DO NOT BE FOOLED

THIS IS VERY CLOSE TO MY HEART

As I write this post, I have to control the seething anger that I feel towards this ‘so-called president’.

This anger and disdain today has been triggered by the ‘actions’ he has taken towards the tragedy that is unfolding in my country, Puerto Rico, after the disastrous effects caused By Hurricane María.

I heard him say last night that they were doing an ‘amazing job‘ in the rescue efforts for the 3,411,000 American citizens who live in Puerto Rico.

Do not believe that.

It’s a total figment of his imagination.

It’s another alternative fact!

I can’t express the situation better then Keith Olbermann does in this video. My emotions are getting in the way of respectful discourse/\.

“Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” is a well-known phrase in the United States Declaration of Independence.

The phrase gives three examples of the “unalienable rights” which the Declaration says have been given to all human beings by their Creator, and which governments are created to protect.

We don’t have to go back to Frederick Douglass’ time or race.

Just look at the current reality in this nation.

African Americans, Muslims, Latinos, Asians and other minorities aren’t totally free and equal.

They aren’t really equal in the eyes of the countrymen.

But some 75 years later, some black Americans weren’t ready to celebrate.

Abolitionist movement leader Frederick Douglass gave a scathing speech the day after Independence Day in 1852, saying:

“This Fourth of July is yours, not mine.

You may rejoice, I must mourn. Do you mean, citizens, to mock me, by asking me to speak to-day?”

Douglass reminded listeners that when the Declaration of Independence was signed, many blacks were still slaves. Even the British were more likely to offer freedom to blacks than the colonists.
Fast forward to 2012 and 2017, where many Black Americans still remember Douglass’ sentiments.

On June 12, 2016, a 29-year-old security guard, killed 49 people and wounded 58 others in a terrorist attack/hate crime inside Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, United States.

Pulse was hosting a “Latin Night” and thus most of the victims were Latinos. It was both the deadliest mass shooting by a single shooter and the deadliest incident of violence against LGBT people in United States history.

It was also the deadliest terrorist attack in the United States since the September 11 attacks in 2001.

A Postmodern Jukebox Tribute to Selena ft. Mayre Martinez

Latin American Idol Mayre Martinez joined us to pay tribute to Selena in the very first Postmodern Jukebox video recorded entirely in Spanish!

Here’s our version of “Como La Flor”.

Mayre has both a phenomenal talent and an amazing work ethic – since winning Latin American Idol, she’s gone on to release 3 albums, toured extensively with her own band, and launch her own singing academy, recognized as the best in her native Venezuela.

When I approached her about being the first Postmodern Jukebox singer to cover a popular Spanish song, she came up with the idea to do a PMJ tribute to Selena, the iconic singer credited with introducing Tejano music to a mainstream audience.

Our version of “Como La Flor” blends the well-known melody with the classic string-driven sounds of 1960’s country and soul for an altogether new sound.

Of course, Mayre’s vocals tell the story of heartbreak like only a world-class vocalist can.

Rachel discussed the fact that 31% of the Arizona population is Latino.

AZ is a deeply red state which has the potential of become blue in 2016.

There’s a local movement intensely trying to register locals in time to be able to vote for the Presidential elections come November 8.

Rachel explained the situation and interviewed Francisco Heredia.

New Spanish-language TV ad in Arizona designed to boost Hispanic voter registration

A first-of-its-kind media campaign launches in Arizona on Wednesday, August 31, in hopes of boosting Hispanic voter registration to historic highs

A new public service announcement co-produced by the state’s largest Spanish-language television and radio stations is set to air roughly 2,500 times through Election Day on Univision and Telemundo television stations and will feature DJ’s and talk show hosts from some of the state’s most popular Spanish-language radio stations, according to organizers.

The campaign is the brainchild of Mi Familia Vota, a nonpartisan voter registration group that is seeking to register roughly 95,000 new Latino voters in six states this year.

While volunteers are rounding up new registrants in California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas, Arizona is seen as the crown jewel of the effort this year.

That’s because no other state has been on the front lines of the years-long immigration policy fights and Hispanic leaders are eager to demonstrate their community’s growing political clout in the state.

No matter how a new voter registers, Mi Familia Vota is hoping to boost the numbers with its new ad campaign, which stars Spanish-language television and radio news anchors and morning talk show hosts. 

The ad begins with anchors asking whether the viewer is 18 or older and registered to vote. It reminds the viewer that voter registration continues in Arizona through Oct. 10.

“We are extremely proud of our Latino media partners,” said Ben Monterroso, executive director of Mi Familia Vota. “They are making history in an already historic election by continuing to help build political power for the Latino community.”

The campaign is backed by Azteca America; the Phoenix and Tucson affiliates of Univision and Telemundo; Univision-owned radio stations Que Buena 105.9 FM, Mas Variedad 106.3 FM and Latino Mix 100.3 FM; Contacto Total, a Phoenix-area radio station; stations owned by Entravision Radio, including La Tricolor 103.5 FM, Jose 106.9 and 107.1 FM & ESPN 710 AM; Mary Rabago Productions LLC; Mujeres Unicas LLC; Onda 1190-AM; Prensa Hispana; Teleritmo; and UniMás Arizona.

Outrageous Things Donald Trump Has Said About Latinos

Donald Trump’s affront against the Latino community reached new heights after Mexican-American journalist Jorge Ramos was forcibly removed from the presidential candidate’s Iowa press conference.

But it wasn’t the first time Trump has offended Latinos.

His anti-Latino remarks have cost him several business partners since the launch of his campaign in June, including NBC Universal, which aired Trump’s reality show “The Apprentice” and co-owns the Miss Universe Organization. Several prominent figures in the Latino community have also spoken out against Trump; actress America Ferrera and singer Ricky Martin published scathing op-eds condemning Trump’s actions and rallying Latinos to unite against him.

Even though only 18 percent of Hispanics take Trump seriously as a presidential candidate, the Republican has vowed that he “will win the Latino vote” if nominated.
