Everyone knows the John Lennon song, “Imagine” – but Pentatonix puts their own spin on it with a powerful message that everyone can take to heart! Their voices, coupled with the moving lyrics first penned by Lennon in May 1971, come together to make a rendition of the song that everyone should hear at least once in their life!

Lennon’ inspiration for “Imagine” came about when he tried to envision a world with only peace, and without the division among all people.

The song was released later that year in October, and it was an instant hit.

THE RED CUP THAT WON’T GO AWAY

According to Starbucks, the holiday cup began in 1997 with a “jazz-themed design in jewel tones of deeper reds, greens and blues.” Each year since then, the coffee giant’s holiday cups return, and have become a corporate tradition in the process.

The cups make the transition from plain white to holiday-themed in November; this year they changed over on November 3.

Ellen’s Hilarious Response to the Red Cup Controversy

Over the weekend, Starbucks introduced new plain red “holiday” cups, which prompted some serious backlash from people who called the move part of the “War on Christmas” in America, and an overall assault on Christianity. It raised such a controversy that even presidential candidate Donald Trump addressed it.

Comedian Ellen Degeneres also had something to say about the holiday cups during the airing of “Ellen,” on Tuesday, November 10, 2-15.

“The old cups had snowflakes and santa’s sleigh and elves. You know, all the things you find in the Bible,” Ellen joked.

PROOF THAT THERE’S NO “WAR ON CHRISTMAS”

Starbucks released a statement addressing the controversy, saying in part that diversity and inclusion are important to the coffee company:

“Creating a culture of belonging, inclusion and diversity is one of the core values of Starbucks, and each year during the holidays the company aims to bring customers an experience that inspires the spirit of the season,” the statement from Starbucks continued.

“Starbucks will continue to embrace and welcome customers from all backgrounds and religions in our stores around the world.”

LOVE HAS NO LABELS

While the vast majority of Americans consider themselves unprejudiced, many of us unintentionally make snap judgments about people based on what we see — whether it’s race, age, gender, religion, sexuality, or disability. This may be a significant reason many people in the U.S. report they feel discriminated against.

Subconscious prejudice — called “implicit bias” — has profound implications for how we view and interact with others who are different from us. It can hinder a person’s ability to find a job, secure a loan, rent an apartment, or get a fair trial, perpetuating disparities in American society.

The Love Has No Labels campaign challenges us to open our eyes to our bias and prejudice and work to stop it in ourselves, our friends, our families, and our colleagues. Rethink your bias.

Most Americans agree that people should be treated respectfully and fairly. Yet many people in the United States still report feeling discriminated against. The reason might be that we’re actually discriminating unintentionally — we do 98% of our thinking in our subconscious mind.

And that’s where we collect and store implicit biases.

I'm originally from Puerto Rico. I was born in Santurce and raised in Rio Piedras. I currently live in Florida - since 1999. I have a doctorate degree in Medicine; completed in 1976. My Internal Medicine specialty was completed in 1979. Worked for Puerto Rico's health system until 1985. At this time, I'm happily retired after working for the federal government for almost 28yrs. I also worked for the government of Puerto Rico from 1979 through 1985 .... for a total of almost 40 years as a physician. I want to offer any knowledge that I have to anyone "out there" who is interested. My views are liberal in almost every sense. My knowledge is "eclectic" - a bit of everything. Music and reading are my passion. Blogging has also become a very interesting endeavor. Metaphysical topics attract me. I'm interested in news - reporting human issues like injustice, discrimination and abuse - the "wrongly" affected. My intention is to bring this knowledge to an understandable level and to help anyone in need. I'm open to questions and will answer them to the best of my ability.
