Robert Reich threw out an idea to his nearly 1.7 million Facebook followers this week that has a lot of people asking: How do we make this happen?

In a Facebook post on Sunday, December 18, the former secretary of labor under President Bill Clinton noted the dearth of celebrities and musicians willing to participate in Donald Trump’s inauguration festivities.

Many supported Hillary Clinton.

So Reich is championing the idea that celebrities host an event of their own on Inauguration Day to give the official event, starring Trump, a run for the ratings.

“Someone just suggested to me a televised ‘freedom concert’ to air at the same time as the inauguration – with huge celebrities like Beyoncé and Jay Z, Madonna, Katy Perry, Justin Timberlake, Gaga, Bruce Springsteen, and so on,” Reich wrote.

“Alec Baldwin MC’s the event, playing Trump as he does on SNL.

“Presto.

The Trump inauguration loses all the TV ratings. Basically, no one watches it.”

Reich also suggested that such a concert could raise money for a variety of progressive causes, including “the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, Lambda Legal, NAACP, Common Cause, CAIR, IRAP, SPLC, Environmental Defense Fund, Human Rights Campaign Fund, MoveOn, Economic Policy Institute, Inequality Media, and GLAAD.”

His post inspired a Change.org petition that, as of Wednesday morning, had attracted nearly 44,000 signatures and dozens of supporters on Twitter.

~‘Pantsuit Power’ flashmob video for Hillary Clinton~

Two women, 170 dancers and no police

It came together in about a week.

First, the idea for a punchy, uplifting dance video that would tell a story about diversity, difference and communal support.

Then, 170 dancers, a few hours of rehearsals–and pantsuits.

Lots of pantsuits.

The result: the #Pantsuitpower Flashmob for Hillary dance video, performed at New York’s Union Square. It’s gotten nearly 2 million views on Facebook in a matter of days.

The video, accompanied by Justin Timberlake’s contagiously boppy disco-pop song “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” was posted on Facebook and Vimeo this week by Humanity for Hillary, a social media campaign aimed at artists, in support of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

“I wanted to bring some kind of humanity to her campaign, because I think humanity and love and humor tend to get lost when we’re in the heat of all of this,” says Celia Rowlson-Hall, 32, a New York-based choreographer who’s worked on HBO’s “Girls” and other TV shows and music videos.

She and her Washington, D.C.-based friend, hip-hop choreographer Crishon Landers, created the pantsuit dance, and Rowlson-Hall directed the video with her partner, Mia Lidofsky, an independent film producer.

The couple met on the set of “Girls.”

“We just felt the need to do something,” Rowlson-Hall says. “We thought, how can we creatively impact this election? So we made the video.”

There’s nothing like dance to convey enthusiasm and energy, so it’s a natural political tool. The fact that it’s rarely used to rally voters–and even more rarely used so well–is what makes this video feel so fresh. That, and the clarity of the choreography, the invigorating spirit and skill of the video’s massive chorus line, and the catchy tune.

Thirteen years after the original, the Black Eyed Peas call for peace, love, and unity once again with the re-imagined all-star version of their 2003 Elephunk single,

“Where’s the Love?”

Of course, the 2016 edition features BEP stars will.i.am, Fergie, apl.de.ap, and Taboo, but it also includes their famous friends such as Diddy, Cassie, Mary J. Blige, Jamie Foxx, Nicole Scherzinger, The Game, Snoop Dogg, Jessie J, Andra Day, Tori Kelly, Ty Dolla $ign, Usher, DJ Khaled, Jhené Aiko (and her daughter), Wiz Khalifa, LL Cool J, Usher, and Justin Timberlake, who appeared on the original as well.

The powerful black-and-white video stars the aforementioned artists, plus Kendall Jenner, Rosario Dawson, Alton Sterling’s aunt, Philando Castile’s mother, religious leaders, police offers, and a 40-member children’s choir.

“Overseas, yeah, they’re tryna stop terrorism / Over here, on the streets, the police shoot the people, put the bullets in ’em,” raps Diddy, while Khaled proclaims, “Love is the key!”

Inspired by recent tragedies, the Peas decided it was time to revive the track for a new generation.

“Millennials are powerful,” said will. “I don’t think they realize just how powerful they are. I hope this song inspires the millennials to go all out, scream from the tallest mountain, care like your freedom depends on it.

Pay attention like that is at risk.”

All proceeds from the sale of the song in the U.S. will be donated to will.i.am’s non-profit foundation, i.am.angel.

Michael Jackson Wanted To Collaborate With Lady Gaga

TECHNOLOGY AND FILM MADE IT POSSIBLE

It could have been one of the most bizarre musical hookups in pop history. According to a new interview with Michael Jackson’s choreographer, Travis Payne, the late King of Pop was a big fan of Lady Gaga and had tried to set up a meeting to discuss a possible joint project.

The revelation comes from a video posted on December 30 on YouTube by Amsterdam-based producer/actor Raffles van Exel, who asks Payne which artists MJ was interested in collaborating with before his death last June.

“I gave him a short wish list of possible collaborators and he was like, ‘Sure, they can all come, as long as their schedules permit and it’s not too much of a problem for them,’ ” Payne said of Jackson’s humble response to a suggestion that he reach out to other artists to work with him on his This Is It series of shows in London. “Of course, I suggested Janet, of course Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Mariah Carey we talked about. We talked about Missy Elliott. We talked about Usher, of course. We talked about Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion, Sting, Seal, Bono, Tina Turner. We talked about all these people that I thought were cool but that he liked.”

Then, Payne said he asked Jackson if there was anyone else he wanted to reach out to. “He goes, ‘Lady Gaga.’ I go, ‘Really?’ He goes, ‘Yeah.’ He’s the one who really got me to get into her. He literally told me, ‘You gotta get into her. She’s good.’ So, I started listening to her music more and going on YouTube and looking at her performances, and I was like, ‘He’s right.’ ”

Payne did not specify in the video when these conversations took place. He said that last November, he got a call from Lady Gaga and told her the story about the conversation with Jackson. “She got moved by it,” he recalled. A spokesperson for Gaga could not be reached for comment about Payne’s claims.
