President Obama Rejects Keystone XL Pipeline Proposal

The pipeline would carry about 800,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta to Gulf Coast refineries. Environmentalists worry about about the climate and environmental impacts the pipeline could have, including dramatically higher greenhouse gas emissions and a heightened risk of oil spills.

President Barack Obama announced Friday, November 6, 2015,  that he is rejecting the Keystone XL pipeline proposal, saying the project “would not serve the interests of the United States.”

The president cited concerns about the impact on the environment and a political climate that over-hyped the pipeline’s benefit.

President Obama vetoes Keystone XL pipeline

Nearly two weeks after Congress approved the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, President Obama has officially vetoed the bill calling for its construction, stating that the project is not in the national interest. The decision follows a clear statement from the White House last month saying the president would not sign the bill into law if Congress, currently controlled by Republican lawmakers, passed it.

The proposed Keystone XL pipeline is a 1,179-mile pipe that would carry 830,000 barrels of crude oil from Canadian oil sands to oil refineries on the Gulf Coast of Texas. The cost of the project has ballooned to $8 billion since it was first proposed in 2008, and though an earlier Keystone bill died in the Senate last year, the Republican-controlled Congress passed it this January.

Supporters say that the pipeline would create jobs and reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil.

The Keystone XL pipeline is awaiting a final decision from the State Department, which is unlikely to come before 2014. If built, the pipeline would carry about 800,000 barrels of oil per day from Alberta to Gulf Coast refineries. Environmentalists worry about about the climate and environmental impacts the pipeline could have, including dramatically higher greenhouse gas emissions and a heightened risk of oil spills.

The Kochs are known for their heavy investment in the tea party and their support for congressional inaction on climate change.

In the past, Koch Industries officials have said the Keystone XL pipeline has “nothing to do with any of our businesses.“

It’s happened.

The anti-climate House and the Senate have passed legislation to force through the Keystone XL Pipeline — all as a display of loyalty to the dirty fossil fuel industry.

Many representatives went even further by announcing they believe that humans do not contribute to climate change. It’s time to end this Big Oil lovefest and embrace the science:

KXL would be catastrophic for the climate.

The Keystone Pipeline System is an oil pipeline system in Canada and the United States.

It runs from the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin in Alberta, Canada to refineries in Illinois and Texas, and also to oil tank farms and oil pipeline distribution center in Cushing, Oklahoma.

~Obama will veto Keystone pipeline bill~

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday that President Obama will veto a bill to approve the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, which is expected to pass Congress next week.

Earnest said the White House’s position has not changed since it issued a veto threat of a similar bill in the previous Congress. “I can confirm for you that if this bill passes this Congress, the president wouldn’t sign it either,” he said Tuesday afternoon.

“There’s an important principle at stake here,” he added, citing the State Department’s administrative review procedure and the fact that a court in Nebraska has yet to rule on the pipeline’s route. “There’s a well established process that should not be undermined.”

Earnest said he could make the announcement of the veto threat today because the text of the legislation has been made public since the last time he discussed it.

The owners of Koch Industries, Charles and David Koch, will benefit if President Obama allows the Keystone XL Pipeline to be built. In recent years it has been reported that the Kochs hold up to 2 million acres in Alberta, could earn roughly $100 billion in profits from the project, and have spent more than $50 million on Congress and Think Tanks that heavily push for the pipeline.

Yet, the Kochs have repeatedly claimed that they have no interest in the Keystone XL Pipeline.

My Concerns are
Many think this OIL is for us. Wrong …. 98% is for export ONLY. While using the middle of our finest land. Many land owners and farmers will HAVE no choice on this and THEY have to do the major clean up if a spill. It clearly states that in the agreement.

So while this OIL is NOT for us? I ask you why we would even consider it? We are messing up our waters, so now we want to possibly destroyed our heartland?
Do home owners and land owners have NO rights?

I am pretty upset about this. I hope president Obama vetos this. Can he?
