Sculpture Coralarium Where Land, Sea and Art collide Fairmont Hotel, Sirru Fen Fushi, Maldives The Sculpture Coralarium is situated in the centre of the largest developed coral lagoon in the Maldives, on the island resort of Fairmont Sirru Fen Fushi.

The artwork by Jason deCaires Taylor is a semi-submerged tidal gallery space that exhibits a series of sculptural artworks on the skyline, inter-tidal waterline and seabed. As world’s first semi submerged tidal Art Gallery it is cube shaped, six metres tall, with its front façade submerged up to median tide of three metres.

The design of the walls is based on natural coral structures and is porous to allow the tides, current and marine life to pass through and the structure to “breathe” within its location.

Born in 1974 to an English father and Guyanese mother, Taylor grew up in Europe and Asia, where he spent much of his early childhood exploring the coral reefs of Malaysia. Educated in the South East of England, Taylor graduated from the London Institute of Arts in 1998 with a BA Honors in Sculpture and went on to become a fully qualified diving instructor and underwater naturalist.

With over 18 years diving experience under his belt, Taylor is also an award winning underwater photographer, famous for his dramatic images, which capture the metamorphosing effects of the ocean on his evolving sculptures.

RedLineBJason deCaires Taylor (born 12 August 1974 in Dover) is a British sculptor and creator of the world’s first underwater sculpture park – the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park – and underwater museum.

He is best known for installing site-specific underwater sculptures which develop into artificial coral reefs integrating his skills as a sculptor, marine conservationist, underwater photographer and scuba diving instructor.

His works in Grenada have been listed among the Top 25 Wonders of the World by National Geographic. His most ambitious projects to date are the creation of the world’s largest underwater sculpture museum, the Cancún Underwater Museum, situated off the coast between Cancún and Isla Mujeres, Mexico and Ocean Atlas (2014), a 5-metre tall, 60-ton sculpture off the Bahamas. Taylor is currently based on the island of Lanzarote, Spain, working on a major new underwater museum for the Atlantic Ocean.

RedLineBJason deCaires Taylor’s New Sculpture “Nest” Unveiled
By Ian Bongso-Seldrup, July 31, 2017

The new work by underwater sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor – called “Nest” – has been completed with the installation of the final figures.

The sculptor describes the work thus: “‘Nest’ creates a new habitat space, a nucleus of protection and support. The circular formation evokes time and continuum, an echo of the circle of life.”

Now open to the public, the new sculpture, which is comprised of 48 life-size human figures, is situated near the island of Gili Meno, one of the three Gili Islands found between Bali and Lombok.

It’s the first time that Taylor has situated a work in the Asia region; his sprawling masterpiece, “Museo Atlántico,” is located off the Spanish island of Lanzarote.

Commissioned by the luxury resort developer BASK, the new sculpture sits in just 13 feet of water, so it’s possible for snorkelers as well as divers to visit the installation.

Angelika’s songs …. “Timber”!!

AngelikaBlue

~~July 10, 2014~~

This is Angelika, my oldest grand-daughter, you may have seen her here a few times. She is 9 years old.

She loves music, as much as I do. She’s been keeping me up to date with some of the new songs that are coming out. She knows the songs but doesn’t know the performer most of the time. I’ve trying to teach her it’s important to also know who is singing. Very frequently, we use the “Shazam” app to identify the singer/band.

I created this series: Angelika’s Songs  to post here the new songs that she teaches me about.

Angelika went on a trip early this week. I spoke with her last night and she’s still listening for songs to educate me about. She gave me two new titles.

Will tell you about this one now.

Timber … Pitbull ft. Ke$ha

Pitb

Timber” is a song by American rapper Pitbull featuring American recording artist Kesha. The song was released on October 7, 2013, as the lead single from Pitbull’s extended play (EP) Meltdown. The song was produced by Dr. LukeCirkut, and Sermstyle, with additional production by Nick Seeley. The song interpolates “San Francisco Bay” (1979), by Danish harmonica player Lee Oskar of the band War), which was written by Lee Oskar, Keri Oskar, and Greg Errico.

Timber” features harmonica player Paul Harrington of RockwallTexas, who plays through the entire song. He was told to emulate Lee Oskar.

The song peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks, and has also topped the charts in many other countries, including Canada, where it has stood at number one for eight consecutive weeks, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Denmark.

~~Background and composition~~

Kesha had previously featured Pitbull on remixes of her songs “Tik Tok” and “Crazy Kids“. In an interview in December 2013, Pitbull said that Rihanna was originally meant to be the featured artist on “Timber“, but she had already been asked to be the featured artist on Shakira‘s “Can’t Remember to Forget You” and did not have time to record “Timber“.

Timber” is a dance-pop song that lasts three minutes and twenty four seconds. It contains country and folk influences. According to the sheet music music published at musicnotes.com, the song is set in common time with moderately fast tempo of 132 beats per minute.

The song is written in the key of G# minor and follows a chord sequence of G#m-B-F#-E. Kesha’s vocals span from G#3 to D#5.

If you notice, when Pitbull dives underwater, you can see this sculpture.

~~Mexico’s underwater museum~~

It’s not just flurries of brightly coloured fish that you’ll spot whilst swimming the warm, turquoise waters off the coast of Cancun.

Just a short kick of the flippers away from Mexico‘s famous diving spot, Manchones Reef, you’ll find a collection of over 400 underwater statues that comprise one of the world’s most unusual museums, the Cancun Underwater Museum.

The waters off the coast of Cancun are some of the best in the world. Jason Decaires Taylor, the artist behind the project, designed the sculptures from ph neutral clay in order to stimulate the growth of coral reef and marine life.
