HATRED PERSONIFIED

As I was looking through my Facebook Timeline a while ago, I found this “tiny morsel” of information that made me cringe.

I thought we had enough of that woman and here she pops in again.

Why?

Because of the lawyer that was with her through her “awful ordeal”.

Come to find out that he’s the founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, the conservative group behind Ms. Davis defense.

Why don’t I find this hard to believe?

First thought I have when SCOTUS ruled in favor of marriage equality:

This is just the beginning.

…. and here it is!

When hatred takes human form, it looks a lot like the founder and chairman of the Liberty Counsel Matthew Staver

You may recognize him as the lawyer for the infamous Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis who refused to do her job because her hatred was too big a burden to bear so she chose prison instead.

She just couldn’t stand the thought of two loving people of the same gender getting married, so she showed us just a taste of what was about come in terms of hating the LGBT community.

And she had Staver as her equally bigoted lawyer.

What’s come since Davis’ hissy fit has been a string of anti-LGBT bills disguised as “religious freedom” laws, and Staver is the man behind the hate nationwide. CBS News investigated and came to find out that it’s been Staver leading this zealous crusade.

From laws prohibiting transgender individuals from using the proper bathroom to allowing businesses the right to refuse service to the LGBT community, Staver has been there through it all.

Yet, he cleverly words his hatred as such:

 “It is only about being free to pursue your faith.

We have no interest in discriminating against anyone.”

No, Staver, the First Amendment already guarantees your freedom to pursue your faith, what you’re doing is helping states all across the nation write laws to specifically discriminate against LGBT individuals.

You are making it legal to deny service or evict tenants based on sexual orientation. This legislated hate is taking away the freedom of LGBT citizens to grant the freedom to legally discriminate to religious zealots afraid gay money has gay cooties.

And God forbid a transgender person needs to pee.

Oh, and get this, Staver doesn’t think businesses are really going to pull out of the states that have enacted these laws. He’s supposedly calling their “bluff.” He’s about to be in for a rude awakening, because being on the wrong side of history has never boded well for any bigot. His hatred for the gay community is bizarre. If he wants freedom, live and let live. It really can be that easy.

CBS News investigation finds Kim Davis’ lawyer behind anti-LGBT bills in 20 states

After governors in North Carolina and Mississippi recently signed laws limiting the rights of LGBT people, CBS News began investigating why so many anti-LGBT bills were cropping up in state legislatures around the country.

The network found that the conservative group Liberty Counsel had placed lawyers in all 50 states to draft legislation and advise lawmakers on how to rein in the rights of LGBT people in response to a Supreme Court ruling which legalized same-sex marriage in 2015.

CBS determined that bills tied to Liberty Counsel have been filed in at least 20 states so far.

“Well I certainly want to push back against that [same-sex marriage] ruling,” Liberty Counsel founder Matt Staver told CBS News. “It was a wrong ruling. It has no basis in the constitution.”

“The Supreme Court in the 5-4 opinion on marriage in 2015 lit the house on fire,” he added. “All we’re trying to do is control the fire at this point in time.”

Staver insisted that the bills were “about being free to pursue your faith,” and that his group had “no interest in discriminating against anyone.”

He also asserted that companies did not have the guts to go through with boycotts of states that enacted pro-discrimination legislation.

“They’re not gonna follow through,” he declared. “It’s a bluff. They’re not leaving.”

Lawmakers in several states are passing bills to protect those who cite religious beliefs for refusing to serve or employ people in the LGBT community. These bills began to crop up in state legislatures soon after the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage last year. As Dean Reynolds reports, the same group is behind most of the new legislation.

FRANCIS AND LGBT CATHOLICS

Pope Francis refused repeated requests to meet with LGBT Catholics but made time for a secret, closed-door meeting with the anti-gay Kentucky clerk who is not Catholic.

 I have shared several posts related to Kim Davis and her actions in Kentucky.

She hasn’t been a favorite of mine at all.

I’m a proud member of the LGBT community and married my partner of almost 40 years on January 6, 2015, the day after it became legal in the state of Florida.

Both of us are very grateful that our county clerk did her job and was very nice and pleasant about it.

I know from personal experience how her actions have made the people of her county feel.

Ms. Davis has been seeking the spotlight on the back of her religious beliefs.

She has attained notoriety through the political hacks who have gravitated to her for their own political weak gains.

It seems to me that she’s being used and she’s allowed it because she will also benefit from this in the name of “god’s authority”.

I’ve mentioned before that I was raised in the Catholic Church. My parents were very active in our church.

I was baptized when I was 6 days old.

I went to confession and had my first communion.

I went to Catholic school and college from kindergarten through high school.

I completed my college degree at a Catholic university.

Why do I mention all of this?

Because I know the significance in the Pope’s existence and his authority. I’m well aware of his “infallibility’.

Papal infallibility is a dogma of the Catholic Church that states that, in virtue of the promise of Jesus to Peter, the Pope is preserved from the possibility of error “When, in the exercise of his office as shepherd and teacher of all Christians, in virtue of his supreme apostolic authority, he defines a doctrine concerning faith or morals to be held by the whole Church.”

The fact that I felt this pope to be genuine, tolerant and all encompassing has been “destroyed”, in my humble opinion, because of this meeting and the support that he seems to have given to someone who has behaved in a criminal manner.

She’s refusing to do her job.

I’m not anyone fit to judge anyone but her past marriages and personal actions fall quite short from the behavior of a person of faith and religious beliefs.

I found an article in The Advocate which explains quite clearly why this secret meeting may “throw a wrench” in the major advances that have recently taken place in this country.

Again, I say, there’s no place for me in the Catholic church at all.

There’s no place for anyone on the LGBT community in the Catholic Church.

I’ve known it for a long time.

Now, it’s been confirmed, assured, accepted and internalized.

It’s OK.

This will be my last post on Ms. Kim Davis and Pope Francis.

Sorry, Mr. Pope, you did wrong here.

In a short action, you undid all the good that your visit generated …. in my book.

No more free promotion in my spot.

Activists who represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Catholics tell The Advocate they are concerned about now-confirmed reports of a meeting between Pope Francis and anti-gay Kentucky clerk Kim Davis, fearing that such a meeting could set back what little support there is for the disenfranchised faithful.

“The news that Pope Francis met with Kim Davis while failing to respond to repeated requests for dialogue with LGBT Catholics and their families will be deeply disappointing to many Catholics, gay, trans, and straight alike,” says Marianne Duddy-Burke, executive director of DignityUSA, in an email to The Advocate. “It put the weight of the Vatican behind the US Catholic bishops’ claims of victimization, and supports those who want to make it more difficult for same-sex couples to exercise their civil right to marriage.”

According to the Liberty Counsel‘s release, Francis met with Davis and her husband, Joe, Thursday at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C. The pope told Davis, “Thank you for your courage” and “stay strong,” and asked her to pray for him, and she in turn asked him to pray for her. He also presented the couple with rosary beads he had personally blessed.

The pope said little about marriage equality during his visit, but as New Ways Ministry‘s DeBernado mentioned, on the papal flight back to Rome Monday he said there is a “human right” to “conscientious objection,” even by government officials, when duties conflict with their religious beliefs.

“Though LGBT and ally Catholics have welcomed Pope Francis’ affirming remarks,  many, including me, have also remarked that he sometimes talks out of both sides of his mouth,” DeBernardo wrote in his email. “Moreover, while he is LGBT-positive in general ways, his remarks on specific moral and political issues are often at odds with his welcoming stance. The time for vagueness, ambiguity, and secret meetings is over. Pope Francis needs to state clearly where he stands in regard to the inclusion of LGBT people in the church and society.”

I has a sad.

I was raised Catholic but I’m not practicing that faith.

I’ve learned to be very cautious since my upbringing taught me how this Church works.

Their ideology behind the LGBT reality definitely shows that, in spite of other advances in their policies, they are still behind in time.

I must confess that I followed his visit to the USA.

I was enthralled by his presence.

His message in Congress, the UN and other venues were inspiring.

I found myself warming up to his presence.

Warning bells started during the Joint Meeting of Congress address when he mentioned the importance of family.

I should have listened to my “gut” then.

There’s no place in the Catholic Church for me.

I shouldn’t have let my hopes get the best of me.

His PR game is undoubtedly on fleek, but he’s still beholden to the same homophobic crap we know and love from the Catholic Church, the world’s most powerful supporter of impunity for priestly pedophiles.

During his U.S. visit, Pope Francis privately met with Kim Davis, the Rowan County, Kentucky, Clerk of Court who was jailed for five days for refusing to obey the law and do her job: issuing marriage licenses to people, including people who are gay.

Davis has become a cause célèbre among bigots who believe two people who love each other should not be allowed to marry if they have matching genitals.

“Pope Francis thanked me for my courage and told me to ‘stay strong,’” said America’s Martyr of her meeting with the Cool Pope.

The Pope met privately with Kim Davis and her husband, Joe, at the Vatican Embassy in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, September 24, which was the birthday of Kim’s father.

Pope Francis spoke with Kim and Joe Davis in English. During the meeting Pope Francis said, “Thank you for your courage.” Pope Francis also told Kim Davis, “Stay strong.” He held out his hands and asked Kim to pray for him. Kim held his hands and said, “I will. Please pray for me,” and the Pope said he would. The two embraced. The Pontiff presented Kim and Joe Davis each with a Rosary that he personally blessed. Kim’s mother and father are Catholic, and Kim and Joe will present the Rosaries to her parents. Kim’s mother was the elected Clerk of Court for Rowan County for 37 years until her retirement in 2014.

Of all people, why me?” Davis continued, “I never thought I would meet the Pope.

This really is more than I can stomach.

The Pope (Catholic) takes time out of his busy schedule while in Washington, D.C. to meet Kim Davis (Pentecostal) at a pre-arranged meeting to thank her and give her his blessing and support for denying same-sex couples marriage licenses (her job and the law) and to tell her to stay strong.

This is more disturbing and disgusting than anything I have heard in a very LONG time.

The Pope gives his blessing to a 4 time married whore who had 2 children out of wedlock while married, just because she hates gay people as much as he does.

That about sums it all up.

When I was raised Pentecostal I was taught that The Pope was a false prophet and The Catholic Church was wrong and evil.

Kimberly Jean Bailey Davis (born September 17, 1965) is the county clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky. In 2015, Davis gained national media attention after defying a federal court order requiring that she issue marriage licenses following the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, starting a same-sex marriage controversy in Kentucky. In the ruling, the US Supreme Court held that the right to marriage is guaranteed to same-sex couples by the Fourteenth Amendment.

After the Supreme Court decision, Davis began refusing to issue any licenses, either to same-sex or opposite-sex couples. Four couples represented by the ACLU filed a lawsuit against Davis (Miller v. Davis).

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky ordered Davis to issue licenses as required by law. Her lawyers filed an emergency application with the Supreme Court seeking to put the lower court’s order on hold while she pursued an appeal, but the application was denied. Davis continued to defy the court order and deny marriage licenses, saying she was acting “under God’s authority“.

Kentucky clerk Kim Davis returned to work Monday morning, September 14, for the first time since being jailed for disobeying a judge’s order for denying marriage licenses to gay couples, saying she wants her name and title removed from the licenses currently being issued by her office.

Choking back tears at a news conference before her return to work, a defiant Davis said she is faced with a “seemingly impossible choice …. my conscience or my freedom,” referring to her opposition to same-sex marriages.

Davis, elected last year as a Democrat, was taken into custody Sept. 3 after she refused to comply with Bunning’s order to resume issuing marriage licenses in Rowan County. She was released from jail five days later, flanked by presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, to a cheering crowd as the Survivor song “Eye of the Tiger” played.

(There’s a lawsuit pending on the unauthorized use of this song).

NOT A HERO

I have followed this Kim Davis story with both fascination and disgust.

It’s a gift that keep on giving.

I thought we lived in a nation bound by laws.

Anyone not following the laws is a criminal.

This woman has broken the law, she’s been in contempt of court and was jailed because of this.

After the Labor Day weekend she was freed by the judge on the condition to not interfere with the clerks in her office who have been handing out marriage licenses to eligible couples.

Fascinating and disgusting to see how presidential candidates flock to her side and exhort and hail her in her quest.

She hasn’t return to her job yet but has reportedly said, through her lawyer, that she remains in her original stance.

PEOPLE, SHE’S NOT A HERO …

Mike Huckabee, Ted Cruz VisitED Kim Davis, The Anti-Gay Marriage Clerk

Tell me which of the two candidates is worse.

They both did this to appeal to their political base and attempt an increasing in their dismal polling numbers. This is a blatant attempt to capitalize for their political gain. This is grandstanding and opportunistic.

“Poor” Kim doesn’t even realize it.

Eager to appeal to their social conservative base, GOP presidential contenders Mike Huckabee and Ted Cruz headed to Kentucky on Tuesday, September 9, to meet with Rowan County clerk Kim Davis.

They may have missed their chance for a dramatic jailhouse visit, since the federal judge who put Davis behind bars for contempt of court last week ordered her immediate release on Tuesday.

But Huckabee appeared at a 3 p.m. rally on her behalf. The former Arkansas governor, who had urged his supporters to sign a “Free Kim Davis” petition, announced his plans to visit Davis last week.

Cruz was a bit slower out of the gate. The Texas senator announced that he would be meeting with the clerk who won’t sign marriage licenses for gay couples only shortly before the judge set her free.

The judge has also ordered Davis not to interfere with her deputy clerks, who began issuing marriage licenses to all couples in her absence.

Huckabee and Cruz, who have often rallied to social conservative causes, ardently oppose same-sex marriage. Both men have stressed the importance of religious liberty in their presidential campaigns.

KENTUCKY COUNTY CLERK … BACK TO COURT

Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis is the personification of religious idiocy. She has become a face for those in this country who honestly believe that their religion trumps our laws; those who think the Bible is more legally binding than our Constitution. She’s someone who thinks her rights are being violated because she’s being ordered not to infringe on the Constitutional rights of others – as per our Supreme Court and our Constitution.

It’s just lunacy. She has absolutely no legal leg on which to stand, yet she’s still trying to fight this in court – even though the highest court in the land already ruled on same-sex marriage months ago. What she’s essentially trying to do is challenge the Supreme Court’s decision back to the very same Supreme Court that made the decision in the first place.

Her job is to issue marriage licenses in accordance with the State of Kentucky which is bound to the Constitution of the United States of America. If she wants to become an anti-gay marriage advocate, she needs to quit her job and go join some hate group filled with knuckle-dragging fools like herself. She has no right (nor does any other business owner or government employee) to deny service to anyone based on religious beliefs.

Using your religion to try to justify denying Americans their Constitutional rights isn’t “religious freedom” – it’s discrimination.

And yes, it’s as simple as that.

CLERK CONTINUES TO REFUSE CIVIL MARRIAGE LICENSES

It was a beautiful day, June 26, 2015, when SCOTUS confirmed marriage equality nationwide.

On that day, it became “the law of the land“.

It was a momentous win which had entailed plenty of work from individuals, organizations, grassroots.

This day confirmed the equality of love.

“LOVE IS LOVE”

These and many other hashtags and phrases where coined that day.

Many memes were circulated online.

Yet, we all knew that this would only be the beginning. Remember the baker, remember the florists, remember the conservative politicians?

WHAT DO YOU CALL SOMEONE WHO REFUSES TO FOLLOW THE LAW?

Religious zealot, stubborn mule, fanatic, hypocrite, criminal

I’m a strong believer that everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, opinions and thoughts. Yet, at the same time, no one should impose any of these on others.

This is the kind of divisive talk that keeps this society so polarized.

This talk and these actions are dangerous.

Rather than living in peace, discord, threats, inequality, discrimination and violence ensues.

This clerk has taken it upon herself to disobey the “law of the land”.

She gone to several courts stating that she only obeys and recognizes “God’s authority”.

Come to find out that she’s been married four times! Where’s the sanctity of marriage here? I don’t judge her four failed marriages.

I’m sure those seeking licenses from her don’t either.

Excuse you me, but if this isn’t plain and simple hypocrisy, what is?

Kentucky Clerk Denies Same-Sex Marriage Licenses, Defying Court

MOREHEAD, KENTUCKY

A county clerk in Kentucky who objects to same-sex marriage on religious grounds denied licenses to gay couples on Tuesday, September 1, 2015, saying she was acting “under God’s authority,” just hours after the Supreme Court refused to support her position.

In a raucous scene in this little town, two same-sex couples walked into the Rowan County Courthouse, trailed by television cameras and chanting protesters on both sides of the issue, only to be turned away by the county clerk, Kim Davis.

As one couple, David Ermold and David Moore, tried to engage her in an argument, Ms. Davis said several times that her office would not issue any marriage licenses.

“Under whose authority?” Mr. Ermold asked.

“Under God’s authority,” she replied.

Ms. Davis, who took office in January, said later in the day in a statement released by her lawyers that she had received death threats, but that she would neither resign nor relent.

“To issue a marriage license which conflicts with God’s definition of marriage, with my name affixed to the certificate, would violate my conscience,” she said. “

It is not a light issue for me. It is a Heaven or Hell decision. For me it is a decision of obedience.

I have no animosity toward anyone and harbor no ill will. To me this has never been a gay or lesbian issue.

It is about marriage and God’s word.”
