SYRIA’S WAR: CONVOLUTED AND COMPLICATED

SYRIA’S WAR IS A MESS

Back in April 8, 2017, I posted information about the war in Syria.

Ezra Klein, from Vox, narrated a video which explained the many factions, factors, countries and issues involved in the Syrian civil war which started in 2011 after the “Arab Spring“.

We know about the war raging within its borders.

We have seen the many refugees leaving and running into uncertain conditions about their travels and their eventual destination.

On April 7, 2017, the situation attracted a huge spotlight due to the launching of Tomahawk missiles by the United States, on a base in western Syria. The United States said was used to launch a chemical attack on April 4, 2017,which left nearly 100 people dead and hundreds more injured.

On 7 April 2018, a suspected chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma reportedly killed at least 70 people. On-site medics stated that exposure to chlorine gas and sarin nerve agent killed the victims. Several reports attributed the attack to the Syrian Army, which the Syrian Government and its allies disputed, either denying involvement or that a chemical attack had taken place at all.

Almost exactly to one year, the United States and European allies launched airstrikes on Friday night, April 13, 2018,  against Syrian research, storage and military targets as Drumpf sought to punish President Bashar al-Assad for a suspected chemical attack near Damascus last weekend that killed more than 40 people.

The video explains the many details, factions, alliances and ‘players’.

And to add to the mortal mix, Drumpf is now the ‘so-called Commander- in-Chief”.

Drumpf is celebrating a ten-year, $350 billion arms deal with Saudi Arabia he announced over the weekend during his visit in Riyadh; $110 billion of that figure will take affect immediately.

The US State Department said in a written statement that the arms package

The news about this “letter” has been circulating around cyberspace. I believe that the majority of Americans, whatever their ideologies are, would agree that this was done with the intent to sabotage any deals that the current administration is negotiating. 

There are many reasons to consider.

However, never before had such an action been recorded in the history of the Congress of the United States of America. I strongly believe that this sets a precedent for any future sitting president of this country. 

They are there because they were elected (so far). They aren’t there to enrich themselves, to lead this country astray or to play outside of the rules. This is a total lack of respect coming from the “c” of the government. They are not working for the people, they are working for themselves.

WASHINGTON — The fractious debate over a possible nuclear deal with Iran escalated on Monday, March 9, as 47 Republican senators warned Iran about making an agreement with President Obama, and the White House accused them of undercutting foreign policy.

In a rare direct congressional intervention into diplomatic negotiations, the Republicans signed an open letter addressed to “leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran” declaring that any agreement without legislative approval could be reversed by the next president “with the stroke of a pen.”

The letter appeared aimed at unraveling a framework agreement even as negotiators grew close to reaching it. Mr. Obama, working with leaders of five other world powers, argues that the pact would be the best way to keep Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb. But critics from both parties say that such a deal would be a dangerous charade that would leave Iran with the opportunity to eventually build weapons that could be used against Israel or other foes.

While the possible agreement has drawn bipartisan criticism, the letter, signed only by Republicans, underscored the increasingly party-line flavor of the clash.

Just last week, the Republican House speaker, John A. Boehner, gave Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel the platform of a joint meeting of Congress to denounce the developing deal, and Senate Republicans briefly tried to advance legislation aimed at forcing Mr. Obama to submit it to Congress, alienating Democratic allies.

Netanyahu Warns U.S. Against Iran Nuclear Deal

WASHINGTON, March 3 (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the United States on Tuesday against agreeing to a nuclear deal with Iran and working with a country “deeply rooted in militant Islam,” saying Tehran “will always be an enemy of America.”

“If the deal now being negotiated is accepted by Iran, that deal will not prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons – it will all but guarantee that Iran will get those nuclear weapons – lots of them,” he said.

In the most anticipated speech to the US Congress by a foreign leader in years, Netanyahu said Iran’s regime was “as radical as ever,” could not be trusted and the deal being worked out with the United States would not block Iran’s way to a bomb “but paves its way to a bomb.”
