In this blogging world, which I have been lucky enough to “traverse” through since I retired from my lifetime job, I have found incredible bloggers who definitely make this world a better place.  I’m here learning new things everyday related to every topic that you may think about. And this is all because of you.

“It Is What It Is” has received an award from one such amazing person.

As I sit at my PC and write words, attempt to put together a post, gather info, graphics and videos, I often wonder what the effects of my effort will be. I believe that this feeling may be shared my many who also blog.

Receiving any kind of award is always an honor. It’s always humbling. It’s always an eye opener in the sense that there IS someone out there who may “stumble” into this spot and find something that resonates with them and may even be helpful.

For this, I am very grateful.

Consider this my Christmas present to you.

To start the day …. “One”!!

This poem was written by a very special friend from Holland. Many of you know her. It’s “Just Patty“. In the time that I have been blogging, Patty has become an integral part of my life. We stay in touch frequently and interact in many way. She has become my “Lil Sister” and I have become her “Big Sister”.

Yesterday, she wrote a poem for MJ and me as a present for our special day.

Dear Patty, I have no words that can express the feelings in my heart when I saw this poem dedicated to us. Just know that it touched us deeply and made an impact in our day. This is priceless and will be a part of us forever.

“By now you should already noticed that I am a bit strange. But I can promise you, I am totally harmless! (most of the time…) Anyways, let me tell a bit more about me and my writings. I started writing poetry after my big brother died when I was 14 to find a way to express my feelings. But it wasn’t until 2013 when I started to actually publishing my poems on a blog. Before, I just never had the courage to share my deepest and mostly dark feelings with anyone. I was just writing to save my sanity. (can’t say that worked though).

But I got so much support that I started to write more and more. And I am loving it!

I have always being attracted to the more darker forms of poetry, I adore Edgar Allan Poe. Maybe because dark poetry seems to be more raw.  Before I started to write dark poetry, the darkness was already inside me. Always lurking right beneath the surface, waiting till I lost my strength so it could consume me.

Because I let it out now every once in a while by writing, I was able to tame the beast and be the person who I am today. Me, without restrictions or suppression. At the same time that I started to blog my poems, I also wrote a young adult fantasy novel which was published April, 2014, in Holland.

When I blogged about this, many of my friends asked me if I would also be publishing a poetry book. It made me think, would I dare to? Well, I never back down from a challenge, so I dared! Soon I will be publishing my very first poetry book called My Wings.

I have written this book under the name Just Patty.

Why the name ‘Just Patty’? Because writing poetry is a naked reflection of the heart and soul, nothing more and nothing less.

It’s Just Me without decorations.

‘Poetry is a way of showing your darkest thoughts and deepest feelings through the art of words. Listen to the music of your soul and let your pen dance on the rhythm.’

I illustrated this poetry book with some black & white photographic artwork made by me.

I always illustrate my poetry with photographic artwork that I make. I model for the photos myself, shoot them and edit them. It’s a great way to combine two of my favorite things!”

I’m lucky to have Patty as a very dear fellow blogger and more than that a very dear friend. She’s the “lil sis” I never had. 

I ordered her poetry book and I can say it’s amazing. I regret that I can’t read Dutch because her I’ve heard her adult fantasy book is beyond excellent. 

Get ready … because there will be more “Just Patty” heading your way!

I have the pleasure and the honor to know Patty personally. She’s a young, bright, talented upcoming photographer, poet and writer who has had some experiences in her life which have molded her as the strong person she is. In spite of this, she has continued to battle on this path that we call life. Out of this, she has used the feelings she has had … and, as a painter would to canvas, she uses the written word for expression. This book is an indicator of these experiences and feelings. The has a “light” side and a “dark” side, as we all do.

A great book for poem lovers!, April 7, 2014

I loved this book, beautiful writing, tasty art. This book is filled with poems, it also contains great photography. Patty does an amazing job with both volumes of her “light” and “dark” wings poetry. You can’t find this passion anywhere else.

Highly recommended read, 10/10!
You get an opportunity to see into her life, feel her emotions and walk with her down her path.
This is a book that you will read every page of, and enjoy it all!

I can only imagine even more great things coming from this author.
