As a proud senior member of the LGBTQ community, as well as a once member of the Catholic Church, this reaction doesn’t surprise me at all.

I commend this little girl and her parents.

They are accepting and embracing of a young girl who would be having a hard time if all reacted like the members of the church she happens to belong to.

MORMON CHURCH COMMUNITY

Twelve-year-old Savannah stood before her Mormon church community last month and told them she identifies as a lesbian and believes that God intended to make her that way.

Unfortunately, she was cut off part of the way through her speech by a church official who asked her to sit down, effectively silencing the preteen as she attempted to share her story.

Prior to being interrupted, Savannah offered her powerful and heartwarming personal account about her relationship with her sexuality.

“God loves me just this way, because I believe that he loves all his creations … I do believe he made me this way on purpose,” she says in the video.

“No part of me is a mistake.

I do not choose to be this way, and it is not a fad.

I cannot make someone else gay and being around me won’t make anyone else this way. I believe that God wants us to treat each other with kindness, even if people are different.”

Heather went on to say that Savannah had been asking to share her story in front of the church since last January to possibly let other closeted church members know that they had in ally in her.

THE CLOSET DOOR WAS DESTROYED

The LGBT community has existed since the early days of time.

It wasn’t called that back then.

Great advances were made during the Obama administration which gave our community a sense of equality.

Many came before us who sacrificed to lead us to where we are now.

Harvey Milk was one of the many.

There are also plenty of heroes whose names aren’t know.

With rumors of executive orders coming our way, we mus remain vigilant and ready to stand for our God-given rights as equal human beings.

Not going back into the closet.

Harvey Bernard Milk (May 22, 1930 – November 27, 1978) was an American politician who became the first openly gay person to be elected to public office in California, when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

Politics and gay activism were not his early interests; he was not open about his homosexuality and did not participate in civic matters until around the age of 40, after his experiences in the counterculture of the 1960’s.

We continue to see the hate, bigotry, xenophobia that has been a product of the presidential candidate for the GOP.

Advances have been made in many of the social issues that have been in contention for many years.

This is one that touches me very personally.

Too close for comfort.

There’s no way that I can stand with this particular ‘man’.

I know my choice!

My main concern now is what could happen after November 8th.

Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore suspended over same-sex marriage order

(September 30, 2016)

Alabama’s chief justice Roy Moore was suspended without pay Friday, September 30,  for the rest of his term for directing probate judges to enforce the state’s ban on same-sex marriage.

The state Court of the Judiciary, in a 50-page decision, cited Moore’s “disregard for binding federal law” as a reason for the suspension.
Moore’s administrative order to probate judges was issued in January – seven months after a landmark Supreme Court ruling legalized gay and lesbian nuptials nationwide.
Moore’s term runs through January 2019.

He is 69 and will be ineligible to run for re-election because of his age.

Friday’s ruling also cited Moore’s “history with this court,” saying it was the second time he had been brought before the judiciary court for “actions grossly inconsistent with his duties as Chief Justice.”

PRIDE FLAG FLIES IN SPACE

The universe is now LGBT-friendly!

Planting Peace’s latest display of solidarity with the queer community involves a Pride flag, a high altitude balloon and a GoPro camera.

The group, which regularly launches social activism campaigns to raise awareness about issues like LGBT rights and de-worming children in developing countries, used the balloon to elevate a rainbow flag up through the Earth’s atmosphere.

It eventually reached its peak altitude approximately 21.1 miles above the planet.

The flag remained airborne, floating in outer space for just over three hours before making its descent back to Earth, in what Planting Peace says is a symbolic declaration of the universe as an LGBT-friendly space.

“It was an honor to send the first Pride flag into space, and it provided a wonderful opportunity to show that Planting Peace will not stop fighting for LGBTQ rights until all sexual and gender minorities experience full, fundamental rights in every corner of the universe.”

“The backdrop of space gave us a stunning, inspiring and peaceful canvas for our message of hope to our LGBTQ family.

I would love for LGBTQ children who are struggling to see this, and look up to the stars and remember that the universe shines brightly for them, and they are not alone.”

Aaron Jackson, President of Planting Peace, told The Huffington Post.

Over the last three years, Planting Peace has engaged in a number of high-profile displays of LGBT visibility and activism.

The nonprofit created The Equality House, a rainbow-colored building across the street from the Westboro Baptist Church compound in Topeka, Kansas, in 2013 and purchased another home nearby earlier this year to create the Transgender Pride House.

These houses stand in opposition to the Church’s hate ― both literally and figuratively ― and operate as safe spaces for queer people in the area.

It’s been three long months.

It seems like an eternity ago.

Tributes continue to surface.

Sia has released a song Sia featuring Kendrick Lamar.

It’s powerful.

I’m sharing it today, on the 3rd month after the Orlando tragedy.

Hoping this event doesn’t get lost amid all the current events our society is continually going through.

On June 12, 2016, a heartless man, killed 49 people and wounded 53 others in a terrorist attack/hate crime inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, United States.

He was shot and killed by Orlando Police Department (OPD) officers after a three-hour standoff. Pulse was hosting Latin Night and most of the victims were Latino.

It was the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter, the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in United States history, and the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since the September 11 attacks in 2001.

“The Greatest” is a song by Sia featuring Kendrick Lamar

The single was released on 6 September 2016 through Monkey Puzzle Records and RCA Records as the lead single from her upcoming eighth studio album, We Are Your Children. The song was written by Sia alongside Greg Kurstin, who produced the song with AJ Santos also known as Yektro.

The video for the single features dancer Maddie Ziegler, and was directed by Daniel Askill for Radical Media.

Jessica Goodman from Entertainment Weekly found the chorus “massive and catchy.” Once the critics had picked up on the song’s connection with the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, Spencer Kornhaber of The Atlantic wrote:

Making pop about a specific tragedy is necessarily a tricky job. So it’s no crime that some of the other mainstream original songs memorializing Orlando have been as rote as issue-oriented singles are often stereotyped as being. But “The Greatest” is very potent, a work of art, not charity.There’s no break here from the rest of Sia’s catalogue about pain and release in everyday life: You hear a sad voice wailing about bucking up, very stark emotional peaks and valleys, and a danceable backing of explosive drums, toy-box melodies, and reggae grooves.

Sia and Greg Kurstin may have written the song even before the massacre. But in the context of Orlando, the possible platitude of the chorus becomes gutting:
