~DRUMPF GETS BURNED~

Drumpf is a national embarrassment who never should have been allowed to run for the presidency to begin with. His antics during the campaign and after have divided the country and turned us into an laughingstock around the world.

“The Race” begins with the campaign, takes us to the depressing election, and concludes with the aftermath and what should be done to rid our country of Drumpf.

14-year-old Owen Pallenberg wrote a poem all about Drumpf’s campaign and his various antics at the time and in the present day.

THE RACE

A man and a woman were running a race.

The man dressed in red with a very orange face,

And the woman dressed in blue with a pantsuit and a briefcase.

The race was much longer than a dash, mile or marathon,

And to many Americans it felt like it went on and on.

This was a race of old and new ideas and one thought,

And so the race started with the sound of a gunshot.

The woman dressed in blue was off to a great start,

She was gaining support and was eager to do her part.

However the man in the red was racist and sexist I’m sure you would agree,

He even said he wanted to grab a woman by her …

As the competitors turned the corner you got a glimpse of the fans,

And you could hear in the distance a chant about a man with small hands.

He claimed his hands and feet were quite big,

All while having a bright orange spray tan and a big yellow wig.

About halfway through the race the man was falling behind,

And the supporters of the woman were happy to have saved mankind.

As the competitors were nearing the finish line,

The people in blue were already celebrating and drinking their wine.

The woman approached the finish with a big, wide grin,

But then something happened that seemed to be the work of Vladimir Putin.

The woman fell down and lost her lead,

The win began to feel a lot less guaranteed.

The man hurdled over her body and crossed the finish,

And we all knew our Nation’s reputation would certainly diminish.

The man had somehow done it, he actually won,

The supporters in blue sat in shock and ceased all of their fun.

The man was apparently going to Make America Great Again with his campaign,

And the woman was depressed and had to put away her celebratory champagne .

The results of this race tore apart our land,

As millions of Muslims were immediately banned.

This man can do absolutely no good,

Except run his mouth and claim he was just misunderstood.

The man has stated “we need global warming” for all to hear,

Which has made me quite certain that the end is near.

He has called women ugly and fat,

Which has left me wondering how he could have won the race and done all that.

After insulting and making fun of men and women nationwide,

I’ve become mortified, horrified, and have lost my American pride.

Everytime he talks or makes a speech,

All I can say is impeach, impeach, impeach.

Now we just have to wait until Drumpf becomes the first president to attack a 14-year-old kid.

That would be a new low.

2016: A ROUGH YEAR

Unless anyone’s residence is under a rock (not for 365 days), we all know how rough this year has been.

As years come to an end, there’s usually the perennial hope that the new one will bring good tidings and better things than the one that just ended.

However, it’s my personal belief that, we are in for a rougher ride in 2017 and beyond.

I really hope that I’m proven so wrong.

These lost lives can’t be replaced.

They will live in history and in the memory of our generation.

Dignity and self-respect can’t be replaced either and it will be much harder to recover.

CREATE A WORLD

What Nature Suffers

Open drainage systems.

Human begins do not realize
Struggling and surviving human prefers

One day, Nature will surely suffer.

Factories & industries releases harmful gases,
Unaware human being still careless
What will happen to the world?
This is my concern for tomorrow’s world.

Increasing automobiles on rise
release dangerous carbon mono-oxide ,
contributing pollution in day to day life
Spoiling nature, destabilizing life,

Let rise to occasion and minimize the pollution,
Save the nature and avoid congestion,
If nature continue to suffers,
Generation next shall curse their mentors.

Let’s pledge, not to play with nature more,
Plant more trees, save pollution and be assured,
Nature will pay back all the dividends,
Giving generation next, a healthy and safe land.

At the end of the day …. “Waiting on the World to Change”!!

I was driving home this afternoon, taking my time, listening to the music on the radio and this song started playing. I know it’s a song that was a hit for John Mayer a while ago. However, I was listening to the words this time. 

The lyrics brought home to me that many are aware of what is really going on in this world. It made me wonder where will the spirit to bring change about come from. 

I’m on the way out. I’m a baby boomer, my generation has done all that could be done when the time arose. Change was affected then. However, rather than advance, our society has gone back in time. 

Now, it’s the time for the new generation. 

The song’s theme centers on the singer and his generation’s inaction in regard to current world conditions. However, he attributes this inaction to a lack of power:

Now we see everything that’s going wrong
With the world and those who lead it
We just feel like we don’t have the means
To rise above and beat it

He also laments the corruption among leaders:

One day our generation
Is gonna rule the population
So we keep on waiting
Waiting on the world to change

John Mayer confirmed this feeling of discontent between the leaders and that led to an interview with The Advocate, explaining the song this way: “It’s saying, ‘Well, I’ll just watch American Idol because I know that if I were engaged in changing anything for the better, or the better as I see it, it would go unnoticed or be completely ineffective.’ A lot of people have that feeling.” Even so, the song alludes to hope for the future, with the singer intoning that with his generation’s ascension to power, things will change:

It’s not that we don’t care,
We just know that the fight ain’t fair

Politics was a topic that Mayer had not previously tackled. On his decision to include a politically tinged song, he commented, “You cannot avoid war in life, you cannot avoid the fear of terrorism, you cannot avoid those things now, they are a part of everyday demeanor. So in that sense it’s become more of an acceptable thing to comment on because it’s just so much of a white elephant.”

If all you’ve got is a hammer, then everything starts to look like a nail. And if police and prosecutors are your only tool, sooner or later everything and everyone will be treated as criminal. This is increasingly the American way of life, a path that involves “solving” social problems (and even some non-problems) by throwing cops at them, with generally disastrous results. Wall-to-wall criminal law encroaches ever more on everyday life as police power is applied in ways that would have been unthinkable just a generation ago.

~~Criminalizing Immigration~~

The past decade has also seen immigration policy ingested by criminal law. According to another Human Rights Watch report — their U.S. division is increasingly busy — federal criminal prosecutions of immigrants for illegal entry have surged from 3,000 in 2002 to 48,000 last year. This novel application of police and prosecutors has broken up families and fueled the expansion of for-profit detention centers, even as it has failed to show any stronger deterrent effect on immigration than the civil law system that preceded it. Thanks to Arizona’s SB 1070 bill, police in that state are now licensed to stop and check the papers of anyone suspected of being undocumented — that is, who looks Latino. Meanwhile, significant parts of the US-Mexico border are now militarized (as increasingly is the Canadian border), including what seem to resemble free-fire zones. And if anyone were to leave bottled water for migrants illegally crossing the desert and in danger of death from dehydration, that good Samaritan should expect to face criminal charges, too. Intensified policing with aggressive targets for arrests and deportations are guaranteed to be a part of any future bipartisan deal on immigration reform.

As for the Internet, for a time it was terra nova and so relatively free of a steroidal law enforcement presence. Not anymore. The late Aaron Swartz, a young Internet genius and activist affiliated with Harvard University, was caught downloading masses of scholarly articles (all publicly subsidized) from an open network on the MIT campus. Swartz was federally prosecuted under the capacious Computer Fraud and Abuse Act for violating a “terms and services agreement” — a transgression that anyone who has ever disabled a cookie on his or her laptop has also, technically, committed. Swartz committed suicide earlier this year while facing a possible 50-year sentence and up to a million dollars in fines.

As I read this, I think back to a time when I wasn’t aware of this. Before that time I thought that all was perfect. Ah, the blessing of ignorance or misinformation.

There was a time when I thought there were principles to follow, there were ethics to adhere to. There was a definite line between right and wrong.

Where did it all go? When did it all change? Was it always like this?

Was I naive and ignorant of the reality that surrounded me?

Doctors, lawyers, universities, government, press, religion, banks. 

All entities with power, all entities that have been entrusted with overseeing some sort of welfare of the masses.

When did it become corrupt?

Is there anyway to make it right again? 

I wonder …..

“…It’s NOT the greatest country in the world, Professor. That’s my answer.

Fine. Sharon, the NEA is a loser. Yeah, it accounts for a penny out of our paycheck, but he gets to hit you with it anytime he wants. It doesn’t cost money. It costs votes. It costs airtime. And column inches. You know why people don’t like liberals? Because they lose. If liberals are so fuckin’ smart then how come they lose so goddamn always?

And with a straight face, you’re gonna sit there and tell students that America is so star-spangled awesome that we’re the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom. Japan has freedom. The U.K. France. Italy. Germany. Spain. Australia. BELGIUM has freedom. Two hundred and seven sovereign states in the world, like, a hundred and eighty of them have freedom.

And you, Sorority Girl, just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there’s some things you should know. One of them is there’s absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we’re the greatest country in the world. We’re seventh in literacy. Twenty-seventh in math. Twenty-second in science. Forty-ninth in life expectancy. A hundred and seventy-eighth in infant mortality. Third in median household income. Number four in labor force and number four in exports. We lead the world in only three categories: Number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies.

Now none of this is the fault of a twenty-year-old college student, but you nonetheless are without a doubt a member of the worst, period, generation, period, ever, period. So when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world, I dunno what the fuck you’re talkin’ about.

Yosemite?

Sure used to be. We stood up for what was right. We fought for moral reasons. We passed laws, struck down laws, for moral reasons. We waged wars on poverty, not poor people. We sacrificed. We cared about our neighbors. We put our money where our mouths were. And we never beat our chest.

We built great big things, made ungodly technological advances, explored the universe, cured diseases, and we cultivated the world’s greatest artists and the world’s greatest economy. We reached for the stars. Acted like men.

We aspired to intelligence. We didn’t belittle it, it didn’t make us feel inferior.

We didn’t identify ourselves by who we voted for in the last election, and we didn’t, oh, we didn’t scare so easy. Ha. We were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were informed. By great men. Men who were revered. First step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one. America is not the greatest country in the world anymore. Enough?”
