’ story. This is a ‘life or death’ story.

This is a “there’s a truckload of stuff that cannot be taken to people’ story.

This is a story of devastation that continues to worsen, because people are not getting food and water. If I could scream it a lot more loudly – it is not a good news story when people are dying when they don’t have dialysis; when their generators aren’t working and their oxygen isn’t providing for them.

The discovery of Donald Drumpf Jr.’s controversial meeting with Russians in June 2016 has turned up the existence of interesting phone calls the ‘so-called president’’s son had with a Russian go-between after getting an invitation to meet on opposition research they supposedly had on Hillary Clinton.

In sum, the June 2016 meeting has become the focal point, at least for now, of investigation into possible cooperation between the Russians and the Drumpf campaign and into obstruction of that investigation, which if Donald Drumpf Jr. testified falsely, continues to the present.

And let’s not forget that both of those lines of inquiry require investigation of Drumpf’s finances.

Former Drumpf adviser Roger Stone believes a civil war would ensue if Congress impeaches Donald Drumpf.

Speaking to TMZ at the Los Angeles International Airport on Wednesday, August 22, Stone was asked what he believes would happen if Congress moves to strip Drumpf of his power.

“The people who are calling for his impeachment are the people who didn’t vote for him. They need to get over it. They lost. Their candidate had every advantage,” he said, pointing out that the Hillary Clinton campaign spent $2 billion dollars compared to the Drumpf campaign’s $275 million.

“Sorry, he whipped her a$$. It’s over. You lost,” Stone said.

“Try to impeach him. Just try it.

You will have a spasm of violence in this country, an insurrection, like you’ve never seen.”
