‘The co-founder of Google, Sergey Brin, immigrated to the U.S. when he was a small child, so the Drumpf’s immigration fiasco hit him hard.

Brin was born in Moscow, and his family of Russian Jews fled in the 1970’s.

Brin decided to protest against Trump’s ridiculous immigrant ban by placing Japanese internment camp survivor Fred Korematsu front and center on Google.’

Fred Toyosaburo Korematsu (January 30, 1919 – March 30, 2005) was an American civil rights activist who objected to the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Shortly after the Imperial Japanese Navy launched its attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin D. Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9066, which authorized that individuals of Japanese ancestry living on the West Coast were to be removed from their homes and forced to live in internment camps, but Korematsu instead challenged the orders and became a fugitive.

The legality of the internment order was upheld by the Supreme Court of the United States in Korematsu v. United States; this ruling has never been explicitly overturned. Korematsu’s conviction for evading internment was overturned decades later after the disclosure of new evidence challenging the necessity of the internment, evidence which had been withheld from the courts by the U.S. government during the war.

To commemorate his journey as a civil rights activist, the “Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution” was observed for the first time on January 30, 2011, by the state of California, the first such commemoration for an Asian American in the United States.

In 2015, Virginia passed legislation to make it the second state and first commonwealth to permanently recognize each January 30 as Fred Korematsu Day.

The Fred T. Korematsu Institute was founded in 2009 to carry on Korematsu’s legacy as a civil rights advocate by educating and advocating for civil liberties for all communities.

TATTOOS AND NUMBERS

THE SYSTEM OF IDENTIFYING PRISONERS AT AUSCHWITZ

During the Holocaust, concentration camp prisoners received tattoos only at one location, the Auschwitz concentration camp complex.

The Auschwitz camp complex consisted of Auschwitz I (Main Camp), Auschwitz II (Auschwitz-Birkenau), and Auschwitz III (Monowitz and the subcamps).

Incoming prisoners were assigned a camp serial number which was sewn to their prison uniforms.

Only those prisoners selected for work were issued serial numbers; those prisoners sent directly to the gas chambers were not registered and received no tattoos.

There was a time when I was involved in a somewhat serious disagreement with my better half.

Those are indeed rare.

When they occur, they become a lesson learned.

This was one such lesson.

We are so blessed with what we have and I don’t mean material possessions.

The bottom line is the fact that everything that we need to be happy is right where we are.

There’s no need to go outside of our personal circle and look for happiness.

We have it all in spite of the occasional bump in the road.

THE HOUSE IS IN DISARRAY

The Speaker of the House is the presiding officer of the United States House of Representatives. The office was established in 1789 by Article I, Section 2 of the United States Constitution, which states in part, “The House of Representatives shall choose their Speaker…” The current Speaker is John Boehner, a Republican who represents Ohio’s 8th congressional district. On September 25, 2015, Boehner announced he will step down from his position as Speaker effective October 30, 2015.

The Constitution does not require that the Speaker be an elected House Representative, though every Speaker so far has been an elected Member of Congress.

The Speaker is second in the United States presidential line of succession, after the Vice President and ahead of the President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate.

Words that make me think …. Point of no return!!

“Point of no return”

The point of no return is the point beyond which one must continue on one’s current course of action because turning back is physically impossible, prohibitively expensive or dangerous. A particular irreversible action (e.g., setting off an explosion or signing a contract) can be a point of no return, but the point of no return can also be a calculated point during a continuous action (such as in aviation).

I had a very dear friend once in my life a while back. She always spoke of a story she’d heard before … a life lesson , a lesson learned.

~~Analogy~~

You have a glass figurine, an expensive wine goblet, an ornate mirror. You look at it, you admire it and you value it. It’s one of your most valuable and prized possessions. 

By a stroke of luck or an ill-fated moment, it falls to the ground and it shatters into several pieces. You pick it up lovingly and sadly assess the damage. 

Wait! You can put it back together. Get the best glue and painstakingly put every broken piece in its place, like a puzzle. Slowly but surely the item regains its shape. 

However, it will never be the same. It will never look the same. In spite of the back that it’s in one piece, there will always be the imperfection. The fact it there will always be a mark on the margins where it was mended.

It has lost it’s true value. 

It will never be the same again!

Drama …. MINE!!

I thought I was leading a peaceful, calm and tranquil life. I had my family life and had a social life. Both were equally satisfying and fulfilling.

It looks and feels like a tornado swept across my side of town. 

The sweet, satisfying social life has gone to hell in a handbasket.

You wouldn’t believe the amount of drama that has suddenly appeared in my vicinity.

I always thought that I was a good judge of character. It seems that I’ve made a few mistakes in allowing some into my inner circle.

In all my years of “experience“, I had never met and dealt with some of the specimens that I’ve recently come across. It’s been a lesson learned. I’m learning to refine my detection of those energies that can sweep in, take over and destroy.

I say a lesson learned because this has taught me who the real friends are.

I agree with the above statement. The internet is an awesome technological advance. One of the tools is social media.

Gossip is idle talk or rumor, especially about personal or private affairs of others.

Gossip has been researched in terms of its evolutionary psychology origins. This has found gossip to be an important means by which people can monitor cooperative reputations and so maintain widespread indirect reciprocity. Indirect reciprocity is defined here as “I help you and somebody else helps me.” Gossip has also been identified by Robin Dunbar, an evolutionary biologist, as aiding social bonding in large groups.

With the advent of the internet gossip is now widespread on an instant basis, from one place in the world to another what used to take a long time to filter through is now instant. Very easily this can become a gauge for others to evaluate what is going on in people’s lives.

The term is sometimes used to specifically refer to the spreading of dirt and misinformation, as (for example) through excited discussion of scandals. Some newspapers carry “gossip columns” which detail the social and personal lives of celebrities or of élite members of certain communities.
