ONE YEAR AGO TODAY

I can’t believe how fast time flies.

A year ago we received the news of Prince passing.

He was found in Paisley Park, lifeless.

Many theories were presented, many half truths, many rumors.

No matter the reason, a huge musical giant, an amazing musician, a masterful influence was gone.

He crossed his ‘Purple Bridge”.

And left his many fans behind!

From a Facebook Member, Josie Fletcher … had to share!
Prince isn’t dead … he just hopped on his “Little Red Corvette” … with his “Raspberry Beret” … drove off through the “Purple Rain“, over “Graffiti Bridge” … under the “Cherry Moon“, partying like it’s “1999” … because this is what happens “When Doves Cry“!!

A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT

It’s almost going to be one month that Prince, the Purple One, the Artist, crossed the veil into the “other side”.

It seems like a lifetime.

As days have gone by, I keep finding out more information about him. I’ve bought the recent magazines, followed groups on Facebook and read a lot about him.

I’m learning many things that I didn’t know.

I’m realizing more and more that his death is a huge loss to all of those who followed his career, all of those whose lives he touched and for all humans on this Earth.

I found this video through one of the Facebook groups .

It’s not the best quality but, even so, you can’t miss his huge talent.

M’ lord!! He was a dynamo!

This performance is explosive, impressive and mind-blowing.

Sadness engulfs me, the more I learned about Prince.

Amazing, multi-talented, energetic, infectious, vibrant, alive, dynamic!!

Godspeed!!

Watch Prince Define Funk In This Outrageous 1987 Concert Film

Back in 1987, Prince put together a concert film to follow his tour entitled Sign ” ☮” the Times, the symbol of peace being a dedication of hope to the depressing state of the world. Originally intended to use footage from a live concert in the Netherlands, the quality was deemed unsatisfactory by Prince and therefore was entirely re-shot at his own Paisley Park Studios.

The album’s music draws on funk, soul, psychedelic pop, and rock music and features keyboardist Boni Boyer, bassist Levi Seacer, Jr., guitarist Miko Weaver, drummer Sheila E., dancer Cat Glover,  and former member of The Revolution keyboardist Dr. Fink.

Check out the video for “It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night,” featuring an epic drum break and some incomparable dance moves from Prince himself, as well as some astonishing performances from his stellar band.

The month of September ……

Image

The month of September ......

….. after remembering today, this unforgettable day for America
….. after all the memorials, reflections, prayers ….

At memorials and in their schools, homes, and places of work across the country on Wednesday morning, Americans paused to remember those lost in the Sept. 11 attacks that shook the nation 12 years ago.

At 8:46 a.m. EST, crowds gathered at the site of the Twin Towers in New York City observed a moment of silence marking when the first plane crashed in the city’s downtown. President Barack Obama joined by the Vice President and First Lady also marked the moment on the lawn of the White House.

The president later observed a moment of silence at the Pentagon to mark the time at which Flight 77 struck the building, joined by Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel and Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey.”

****Without any desire to lessen its meaning, I feel that we need a little bit of lightness, because life does go on!!!

…. in memory of those who lost their lives, those who remain behind, have to carry on!!!

Earth, Wind & Fire is an American band that has spanned the musical genres of R&B, soul, funk, disco, jazz and rock.

They are one of the most successful and critically acclaimed bands of the twentieth century. Rolling Stone has described them as “innovative, precise yet sensual, calculated yet galvanizing” and has also declared that the band “changed the sound of black pop”.

Also known as EWF, the band was founded in Chicago by Maurice White in 1969. Other members have included Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Ralph Johnson, Larry Dunn, and Al McKay. The band has received 20 Grammy nominations; they won six as a group and two of its members, Maurice White and Bailey, won separate individual awards.

Earth, Wind & Fire have 12 American Music Awards nominations and four awards. They have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and sold over 90 million albums worldwide.

Five members of Earth, Wind & Fire were also inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame: Maurice White, Philip Bailey, Verdine White, Larry Dunn and Al McKay. The music industry and fans have bestowed Lifetime Achievement honors from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award – 2002), NAACP (Hall of Fame – 1994) and the BET Awards (Lifetime Achievement Award – 2002).

Earth, Wind & Fire is known for the dynamic sound of their horn section, their energetic and elaborate stage shows, and the interplay between the contrasting vocals of Philip Bailey’s falsetto and Maurice White’s tenor. The kalimba (African thumb piano) is played on all of the band’s albums.

In the 1970s and early 1980s, the band had many hits, including “Shining Star”, “That’s the Way of the World”, “Devotion”, “Reasons”, “Sing a Song”, “Can’t Hide Love”, “Getaway”, “Fantasy”, “Love’s Holiday”, “September”, “Boogie Wonderland”, “After the Love Has Gone”, and “Let’s Groove”. Two Earth, Wind & Fire classic songs have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame: “That’s the Way of the World” (2004) and “Shining Star” (2007).

The band is also known as having been the first African-American act to sell out Madison Square Garden and to receive the MSG Gold Ticket Award. President Barack Obama invited Earth, Wind & Fire to perform at the White House for the first social event of the new administration.
