“PUERTO RICAN-NESS”
These are very recognizable symbols of the Puerto Rican people.
The ‘pava‘ is the straw hat used by the ‘campesinos‘ while working the sugar cane fields using their ‘machetes‘.
The Puerto Rican flag is the utmost symbol of our Island.
The ‘mono-estrellada‘ … one star only.
The Statue of Liberty is also a very important symbol to the Puerto Rican diaspora.
Many Puerto Ricans moved to New York in search of a better life,
(my parents included in the 1930’s).
All memories etched in my mind, heart and soul!
