The star of Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders’ Portland, Oregon rally wasn’t the Vermont senator.

A bird flew onto Sanders’ podium during his speech. The crowd went nuts.

“I know it doesn’t look like it, but that bird is really a dove asking us for world peace,” Sanders said. “No more wars.”

Sanders thought the interruption was symbolic.

Liberalism is a political philosophy or worldview founded on ideas of liberty and equality. The former principle is stressed in classical liberalism while the latter is more evident in social liberalism.

My views are liberal.

I strongly believe in helping others and the reality that we are part of a larger group called humanity.

We are all connected.

I can’t fathom the idea that anyone would leave other humans behind with the intention of becoming better, richer and higher than thou.

If I’m classified as a Democrat because of this, I’m fine with it.

Keep in mind, that in this country, the options are limited to two.

Therefore, when primary time comes around, I’ll be voting for Bernie.

Yet, if Hillary is the nominee, I vote for her.

The 2016 presidential campaign of Bernie Sanders, the junior United States Senator and former Congressman from Vermont, began with a formal announcement by Sanders on May 26, 2015, in Burlington, Vermont, which followed an informal announcement on April 30.

Sanders had been considered a potential candidate for President of the United States since at least September 2014.

Although Sanders is an independent, he caucuses with the Democratic Party in the Senate, as many of his views align with those of Democrats, and he has confirmed that he is running as a Democrat.

The Indiana law is modeled after the 1993 federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act, but unlike the federal law, which only bars the government from placing a substantial burden on the free exercise of religion, Indiana’s version applies to businesses and private individuals as well. In the wake of dozens of court decisions legalizing same-sex marriage across the country and with the Supreme Court scheduled to rule on the issue in June, such measures have cropped up in dozens of states. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed a similar measure last year.

In a report, LGBT-rights group Human Rights Campaign outlined the danger posed by these “super RFRAs”: “These bills are often incredibly vague and light on details — usually intentionally,” the report reads. “In practice, most of these bills could empower any individual to sue the government to attempt to end enforcement of a non-discrimination law.”

Pence, on the other hand, maintains that the bill would not sanction discrimination. “This bill is not about discrimination, and if I thought it legalized discrimination in any way in Indiana, I would have vetoed it,” the governor said in a statement.

The Saudi Arabian Army, also called Royal Saudi Land Force, is a branch of the Saudi Armed Forces. The total number of active troops is estimated to be 150,000.

The Chief of the Saudi General Staff until 2011 was Field Marshal Saleh Al-Muhaya.

~History~

1923 is considered to be the birth year of the Saudi Army, as the modern Saudi Arabia have been Unified and founded as a single state. After the discovery of oil and the meeting between King Abdulaziz and the American President Franklin D. Roosevelt on February 14, 1945, the Americans became the new major ally of Saudi Arabia.

Other events that led to an expansion of the Saudi Army were the Arab-Israeli conflict in 1948, the fall of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi in the Iranian Revolution in 1979 and the subsequent fears of possible Shia’s actions and in the last years the first Gulf War in 1990.

In the year 2000, Saudi Arabia’s government spent billions of dollars to expand the Saudi Forces including the Saudi Army.

Congress, Public Waking Up To Trans-Pacific Partnership Threat

Members of Congress are starting to pay attention to the upcoming, secretly-negotiated Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) “trade” agreement that isn’t really about trade. And the public is also becoming aware that this runaway job-loss express train is coming straight at us.

Not Really A “Trade’ Treaty”

The TPP agreement is being negotiated — in secret, even from Congress — between representatives of governments and giant, multinational corporations. (Government negotiators are not prevented from seeking lucrative corporate jobs if negotiations are completed in favor of those corporations.)

Groups representing the interests of labor, environmental, consumer, human rights or other stakeholders in democracy are not at the negotiating table. And, not surprisingly, it appears that the agreement will promote the interests of giant, multinational corporations over the interests of labor, environmental, consumer, human rights or other stakeholders in democracy.

Negotiated in secret, what we know about the treaty comes from leaks. Only a few of the “chapters” of the agreement are actually about “trade” at all. The rest are about the “rights” of corporations and investors. Negotiated just as the worldwide democracy uprising threatens to reign in corporate interests, the agreement will limit governments’ ability to write banking regulations, energy policy, food safety standards and even government purchasing decisions. It will allow corporations and investors to sue governments for lost profits if the governments try to make and enforce environmental, labor and other laws.

Congress Waking Up

The corporations are asking Congress to pass “Fast Track” Trade Promotion Authority. This would mean Congress yields its authority and duties under the Constitution, and just has a rushed up-or-down vote on whatever is presented to them. So this will be about which legislators the giant corporations own, and which they do not. (Of course this vote will occur during a major corporate-funded PR campaign that will rival the propaganda “run-up” to the Iraq war vote.)

Some members of Congress are circulating letters opposing “Fast Track” Trade Promotion Authority and are getting plenty of signatures from the “left” and the “right.”

In June 2/3 of newly-elected Democratic members of Congress warned against passing “Fast Track.” Also in June 230 members of Congress signed a letter asking that TPP address currency manipulation.

Last year many members of Congress signed letters objecting to the secrecy of the negotiations.

President Obama vetoes Keystone XL pipeline

Nearly two weeks after Congress approved the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, President Obama has officially vetoed the bill calling for its construction, stating that the project is not in the national interest. The decision follows a clear statement from the White House last month saying the president would not sign the bill into law if Congress, currently controlled by Republican lawmakers, passed it.

The proposed Keystone XL pipeline is a 1,179-mile pipe that would carry 830,000 barrels of crude oil from Canadian oil sands to oil refineries on the Gulf Coast of Texas. The cost of the project has ballooned to $8 billion since it was first proposed in 2008, and though an earlier Keystone bill died in the Senate last year, the Republican-controlled Congress passed it this January.

Supporters say that the pipeline would create jobs and reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil.
