A Puerto Rican Moment …. “It Happens …. What, no pernil?”!!

SAY WHAT??

Pernil (pernil asado, pernil al horno, roast pork butt), a slow-roasted marinated pork shoulder. In Puerto Rico the dish is commonly shared during Christmas, typically accompanied by arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas).

The pork shoulder is used as a whole piece, with skin and bone. It is marinated the day prior to roasting with sofrito, salt, pepper plus possibly additional spices (oregano, adobo). Sofrito are placed deeply within the meat through small cuts.

After marination the covered meat is slowly roasted initially in the oven for several hours, and, in the final phase, at a higher temperature with the cover off to get the skin crispy. When finished, the meat “falls off the bone”, and the crispy skin (cuerto) is separated, cleared of fat, and can be served separately as cueritos (skin chips).

To start the day …. “Sheep in The Island, #1″!!

SHEEP IN THE ISLAND, #1

A short, animated film for adults. Not really for children.

Two ships collide in the middle of nowhere and sink in the ocean. An island can be seen nearby.

Two boxes make it safely to shore.

There’s one very hungry sheep who was in one of the boxes. She successfully makes it out of her box and finds a fork. She will use it, by all means. There’s no doubt about it.

She initially finds a frog which she quickly “terminates”.

Her sights are then on the other box.

It is here, that the action starts.

There’s a third box approaching the Island.

Wonder what it could have in it?

In the meantime, the scene switches to a dinning table.

Tuesday is a day of the week occurring after Monday and before Wednesday.

Tiw was equated with Mars in the interpretatio germanica, and the name of the day is a translation of Latin dies Martis.
