To start the day …. Remembering my Dad today!

~~May 17, 2014~~

I was looking through the pictures on Facebook, trying to find inspiration about how to start my day. I saw this one and it spoke volumes to me, not that I ever did this that I can remember.

My Dad came to mind.

My Dad was a very special man. He wasn’t perfect, he was a human being. He came from a humble family who lived in Juncos, a small town in the east coast of Puerto Rico. He was a very hard working fellow who moved to New York City in the 1930’s. He met my mother there and they married.

He was the main provider and we didn’t lack anything. There were no major luxuries but the necessities were all met without fail.

I received an outstanding education from day one. I went to a private school from kindergarten through high school.

I went to a private university to complete my bachelor’s degree. Again, all via my Dad’s encouragement, funding and support. Upon graduation, I went to medical school and completed my degree.

He was always there, usually quiet and, at times, distant. But as I look back, as an adult, I can see and understand everything that he did for me without expecting anything in return.

The values that were imprinted by my Dad are and, will always be, with me.

I owe everything I am, everything I have to my Dad … in every sense of the word.

Thank you, I love and miss you!!
