LGBTQ Americans Won’t Be Counted in 2020 U.S. Census After All

LGBTQ advocacy groups are outraged after proposed questions regarding sexual orientation and gender identity were quickly removed Tuesday, March 28, from a just-released draft of the 2020 U.S. Census.

The U.S. Census Bureau, which is part of the Department of Commerce, is required to issue a list of categories it plans to track three years before the survey is conducted.

Advocacy groups have been campaigning for years to include questions about sexual orientation and gender identity, and were briefly elated when the 2020 Census draft was released. But hopes were dashed when the proposed addition suddenly disappeared, and a statement was issued by the Census bureau that called the LGBTQ inclusion a mistake.

By this time, I suspect, most of the country is aware of the decision made by the current administration.

This is  a thorny topic.

I’m aware that some aren’t capable of understanding the ripple effect after such a decision.

Trae Crowder does an awesome job in bringing this reality to the level of many who don’t get it.

The states’ rights argument is particularly shitty in this case, because the crux of that argument is you can choose to live in a state that reflects your personal values, but if you’re a transgender teenager in Montgomery, you can’t just uproot and leave Alabama because the fat dip-shit two lockers down from you is afraid of the future.

That ain’t how it works!
As he suggests, right-wingers always have a new group to hate on, and they keep at it until it starts to hurt their own numbers. All the more reason to hammer home the fact that conservative Christianity is now synonymous with bigotry.

And Christians who are silent or supportive of them are complicit in the problem.

TIP OF THE ICEBERG

Who could use which bathroom was always only a distraction … something to keep attention away from all the truly damaging things contained in North Carolina’s HB2.

The right of local jurisdictions to set their own minimum wage?

Gone

The right for employees to directly sue their employer for discrimination?

Gone

The right to not be discriminated against because of your sexual orientation?

Gone

The right to file a civil action against the contents of this law?

“No person may bring any civil action based on the public policy expressed herein.”

Gone

There is so much to be outraged about in this bill, in so many bills that pass through our state houses. Bathroom privileges are the tip of the iceberg, designed to attract our attention away from the truly destructive power that lies beneath the surface.

They retracted the suing for discrimination and because of sexual orientation, but that was all.

The rest stayed and that is why the whole thing needs to be retracted.

There is a sign on the NC/SC line that states
